Hello groovy runners!Β How are you all doing? Itβs recently occurred to me that I have just over 7 weeks to work back up to 50k on trail again. I currently sit at 25k and that felt like a slog in the heat today. :). I wonder where the time went but I know exactly where it disappeared to. Life has been busy with aging parents and some recent issues with them. Work has also been steadily getting more busy and life with two teens can be challenging at times to put it mildly. So running has had to take a backseat on occasion. Thatβs just life. But I have a plan and am more or less on it for the long runs at least.
How has this last week been for you? How are your running plans going? And how are you managing in the intense heat?
If you have a race coming up in the coming weeks, we have an Events Post up, so go there and tell us what you're up to! :healthunlocked.com/marathon...
Hi Decker and everyone. Those are wonderful photos, I love the contrast between b&w and colour π
You do have a lot going on at the minute but hopefully the running is giving you some precious me-time and a chance to reset. Iβm sure youβll be able to work up to the 50K again in the seven weeks π€
I, on the other hand, have called time on my HM in August. Iβve just reached 5K again but think itβs just too much risk to push things based on the fact I havenβt run more than 7K since March because of the back injury and Covid. Iβll just focus on building up gradually and as long as I get to 10 miles by October Iβll be in OK shape for Bath in mid-October.
I hate the heat so Iβm not running these two days and just hibernating inside instead. Itβs just reached 32 degrees here and heading for 36 by 3pm. Even the birds have stopped chirping βΉοΈ Itβs quite spooky actually.
Good luck with your plan Decker and have a good week everyone x
A wise decision on both fronts IP. Iβm sure it will help you be fully healthy for Bath in Oct. Plenty of time to garden till then. Hope the heat eases up too. We were up to 31 yesterday and that was enough.
The birds are quiet but we had a pigeon and a blackbird sunbathing on the lawn yesterday. They were probably taking advantage of Mollyβs decision to rest in the cool of the kitchen.
Fabulous Flossie! Jedi's never seen the sea and isn't keen on swimming. He'll happily drink from lakes and rivers, and paddle a bit, but panics at waves. And dragonflies. π
Good call on concentrating solely on Bath IP. Sounds like it was written in the βοΈ βοΈ for it to be that way. Iβm somewhat miffed that I had a paddy and got my entry refunded, but I couldnβt have done it anyway as itβs the same weekend as the GSR. Next year maybe? But hasnβt the course changed or something? Youβll have to report back!
Stay cool. Our weather broke here somewhat last night with with an (apparently) epic storm in the early hours - which I slept through. π Boooo, I love thunderstorms! So itβs cooler here today (SW Brittany). Itβs still warm though, not scorching like yesterday was π₯΅ Hopefully similar for you tomorrow. π€
They have changed the route Munks and apparently thereβs a hill at the end but to be honest I havenβt really looked at the detail yet. Iβve got to the stage where Iβm like βoh, that Bath HMβ¦.? whateverβ¦..πβ
I think theyβre still going ahead with the March date so perhaps we could meet up there? It WILL happen again π
I wish it would thunderstorm here. 33 degrees atm π₯΅ But itβs cooling down later apparently so Iβm getting up extra early tomorrow to go for a trot πββοΈ
Ahh yes I think I heard rumours itβs ending on Marlborough Lane. Itβs on the way to my school and yes thereβs definitely a hill. Iβm sure youβll cope admirably. Iβd just slow to slower than slow! π But Iβd do it for another meetup with you! π
Iβm doing a thunderstorm dance for you! β‘οΈ π πΊβ‘οΈ
Same here IP! Walking to work this morning is the hottest Iβve ever been in this country. Running has literally gone out of the window, I hid inside yesterday. I hope you start building back up soon. πππ
Summer heat feels a million miles away for us but will be back soon enough.
Covid really did knock me & long runs also feel a million miles away.
I hit 3500km on my run today since graduating C25k so Iβm building π
Weβre back from our holiday & kids go back to school so Iβm shooting for a 40k week. Keen to get back to HM territory soon. Think Iβm over Covid at last!
Itβs my 48th birthday this week & hubby asked me what I wanted to do & Iβve asked to go to a trail shop π€£
So happy you have finally fully kicked the Covid to the door RW! Congrats on your distance milestone too. And of course Happy Birthday! πππ. The trail shop is perfect!
I feel for you with the aging parents and the teenagers. Weβre just about to enter that stage. Life is certainly messy at times. Thankful for the gift of running! Iβm in awe of you getting ready for a 50k. An ultra runner I follow on Strava did 30k this morning before I had even had a coffee & laced those shoes π
Very thankful too. Not sure how I would have managed this last year without running. Ha! I can only do those distances on weekends. Weekdays are almost always 10s. I am in awe of those 100 miler folks. Canβt even process the training needed for those.
Those kilometres have at times been at a very low intensity. Can you remember when I tried to keep to my MAF number for 6 months ππππππ
Such beautiful photos once again, thank you. You'll be fine for your trail event - seven weeks will do the trick, especially with all your experience.
I've finally started running again after my end of June faceplant. Very slow 3k jog on Friday, and a fractionally less slow 5k this morning. Overslept, went out stupidly late, so it was 31Β° when I got back. Being preoccupied with my wonky leg and going back to run the path where I fell proved really good distractions from the heat!
As I've also taken advantage of the sales to treat myself to a pair of trail capris, a vest and Brooks Cascadia 16s (to replace my current ones, which are up to about 650k) I guess I'm going to have to keep on running.
To all of you, whatever your plans are, stay safe, and run happy!
Great to see you back running after the fall Cmoi, but I do feel for you running in that heat. I just got home from an evening run seating buckets and it was only 26Β°.
Seeing Le Tour in person must have been quite exciting! And of course you will always get full support here with new gear purchases. You may have to post a pic of the new finds now! ππ
π₯°π₯°π₯°. I loved my cascadiaβs. I wore them to death π. May you have many happy years together ππββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπββοΈ
They're my third pair of Cascadias misswobble . Got over 1000k out of my first pair, 15s, and my current 16s are at just over 600k. 30% off in the sales was too good to resist!
Hang on Deckerβ¦I am an ageing parent πππππ. I know what you mean though; covid lockdown was so difficult for my then 95 year old mum. Hope you find enough β meβ time. π
Ha well BC, my Mum is 90 and my Dad is 94. Mumβs had a fall resulting in two fractures and is in hospital for a month now and to be transferred to a rehab hospital tomorrow. Wish us luck!
Lovely photos Deckerπ₯° life really is a roller coaster sometimes but the running keeps us sane(ish!) And I'm sure you'll get your training done just fine .My elderly doggo has had non stop health problems this last 6 months or so, just undergone a biopsy a week ago and slow to recover. So most of my time has been taken up with him, no runs all last week, contemplating trot down to beach tonight and a swim in this heat.
Hope you all have a good week and stay cool if you can xxx
Oh darling George aliboo70 . β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ Hope heβs ok. Ours is on holiday with us and weβve been dunking her in any body of water we come across. π₯΅πβ€οΈ
He'd love to be in the sea, hoping I get him down there at some point, he's had bad feet and cone on 2 months now so they decided only option to do biopsy but he's 12 and with liver probs so not recovered that well yet πͺ xxx Enjoy your hols, pat for your doggo xxx
Oh come on Georgie Boy, letβs be βavin you π. This heat wonβt encourage him to be up and at βem just yet but hopefully the weather will break soon and make life more bearable for him. Give him a hug from me π. When our pets are off colour itβs hard to bear. Fingers crossed heβll perk up soon π€
We're on hols in Brittany and I thought I'd be smart and bring my special real camera. We went for a walk and I tried to take a photo, only to find it didn't have an SD card in, so it wouldnβt take one. π Back to the trusty iPhone it was! π
You'll get there on your trails. It's hard in the heat but you're a pro! I've done 2 runs here so far; 6.5k and 10k, and it's so warm π₯΅ We keep on don't we, us runners ? πͺ
Oh, and good luck with those teens of yours too. π³ Mine are no longer in that age category, and I can't say I'm sorry! π
Ha Cheeky Iβve made the same mistake! I canβt recall the last time I used my old SLR camera. Itβs been iphone for all. They do take a good pic don't they?
Have a lovely holiday and I hope you get a few coolish runs in if the weather eases at all. We are even getting reports here on your heat wave. π₯΅
I'm in awe of your long runs Decker, especially with everything else you have going on in your life! So far I've been sticking to my plan and doing plenty of cycling too, it's been going well. Sadly we said goodbye to our lovely dog of almost fourteen years yesterday and it's proving much tougher than I imagined. I think tomorrow's run could get pretty messy π
Oh no π§. Iβm so sorry to hear that you lost your pal. RIP Molly π. Itβs such a blow isnβt it. I lost my little pug a few weeks ago. He was 15 and had the best life π₯².
Itβs awful and only time can heal the great gaping hole thatβs left in our lives when they leave us. When I lost my 17 year old JR I got really down over it π
The old dog I walk now is getting doddery and hating the heat. Iβve got him tomorrow so nothing will get done π
Aww misswobble , Iβm sorry about the loss of your sweet pug. π I canβt even imagine the day β¦β¦. Theyβre our best friends and important members of the family arenβt they? β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ
We know that we have so say goodbye to them but itβs so hard.
Iβve got his pal back with me again π today after having him for over a week. I canβt get my runs in as I canβt leave him.He pees for England π. Iβve got a race tomorrow and getting frustrated at the lack of practice. Hey ho π
So sorry for your loss, Linda, Molly was a beautiful soul and part of your family. You will miss her terribly, I know. Just remember what a super life she enjoyed with you all.
So sorry to read of your loss Linda. Pets own a special place in the heart. Never thought that true until I got my first cat. Flipping devastated when Monster passed away. Great memories though - would do it all over again even knowing the inevitable loss, and that helps fill the otherwise empty place.
Hello Decker . You sound as though youβve had a fair bit on your plate so well done for that 25k even though it was a bit of a slog! This end not too much to report really, I donβt do well in the heat so have had a little break these last few days. Hoping to get out early tomorrow to start building back up again - I have a feeling a sloth doing an impression of a runner may well be how it goes tomorrow! Bought a new running belt which should be arriving today as I have come to the conclusion a vest is too cumbersome when itβs warm so quite excited to see what thatβs going to be like. All the best! πππ
Sounds like you have a lot on your plate at the moment. Getting out to run will be your time and will keep you sane π. Runs bring much-needed clarity to lifeβs conundrums. If you can run in beautiful locations then all the better π
Iβve got a tricky hill race this week but Iβve only run twice lately. Iβve been sitting an old dog. Heβs back tomorrow too. I really wanted to do some hill training but Iβve been thwarted. I shall run my race, do my best and hopefully enjoy it πββοΈπ
have a good week everyone πββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπββοΈπββοΈ
I so agree MW. The loss of my mum, my husbandβs assault β¦. without running I have no idea how Iβd have coped. I wish Iβd taken it up earlier in life to deal with other roadblocks too.
Enjoy the old doggie. π And enjoy your hill race too. Iβm sure youβll smash it! πββοΈ πͺ
Heβs back with me today. All day,so nothing doing again running wise. I might go out this evening when heβs gone home. We were out early for a little stroll and nowβs heβs by the fan π
I donβt like being under-prepared for a race. Itβs only 10k but itβs hard πͺπ€. Uphill from the off π. Itβs not been run for a while so hopefully itβll be as good as before with lots of locals lining the route and fab cake at the end. My husband is giving up his football to take me π
At least you know what youβre in for. I donβt like being under prepared either. If anything I over prepare and cause other problems. I think with all your experience a 10 should be ok, even with the hills. Maybe not a PR race, but still good fun
