The ballot is closed. Emails will apparently arrive before 5pm on Friday.
I think the refresh button on my email account will be worn out by then…
Anyone else? Good luck if so!

Not me, but I feel your excitement MU! I have had the same feeling waiting (in vain) for the London Marathon ballot results several times. Hope you have better luck than me. ☘️ 🤞😀
I’m in!!!!!!!!!! Can’t believe it.
That’s autumn’s event sorted.
YOU ARE NOT!!! Oh wow MissUnderstanding , what amazing news! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I know!!! I was all geared up for being disappointed. Now have to figure the logistics of getting to Newcastle for the weekend given I live in the south west! I watched it on tv years ago and have always has a bit of a hankering to do it. Never, never thought I would be in the position to be in the ballot, let alone actually in the race. Absolutely thrilled. Feel quite emotional about it to be honest!
That's absolutely fabulous news MissUnderstanding , so pleased for you. The Great North Run is perhaps the only mass event I'd ever be tempted to do, for sentimental reasons.
Fantastic!!! Have you stopped jumping around yet? Did your button survive? 😍
I’m in too. Massively unexpected given my past track record with public ballots. This will actually be mid way through training for the Yorkshire Marathon in October. The plan I’ll be following suggests entering a half marathon race at around Week 10 of training, I just didn’t expect it to be such a big one!
Woohoo! Glad you're in! That's amazing!!
Congratulations! I’m in too! I didn’t dare open my emails yesterday. This is my third time, but this is my first time through the ballot. I will still run for Dementia however the pressure is off to get the 400 pound pledge. Hopefully I will manage to get a reasonable amount. Let the training begin. I’m so excited😁Good luck with your training 👏👏👏👏
That’s absolutely brilliant. Great charity too. Looking forward to hearing how you’re getting on! We’ve got loads of time to be ready!
It is a fabulous day. The atmosphere is fantastic. The whole route is lined with thousands of people cheering everyone on. I don’t need to worry about accommodation as I live in County Durham so it’s a short journey in. I will watch for your posts to see how your training is going. Can’t wait to run along the sea front at South Shields. It’s a wonderful sight.
Oh huge congratulations. I'm in too, it'll be my first HM. For all sorts of reasons, wanted to give myself a challenge this year and entered the ballot. Still reeling a bit tbh 😂 so now to get accommodation booked 😳 (that could prove most challenging bit!), read all the fab pinned posts on here again, then get myself a HM plan together to follow. Then let the training commence 😊🥳
Fantastic! What a first HM to do!! Last year I did couch to 5k in January, a local 10k in June and the Bath HM in October. It was very doable. I used the Nike Run Club half marathon plan and I would definitely recommend that. Loads of options out there though!
Wow that's fantastic progress 🙂I've done a couple of 10K events and kind of settled into that distance being my occasional long run. So excited to train for this and feel v lucky for this opportunity.Thank you, I'll have a look at the NRC HM plan. I've had a quick look at some plans online but many seem to need me running 4 or 5 times a week and I usually run every third day. As there's so much time to go, I'd thought about making my own plan, using these as a basis, but working around my run pattern. Possibly a recipe for disaster 🙈 so will have to have a proper look into it 🙂
Good luck with your training 😊
You’ll see five runs on the NRC plan but I usually did three, very occasionally four. Never five! It’s very flexible. I’m six weeks out from a hm in the Forest of Dean with a horrible cold, trusting that I’ve got enough training behind me to get to the end, even if it’s not quite the race I’d like to run!
I’m sure you can come up with/find/adapt a plan, that works for you, especially if you’re already used to running 10k events. There’s definitely no single way to get there.
Thank you, that's really helpful to know.
Oh no, I hope you're feeling much better soon, and I'm sure you'll be just great on the day, even if, as you say, it may not be quite the race you'd planned for. What a lovely place to run 😊
You are very welcome oop north MissU! I am sure that it will be an amazing experience.
