Looking forward to cooler times, itβs time to let us know what amazing events some of you might be tackling in September.
Let us know all the details: date, name of event and link to the website if possible. The admin team will make a note in the September events list and on the Friday before your big day weβll give you a massive shout out in the 'pompom' good luck post and have the HU support posse lined up to help you on your way to the blingπ₯³
Any distance, any event, we want all the news (and we'd love a race report afterwards too)!
I'll kick things off with my postponed Flat 100 South (that's km not miles) (and on a bike, not a run!)
Hello Linda, UpTheStanley and I have signed up for the 10k race at the New Forest Marathon on 11th September, which is a truly beautiful event. There will be bands playing and food and drink stalls afterwards so a bit of a festival atmosphere. After 2 yearβs absence we are so looking forward to it.
Oooh fabulous. The girl I ran my marathon with is heading there to do the marathon- it really does sound lovely π I'll add you both to the list π
Hiya Linda! Itβs our annual local Stratford Big 10k on Sunday 4th September. Myself, Katnap and youngest kitten will be taking part, and I know weβre not the only ones but I will leave it to them to tell you π
Hi Linda, I have 2 races on consecutive weekends. π
Firstly the Cheddar Gorge Downhill 10k road race on 17th September. Absolutely canβt wait for this. Weβre bussed most of the way to the top, then weeeeeeeeeee!!! π
Then the following weekend on 25th September, Iβm running in the Bristol 10k. Did the HM last year but didnβt enjoy the second half of the course much. So good old 10k again it is. π
Looking forward to this one. Dunes running is a bit weird but hopefully not too far on the sands. At least thereβll be sea views. Weβre making a weekend of it π€. The hotel is on the seafront near the start/finish which is handy π
Hello linda9389 I am doing the Cheddar downhill 10k on the 17th too same details as cheekychipmunks and maybe will actually see her whizzing by!!! π I booked it because it looked fun!
π€£ Well I'm hoping our legs will just take off down that hill ....could be a mess at the bottom - how will we stop ?π± Also was tempted in to booking by the claim there was a very good fish and chip shop at the bottom!! Hope I stop by there!
Youβll be fine Tabbles . Iβm not a natural HM runner and I need as flat a course as possible for longer distances. There was a nasty unexpected hill right near the end last year which was very unwelcome - and fairly surprising after the βfast and flatβ description, plus we went further out on the Portway than Iβd been expecting (sapping incline) before that.
I was listening to tunes yesters, trying to find some up tempo ones. I like a bit of variety on long runs. From iTunes I chose a Django Reinhardt/Stephane Grapelli track βLimehouse Bluesβ. My little legs will be going like the clappers ππββοΈπββοΈπββοΈ
Charles Trenet βBoumβ is fun too and is great to trot along to on the trail π΅πΆ
Ha ha thank you! Although I read a blog from a lady who did it in 2019 and she said it was the most unorganised event sheβd ever done so Iβm starting to wonder what have I got myself into!
Canβt beat some upbeat tunes! Iβll search those out π.
Hi Linda, I'm doing the GNR. First HM for me so somewhat anxious. Fingers crossed for Goldilocks weather (not too hot, not too cold) but as long as it's not silly hot it will be OK I think. Just need to get a few longer training runs in now ...
Being anxious is pretty normal. You can do this. Once you cross the start line that anxiety will be channelled into your run and all your nerves will drop away as you soak up the atmosphere and go get the bling!!!
Iβm keeping it short and sweet this September at the Southern Athletics League match in Perivale on 10th September. Not sure yet if Iβll do the 100, 200 or both.
I think this is the last race of the season for me.
Hi Linda, I have registered..oh correction, my sister has registered me ( and off course herself) for the North Shore Marathon in Auckland. We are doing the Quarter Marathon (10.5k). This time it is for the event t-shirt π€ She will use any excuse to run in an event! I didnot think I was up to running another HM after the last one at the beginning of this month, so she registered us for the Quarter.
Hi Linda Iβve entered myself into the Portsmouth Open Athletics Meeting on the 4th September. Itβs at the Mountbatten Centre. Iβve entered the vets 100m and 200m events.
Not an event per se, but at some point in September (probably Saturday 10) I will hit Parkrun #50. I let everyone know when that happens.
Assuming I do hit 50 on that date, eight days later, Sunday 18, I have the Scottish Half Marathon ( scottishhalfmarathon.com/half ). Last year, in my first post-lockdown event, I went under 2 hours for the first time in 1:59:06. I went a second faster in the Edinburgh HM back in May, so hoping to see if I can improve yet again.
Hi Linda, out on the bike next weekend, 100km Bardβs Ride for me on the 10th Sept. Organised by Warwickshirechurches.org.uk a beautiful, if undulating route around Warwickshire, Gloucestershire and a corner of Worcestershire.
I've had a bit of an on and off spring/summer for running; COVID and post COVID took it out of me, then I had a bit of foot pain so had to take a bit of time off. But I used that time for swimming, cycling and strength. I finally got the OK to start adding in runs again but to build up distance slowly so decided to keep the cross-training in my plan.
So when a friend encouraged me to join her in a triathlon I somewhat rashly said yes. This is rather a surprise to the me of 4 months ago who swam like a brick and swore she always would. And doubly a surprise to the me of 3 years ago who swam like a brick and also swore she couldn't run. But having found the latter to be untrue made me wonder if I was wrong about the swimming too. A few masterclasses and a fair bit of practice later and I'm finding 16 lengths a reasonably comfortable distance. All I need to manage now is this strange new sport called transition!
So my event is 25th September - Fast Twitch Sprint Triathlon in the New Forest.
That's just fantastic!!! I definitely hate swimming and couldn't imagine turning that around, so am very much in awe of you. I will add you to the list. Good luck.
