Motivation moment

Feeling a little warm inside knowing my times this year would have been good enough for gold in the Central American Masters Champs. I needed to see this as sometimes I just doubt myself. This is enough to keep me motivated during these dark winter months.

You should feel very happy with your times on the athletics track Brian. We never know what we are capable of until we try. Who knew that C25K would lead you there

Yes, who would have thought it, Dexy? I do reflect on it at times, but mostly I just look forward to the next challenge. I am happy with my times this year and I know I can do better. Being the person I am, I always look to improve. I am learning so much more about myself since I’m started running which is something we have all done on our journeys. There’s so much to learn and I love it. Patience is something I am working on and I think I’ve got that covered now thankfully 😅 U.K. Indoor champs are early next year so there is a little pressure to sort my niggle out but no rush right now.

Just the one niggle? You're a world class athlete now Brian. You should have loads (but tell the competition you've never been stronger)!

We never doubt you Brian, we know how speedy you are! That could have been you. 💥 Bet that’s a great feeling! 🥳

I was a bit shocked when I first saw it tbh. But it is a great feeling and really quite motivating. 😎👍

We know you’re speedy Brian but it always helps to see what you’re up against if you’re competing against others rather than just yourself (like most of the rest of us on here!). I’ve heard that ‘Comparison is the thief of joy’ but definitely not in your case!

Thank you TC. I can’t quite believe this last year tbh. I love masters athletics and I will always be in your debt for introducing me to it in that post here a while back. I’m going to enjoy it while I have it and see where it takes me, barring further injury. I love the comparisons, it’s what motivates me; as you say definitely no thief of joy for me. 😀

Thanks Sola ☺️ I must admit I am now allowing myself to enjoy these moments while I have them. Who knows what’s coming round the corner. 🤷‍♂️

Wow, that's amazing and it must of felt great to actually see those stats. Look after that niggle, you don't want anything to get in the way.

Hi rfc I was very surprised when I saw them and had a real wow moment to myself. The U.K. and European competition is much stiffer in my age group mind. In fact it’s the single most competitive age group of all. In any previous year I’d be top 5 or 6 but 2022 leaves me in 14th position 😬 I do love a challenge 😂

I’m getting help with my niggle soon. Fingers crossed 🤞

What a great feeling Brian! You can certainly take heart from this to feed your drive over the winter. Just remember us when you are the champion with a gold medal around your neck 😊 👊

Hell yeah 😃💪 Seriously, doubt it’ll be gold but no harm trying 👍 Got another beast of a gym session tomorrow with one of the coaches so I’m fired up for that. New word in my vocabulary last week was hypertrophy. It means “this is gonna hurt in the morning” 😂

good to know indeed! 🤔. Food for though ey 🙂

I was reading about a fast 66 year old marathoner yesterday. 3 hr 19 min marathon 😳. She takes part in the Masters events and was giving them a plug

RunBrianRun profile image
RunBrianRunHalf Marathon in reply tomisswobble

Hey that’s cool 😎 3.19 at any age is remarkable. Good to hear someone plugging the masters events. 👍 I overheard one person calling them school sports days for grannies and grandads the other day. Hilarious but strangely true. 😂

Cool when your grandad happens to be Linford Christie! I saw his name on the results board 😀

Yes, there are a good few of the ex Olympians running. Mike Powell jumped at the world champs last year. 🤩
