Kudos to Garmin ๐Ÿ‘

When I unpacked my case on Tuesday I was taken aback to see that the strap on my Garmin watch had broken off! WHAAAT!! It was perfectly fine that morning when I packed it safely away.

I had a run to do so I sewed the bits together as a temporary measure (I mean โ€ฆ shock โ€ฆ.horrorโ€ฆ. I couldnโ€™t run without the Garmin ๐Ÿ˜ฑ ) and it held OK but obviously I needed a new strap.

When I got home I had a look online and yesterday lunch-time I ordered a replacement strap.

Just over 24 hours later my new strap arrived and hey presto, I have a new strap all ready for my next run. Howโ€™s that for service?

My original strap has lasted about nine years so I think thatโ€™s pretty good going considering all the rain, sun, sweat, mud, sunscreen, insect repellent etc etc thrown at it. If only it could talkโ€ฆ..๐Ÿ™‚

Quick work IP. I have had to replace straps for my 35 a couple of times over the past 4 years; I got everything I needed from Amazonโ€ฆ.I didnโ€™t think about checking with Garmin! I sometimes look at my 35 and think about upgrading, but I am short of a good reason for doing it! I did think about something with better navigation aids built in, but most of the last 12 months has been about injury recovery! Mrs BC brought me down to earth with a bump the other day; she said that she thought the running shorts I was wearing were a bit too short (โ€œfor my ageโ€ implied). Have I become a 70 year old fashion victim?๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ˜‚

If you have great legs then show them off BC!

When I see past sporting clips Iโ€™m always amused to see how short the shorts were ๐Ÿ˜ณ but I wear very short shorts too as I find them more comfortable and less restrictive than the longer ones.

Flaunt those legs for all theyโ€™re worth ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ˜Ž

It gives me all of the data I need and is simple to use; ideal for an old codger like me!

That's pretty good! The keeper loop which stops the strap from flopping around on my wrist snapped on my Forerunner 235 a year after I bought it. I ordered a replacement strap via Amazon, and it too arrived the next day.

Although, I never got around to using it, and it remains unopened in a drawer ... ๐Ÿ˜‚

Irishprincess profile image
IrishprincessAdministratorHalf Marathon in reply to ForbiddenPlanet

Did you buy a new watch instead or just lived without the loop?

ForbiddenPlanet profile image
ForbiddenPlanetHalf Marathon in reply to Irishprincess

Erm ... both! ๐Ÿ™‚

I carried on running with the strap as it was for another 10 months, and then bought a Forerunner 245 Music so I could run without a phone and still have tunes.

Excellent service Garmin! It must have been old brittle plastic on the old one I suppose. Maybe the pressure of the aircraft did it in once and for all? RIP old strap!

I have a teal strap. Somehow itโ€™s become my colour on lots of things, purely by coincidence, and Iโ€™ve grown to love it. I gave my daughter my Forerunner 235 (with teal strap) and she promptly bought a black one! I took over my husbandโ€™s never used Vivoactive 3 with black strap, and promptly changed it for a teal one. Of course the 2 watches didnโ€™t have interchangeable straps did they? ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„

Irishprincess profile image
IrishprincessAdministratorHalf Marathon in reply to cheekychipmunks

And on some older models you canโ€™t change the straps. A friend had to get rid of her perfectly functioning Garmin just because the strap had broken and she couldnโ€™t replace it โ˜น๏ธ

The later models with music can talk, if paired with headphones.

I once drove to a run spot and as soon as I arrived realised that my Garmin had been left behind in the kitchen ๐Ÿ™€ I did think for a few seconds that I should drive back to get it but then told myself not to be silly ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ˜‚

But I did panic for a mo ๐Ÿซฃ

Thatโ€™sa quick turnaround. Kudos to Garmin.

I broke the strap retainer on mine and bought a few from Amazon. Itโ€™s held together really well and my 235 has been on my wrist practically 24/7 for the past 5 years.

I donโ€™t need it other than for recording my training sessions and races as it doesnโ€™t provide any reliable or useful data other than top speed, as itโ€™s just not designed for short distance sprinting but itโ€™s a companion and Iโ€™ll hang on to it until it breaks and then look at going something else.

Oooh very nice! And rapido on the old delivery front too. My old Fitbitโ€™s strap went and although I tried to replace it, the watch was on the way out at that point too, which is when I switched to Garmin. Youโ€™re right about everything we throw at them, I donโ€™t even want to think about what kind of Petri dish nasties are lurking in all the cracks! Happy new strap running IP ๐Ÿ˜.
