I want that wacky bird!

Running in Kew sounds wonderful, I forgot to look out for this one after you’d posted about it last year.

Good luck to everyone running this Saturday and Sunday. Pom poms are shaking.

I did run in our village local hilly race during carnival week (the year before my fall) and really enjoyed it, also two parkruns, but the idea of travelling currently doesn't seem to appeal.

linda9389 profile image
linda9389AdministratorMarathon in reply to over61andstilltrying

Travelling does make for tricky logistics! I think I'll need to be up at 5.30am (having been sliding the alarm earlier every day this week to get in practice 🙈)

Oh go on! They’re such a blast! I train properly but then just go out on the day and enjoy whatever occurs. Could be good, could be meh but it’s all good unless there’s no cake ☺️

You could organise a race just for you, or do a virtual one 😀

As I said to Linda, I did run in our village local hilly race during carnival week (the year before my fall) and really enjoyed it, also two parkruns , but the idea of travelling currently doesn't seem to appeal. Having said that, I have been building up my running since my fall (multiple knee injuries) and am planning a 5k time trial.

Must be wavering a little! I think moving out of your comfort zone now and again is good. I think you also live in hilly Derbyshire as I do. Would you be able to recommend a race 10km or HM that is beautifully scenic, suitable to a first timer and not too far away?

misswobble profile image
misswobbleMarathon in reply to over61andstilltrying

Yeah I do. There’s loads a small races. If you’re up in the hillier bits there are more of them. A lovely one, but hard 10k, is the scouts Holymoorside 10k in May. When I’ve run it the weather has been glorious. The recent Monsal Tunnels one is a gorgeous route and a small field, quiet, and interesting scenery. Tunnels too 👀Hardwick 10k in July is run on a Thursday evening from Pilsley, nr chesterfield. The village turns out for this one. It’s always been roasting when I’ve done it 🥵. Runs up to Hardwick hall then back down to the starting point.

If you look on RunABC website, you should find some on there.

Thank you misswobble, I have taken a look and am not sure at the moment. I seem to like the sight seeing aspect of running, but not at all sure people and races are for me. One day perhaps. I plan to run the Duffield 5 again if I am fit. What a long list of runs on Run ABC!I have been enjoying the NRC guided runs, particularly the speed runs, but yesterday's clearly aggravated my Achilles tendon and I have woken up barely able to walk! Oh dear!

misswobble profile image
misswobbleMarathon in reply to over61andstilltrying

Eek! It was the NRC fast intervals that crocked me 😬 I was going great guns til I wasn’t 😫.

Keep moving, albeit gingerly, or you’ll sieze up Hopefully you’ll feel better tomorrow 🤞

Races aren't my thing either over61andstilltrying . Too many people, too much noise, too much pressure to perform. I'm very happy for those who enjoy them though!

misswobble profile image
misswobbleMarathon in reply to Cmoi

I only really do small, local events as near to home as poss. Small is beautiful 😍. They’re quieter too as they don’t have blaring music or announcements etc. cuppa tea and cake after on some village green. That’ll do 😀.

My now annual marathon is so small as to be invisible, and with so few competitors we’re well strung out, if we wish to be so 🙂

I’ve done one city event but only cos it was paid for not by me 😁

over61andstilltrying profile image
over61andstilltryingHalf Marathon in reply to Cmoi

Lovely views, exploring new routes and no people seem to be my thing! Together with thinking of running as an investment in my health, although my Achilles Tendon clearly didn't appreciate the Nike Running Club interval run from yesterday and I am struggling to walk today. Not quite the improvement in health that I have in mind. I seem to also enjoy the variety that these speed runs give. This is the first time that my Achilles has responded in this way. 😔Happy running to you. 🏃🏻‍♀️😊

Try to keep the achilles gently moving, without aggravating it of course. Hopefully it will ease as quickly as it appeared

Very Happy Running everyone... Hope it's a great day whether it's PB's your after or just the fun of the race 😁🏃🏃‍♂️!!

Kew sounds a lovely place to run... enjoy.

I'd entered the 10k I'm doing ages ago before doing my HM last weekend. Body is not feeling quite so keen on the idea now😉 so will just have a nice steady one & enjoy the occasion😊

linda9389 profile image

Sounds like a perfect run strategy! (I'll be in the same position next week!). Kew is a great venue to run - and you get free entry to the gardens all day for you and up to 2 adult guests and 2 children! There's a 10k in September too 😊

Well, that's me finally done an event that I signed up for back at the tail end of 2019. Made it to the finish in 1:12:34, which, given that I've been doing my non-race 13k practice runs at about 1 hour 30, I'm absolutely delighted with.
