I wanted to do a 10k run over the weekend with(virtually) cheekychipmunks and over61andstilltrying . Ice and snow got in the way. I managed a 5k on Monday, which I enjoyed but I was still mildly niggled by the thought of incomplete business.
Today I decided to invite Coach Bennett on a 10k. It was on the cold side, and raining, but not enough to make me call it off. My plan was to take it easy, forget about monitoring pace and time, and see what happened. I threw in a hill after 1.5k, which meant an 80m elevation gain overall, just to make me work a bit. I hardly looked at my watch. I just ran at a pace which felt really comfortable and one thing CB did do was to get me to concentrate on my breathing early on. I did as I was told, and even slowed down in the penultimate 2k as instructed. It all felt really comfortable and Garmin said my overall pace was 7:02, and that was backed up by NRC. If I had been managing my pace by checking my watch as I went along, 7:00/k would have been my target, so I am feeling pretty pleased with myself for getting that close running by feel. Overall run time 1:10:23…a nice steady 10k as ordered…..followed by flat white of course.🙂
