Happy Friday everyone 🥳 If it’s Friday that means one thing. It’s time to get those pompoms fluffed up and ready to rumble for our amazing runners taking on various events this Sunday.
🏅First up is a bit of a legendary run in these parts, The London Winter Run, a majestic 10K around some of the Capital’s iconic landmarks. Complete with live music and, as the description says, a chance to encounter “larger than life winter characters”. Oh…er.. tell us all in your post-run reports guys. The intrepid VRBs taking part are Time_Lord , David_G and Mudita11
Dance and sing with the music, run with joy and keep looking over your shoulder to check which winter character is chasing you 🐻❄️⛄️⛷️🐼
🏅Far away from London now and to warmer climes, we are heading to Spain where our fabulous Alexi_Spain is running the Murcia HM! It’s this event’s 10th anniversary so I’m sure there will be extra sparkle and an amazing atmosphere. It’s Alexi’s first event so let’s wish her loads of luck and I hope that those race shoes give you wings every step of the way Alexi💨💨
🏅Back to the UK again and this time heading to Yorkshire where our awesome RunSkippyRun is running the Dewsbury 10K. Pacers and live music along the way should give you a mighty big smile Skippy. Enjoy it and soak up the atmosphere so you can tell us all about it afterwards 🙂
Good luck, Bon Courage to each and every one of you 🍀💪We’re all right behind you waving our pompoms and shouting out our support! GO….GO…..GO……🏃♂️🏃♀️🏃
Have we missed anyone who has an event this weekend? If so, tell us here.

Fab events to be had this month! Good luck to everybody, particularly David_G slaying those injury demons that have plagued him for months. Go go go everybody, have loads of fun!! (and happy birthday Time_Lord 😉) 🥳🥳🥳🥳
Good luck and pom poms to everyone running this weekend, I hope you are enjoying your holiday in Tenerife cheekychipmunks, are you thinking of doing any short runs there?
Well done CC, when you get home on Monday the weather is to be reasonably good for the time of year, Flossie will be very happy to see you again (I assume Flossie isn't with you in Tenerife)
Oh good, I’m glad to hear the cold weather has departed at last Al. 🙏🏻 No, no Flossie here. We really miss her, but Mr Cheeky is taking good care of her. ❤️
thank you so much everyone!! Looking forward to the event, the organisers are promising one big party!!!! A little nervous… and keep on repeating the mantra… slow and steady… in the hope that I do t race off at the beginning, as my training has gone really well, and those running shoes make me feel AWESOME 😎
Whoops I’m a bit late this week to wish Time_Lord David_G Mudita11 Alexi_Spain RunSkippyRun lots of good luck! Pom poms are getting warmed up for a good old flap! 😁
Good luck to everyone running this weekend! 🏃♀️🏃🏽🙂👏👏👏
I will be particularly looking out for you London Winter runners as I was due to take part before Covid put paid to my plans!! Never mind, I will be there in spirit - hugging polar bears 🐻❄️, hi-5ing the husky’s 🙌 and partying with the penguins 🐧❄️🙂.
Good luck all! Pom poms waving and glad it's not a truly winter feel for the winter run!! Good luck for your first event in a warmer place Alexi_Spain !
Had a great time at my first London Winter Run 10k. I unfortunately had the most stinking cold 🤧🤒 so took things a bit easier than I originally hoped but no doubt what pulled me through was being high-fived by huskies, penguins, polar bears and yetis en route! Weather was sunny and a bit nippy - perfect. I kept running and kept smiling. It was so well organised too. One to do again next year for sure.
Polar Bears from the North Pole and Penguins from the South, Yeti from the Himalayas …a truly international gathering. Sounds like a great day 🙂. You are going to have to build an extension to your trophy room at this rate!
Dewsbury 10k completed 😀.... (thanks to all for the kind wishes).
Cold and crisp in Dewsbury on Sunday morning for a straight out and back along the road to Batley and beyond. The first road race since Munich HM in Oct and running had been difficult the last two weeks so looking to follow 70min pacers and just get something that felt OK for where I'm at currently. The reputation of this race (never done this before) is that it's flat and fast (plus it has an infamous finishers shirt). I haven't done 10k continuously this year and last weekend's longer run was abandoned because of pain, I'm not feeling confident but happy to be here and out and about (especially with many fellow club members here).
Largish field (2,200) but lots of space and well organised so easy to get trotting off. The surface is lovely and smooth, great marshals and local support (some drummers at the side of the road enliven things nicely). . The course is really a journey along the weaving heritage of the West Riding - we go past many repurposed mills (including the mill where I bought most of the fabric for all our curtains years ago - sadly just another shopping village now).
Although it's flattish there is a continuous ascent to the halfway point. At 4k the ascent becomes a little steeper and I'm still cold and worrying about things. So I go all cautious and have a bit of a walk before running up the final slope to the turnaround. A lovely downhill all the way to the finish now! Between 7 and 8k I do a little more run-walk (legs are cold - need better protection against cold on days like this) but then run the final km and a bit into the finsh just ahead of the 70m pacers (1:09:34 with 40m ish ascent). Timings show a difference between the two halves of the race - the back downhill was 2 mins quicker - and it's the best 10k in about two years (but a long way off PB). Had I been braver (and able to) and run continously it would have shaved a minute or two but I did what wanted beforehand so perfectly happy with that 😀.
T shirt got (yes it has plently of innuendo) and chats with fellow club members - many have got PBs today 👏👏😀.
Great report! Well done Skippy, it sounds a great race with lots to look at.
You did what you set off to do, ran 10K (with a pretty decent time) and now have a fab looking shirt for your efforts. It sounds like a great Sunday all round 🤗
