HM Training back on track. 16k done, bring on 18k

Hi everyone

I posted a couple of weeks ago about, what I called at the time, my epic fail to run 14k along unfamiliar terrain on a very hot day. I was feeling very sorry for myself and panicking about messing up my training plan.

Thank you so much for each of your replies which helped put me back on track.

I completed my 10k trail run on the Sunday. It was difficult, as it was a trail run which I'm not used to, but I did it and was so happy. Following advice on here, I collected my medal πŸ˜ƒ, then came home to rest and rehydrate for a couple of hours. I then went out and did another 4k. So I did it, 14k in one day....πŸ˜„

My next long run was a very slow 16k the following week and I can't believe that I managed to go that far. I've bought some tailwind so had that and some water during my run, and a couple of dried apricots. I'm still just trying different hydration and nutrition methods but I think it went ok.

So, all is looking fine, although I am a bit worried about my upcoming 18k. After that, I'm dropping back for a week before my the main event, The Royal Parks Half on 10 October 2021.

I really appreciate the help and support on here at my low point. Thanks again everyone 😁

That's really fantastic! Well done. It must be such a boost to your confidence after our 'wobble'. Remember it though. If it happens again, just know that there is a better run waiting for you next time. You're well on track for your half, and we're all ready to cheer you on!

Have you claimed your 10 mile badge here yet?

18 km would be the logical next step. It's what I did back in April after 10 miles. The following weekend was to be 20km but I had problems with tight hamstrings at 14km in which led to me not completing it back then.

Best of luck! If you've done 16 you should be able to do 18, and if you can do 18 you can definitely do a HM.
