It's been a while since I last posted, my running mojo has drifted off into gardening grass cutting mojo instead. Thought that I would heads up on a failure of my Garmin 45, which fell apart today whilst digging in the Garden. No hard knocks it just fell off as I was digging a trench-like you do. My old and broken 235 has way stronger looking lugs holding its strap on so guess that to keep the price point low on the 45 sacrifices were made. I'm out of warranty the watch was bought in March of last year, typical.

GArmin 45 failure
tricky to get this pic any clearer
Can you not buy a replacement strap? I have several colours for my watch 🤣 There cheap on eBay.
That’s really bad Otherminds. They’re supposed to be pretty robust.
I also grass cut a fair amount. Enough to record it as a walk on my Garmin - it’s around 3.75km when using my little petrol mower. My ride on is waiting to be repaired but I made the mistake of saying “no hurry”! I ran over a rock and the blade fell off! 🤦♀️ 😅
Yep, it sucks but Looking at the Garmin Instinct Solar as a replacement maybe? I have a mini tractor for mowing my orchard and paddocks, it's an all-day kinda thing, wish my bank balance grew at the same speed as the grass 🤣 Have written to Garmin BTW but TBH I'm not holding my breath on that one.
Sadly it's not just price point. A whole chunk of my 645m came away similarly to yours, hoovering, no knocks or anything, just fell off. I had a ticket in for another issue so I was able to get a replacement.
You could try customer service but my experiences with them hasn't been great (and I'm not a person who usually has issues with CS depts!) Sadly I'm addicted to mine and garmin is easy now otherwise I'd try Polar.
JoJo it's a pain but I need my data. I have ordered a Garmin Instinct Solar GPS Watch
It's built to USA military standards whatever that means so it should stand up to a bit of gardening but I will not risk any hoovering far too extreme sports for me. It may encourage me to run more in the sunshine though anything for a free charge 😀 We shall see what CS has to say. The collection of dead and outdated Garmin devices grows.
Here's an update. If your Garmin falls apart through no fault of your own and is under 2 years old, it seems Garmin will replace like for like if having proved purchase etc. you post the old one back to them first at your expense. The UK is the home to Garmins European business so if you are living there it does make it a bit easier on the whole exchange faf, unlike those of us that live in the Eurozone. Anyways it looks like I will have a brand new Garmin 45 for sale🤣having upgraded in the meantime.
I did not know that Nowster. Good job to in my case. 👍🏻
