6k Early Run ๐Ÿ”ฆ๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿฅต

I cannot deny how hard it was to get out of my pit this morning! The gremlins were doing their early special - go at lunch, go tomorrow, you know how it is ๐Ÿ˜Š. But I managed to shake them off, the trick I used was to not look out the window to see what the weather was doing as I knew that would really put me off.

Head torch strapped on and some banging tunes and off I went. It was light drizzle and really quite muggy so was glad I had short sleeves. I had to turn back half way along the country lane I like as there was a flood in a dip which threw me a bit, but I cobbled another route together.

Todayโ€™s run was about proving that I can get up early when itโ€™s dark and wet, and doing a nice little midweek distance. Iโ€™m wanting to get back to 10 miles in the nearish future, and every km helps! I may even enter the GSR later today for next year ๐Ÿ˜. Have a smashing day all! ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š

Wow, I'm impressed !I'm actually reading this still in bed ๐Ÿ˜‚

05:50 !!!

Congratulations on beating those Gremlins !

You must have a good headtorch !

You say it was about proving you can get up early when it's dark and wet , well, well done , you've definitely proved it .

A great early 6K ๐Ÿ‘

Ah thank you Ian! I just know what Iโ€™m like - I could run at lunchtime from work, but Iโ€™d have to take so much clobber with me and it always feels like such a rush. Iโ€™ve tried a dozen times to do it after work, but as soon as my backside hits the sofa it doesnโ€™t get back up ๐Ÿคฃ. Youโ€™re still welcome to join ๐Ÿคช๐Ÿ˜! Have a good one, hope Mistyโ€™s well ๐Ÿˆ.

Thanks IP, it felt really good ๐Ÿ˜Š. If I can just do the same on Friday morning it will be brill!

At 5:50 I was pouring milk in a bowl to eat my breakfast...

Well done and oh I am jealous! GSR sounds like such an amazing run and you can go to it! I have looked with envy at those medals from past weekend! I myself am wondering whether I would enroll in next years race at the coast end of July. It's in the evening and you can chose between 6K, 10K and 10 miles. It's a wonderful race, the first half is on the beach (VERY heavy) and then through forests. I'm only a bit scared that I won't make the cut-off time and get disqualified, being the slow poke that I am.

Yes do it Evy! Iโ€™ve never entered anything and itโ€™s about time. The beach sounds great - is it on hard sand?

in reply to Frenc

I actually did the 6K race 6 years ago when I ran (I only ran for a few months before I stopped again). You start just off the beach and run down loose sand to the slightly harder sand. Of course everybody started too fast, caught in the atmosphere so many people had to walk on the beach. It was hard going though, not soft sand but not hard either. Then it was up a dune in soft sand where everybody more crawled than ran. Crossing the main traffic road you enter the forest and run on concrete paths. The shade of the trees was lovely. It was 7 pm but still warm (end July). There was a water station in the middle of the run, justwhen entering the forest.

It was a really lovely race and I would love to enter it again. But I run slower now and really don't know if I would be able to finish before the end-time. But if they still organize the race, it is end July. So time enough to think about.

Iโ€™m impressed too, rain almost stopped play for me when i climbed out of bed to find the niggle on the side of my ankle has a bit of swelling so thatโ€™s my excuse, might walk and see what happens, wish i could run as fast as you, takes me an hour to run 6k

Thank you ๐Ÿ˜Š. I was pleased with the pace I have to say! Sorry to hear about your ankle, I hope itโ€™s starting to feel a bit better. Ah wouldnโ€™t it be great to be bionic, I used to love that and the 6 Million Dollar Man. I digress, look after that ankle ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ‘.

Ankle is not too bad thanks, yes I loved the six billion dollar man too, back to work tomorrow, all i seem to have done is sit and eat, and run a bit too

Sitting, eating, and a bit of running sounds pretty ok ๐Ÿ˜Š.

Itโ€™s been good to be off, my boss is quite unwell with Covid so itโ€™ll be long days going back but I miss the place when iโ€™m not there

Ah works a funny old thing, life can be fairly two dimensional without it. And it makes the breaks all the more worth it! Hope your boss recovers and that your days arenโ€™t too, too long. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Well done on getting out so early Frenc and getting that 6K done, great pace from you ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Thanks Sparky, it felt good! I did 10k on Sunday - it felt like 10 miles! Thatโ€™s what lounging on a beach will do - and the tanโ€™s starting to go as well ๐Ÿ˜ช. Iโ€™m looking forward to Fridayโ€™s run - cold and dry, perfect ๐Ÿคฉ.

That sounds like a very good effort....strong self talk too. We'll done. Do you wear reflective clothing?

Frenc profile image
FrencHalf Marathon in reply to Mormor1

Ah yes I really did have to give myself a finger wag! I wore a head torch, a bright white tee, a reflective not quite a vest thing, and bottom half of my leggings are hi viz yellow. So although not completely reflective, a lot of me was. I have this hi viz gilet from work, but itโ€™s huge, so I donโ€™t really like it. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š

Mormor1 profile image
Mormor1Half Marathon in reply to Frenc

I've ordered some reflective tape which I will sew or stick on my jacket back and front! I usually take it off after 10" and have hiviz t, but those first 10" feel dicey.. Maybe ankle bands on velcro too!!!

Frenc profile image

That sounds like a good idea Mormor1 ๐Ÿ˜. The velcro and hi viz will get you seen!

Do you wear your head torch with head phones?

Frenc profile image

I do - they sit just inside and over my ear so plenty of room for other head accoutrements!

Well done frenc. Youโ€™re as early as me going out, out at 6.15 am just doing over a 3.22 km run. I do t have the head torches but have the pink jacket with reflector on sleeves and stick to local streets with lights. Got torch with me in case . I know how you feel about the gremlins pulling you back to bed but once youโ€™ve got one foot over the bed youโ€™re away. Keep safe in early mornings .

Thank you Doris! Bright is right I think ๐Ÿ˜, you keep safe too. I love running in the dark, itโ€™s like being in a little cocoon.
