In fact its almost here. I did a pre-work run yesterday and in spite of putting out a long sleeved top (I hadn't been sure if I would run before or after my workout so maybe as early as 4:30) at the last minute I thought naw... don't need that and grabbed a short sleeved one... ooooh felt it. Still dark, dew glistening on the verges, stars twinkling. All the way up the hill I'm thinking too cold, too cold, bad move. It did keep me moving at a decent pace though π€£ππ»
Having discovered that yes, if I really want it, I can fit in a run before work (albeit shorter than I usually consider) I think I'll be doing more of those, helping to reduce my weekly goal pressure and take some of the distances down on my weekend/day off.
My body is pretty tired currently so I think although I'll sacrifice another 30 mins of sleep it will thank me in the long term π€π»
I'm not looking forward to the mud that will inevitably come but I like autumn. I might have to get a better headtorch this year. My shoes are getting to the end of their life so I'll have even more excuse to get a new pair in time for my birthday next month ππ»π
I've got some time off booked for next month, some of which is a yoga retreat so I'm looking forward to that and I'm hoping to put in, if not a full tech ban, at least greatly reduced for that period too.
What will autumn bring for you or what changes will you make to accommodate the new season?

Spring is here for us so itβs warming up for my daytime runs. Iβm keen to not start running at 5am yet so will keep my long run distance at 8-10miles. I love Autumn in the UK. Itβs so pretty.
Iβm not a huge fan of running in the dark as years of living in London has made me quite jumpy! I love running too much though to let my fear stop me. Itβs 5am or too hot in the Summer here π
Weβre heading into my favourite seasons, cold, misty, woodsmoke filled air, golden weather and crisp daysβ¦. Perfect for running π
Iβve noticed the light levels first, itβs darker in the mornings and we have to put the lights on much earlier in the evenings. But itβs outside thatβs best. My garden is already changing colour and autumn is usually a busy old time for me, starting to cut back and move plants, etc.
Running-wise I head to the arboretum when I can as the colours are absolutely stunning and visitors come from all over the world (well, they used to βΉοΈ) so I have to pick my times carefully. But after all these years of running there I never tire of the glory of the season πππββοΈ
Iβm on taper this week, two short runs and then Bristol on Sunday!!! Iβm as excited about meeting up with cheekychipmunks as I am about the actual race thing π
Iβve had a sports massage this morning and she said my legs felt in good shape so Iβm all ready to go to the start line!
Have a great week everyone and hereβs to cooler days for some of us x
I see so many changes in the countryside from my truck vantage point. I've been watching (and a bit held up by) all the harvesting. The trees are changing... leaves are starting to fall. I won't be upset to see the nettles die back!
I'm looking forward to not having to translate BST every day when the clocks revert (tachographs work on UTC which is essentially GMT) it's the small things!! ππ€£
Excellent! Good luck for Sunday to both of you. Hopefully the weather will be perfect! π€π»
I bet you see so much driving around. I think once the clocks go back itβs really pulling-the-curtains-and-lighting-the-candles-time π―(we do have electricity but I love candles π)
Thanks for the luck. Weather looks as if it might be just right π€
This week is going to be recovery. I did my first HM yesterday and felt absolutely fine afterwards (apart from slightly sore ankles and tingly leg muscles).
Autumn is a lovely time to run. I don't even mind it getting dark. The only problem I find is partially rotted fallen leaves which are very slippery.
I also got a notification from Strava and Garmin that my current shoes have done 600km. I reckon I've got about another two to three weeks use in them before I need to change to some new ones. There's still full rubber coverage on the sole. As they're minimalist with almost no padding the thickness of the sole is not important. I have three almost identical new pairs on standby.
Hello JoJo and thank you for hosting the Weekly Chat. I hope you have a relaxing time at the yoga retreat and recharge and reenergise.
Iβm not a huge fan of the upcoming seasons because of the lack of light but I do appreciate the sunny and cooler days when they happen especially those days that IP wrote so eloquently about. π
Iβm resting up after my 10k race on Sunday where I got a PB despite my angry ankle. Iβm seeing the physio tomorrow but bizarrely the ankle feels a lot better today. π€·ββοΈ I may go out for a short run today just to shake out the legs, taking it very easy of course.
Itβs my 60th birthday next month and I will no doubt use that as an excuse to buy yet more running shoes. Canβt wait. π
Happy running all. πββοΈ ππ»ββοΈ π
Ooh, your time off sounds good!!! I'm sure a recharge will be very welcome. Not sure I do anything different for autumn π€although I might have to put my shorts away (having found a pair I finally love, I'm loathe to have to do that!). Like others, my biggest issue is lack of daylight but now I'm working less hours, it should hopefully have less impact on other things I want to do. I just booked a flight back to Canada so imagine I'll be wishing autumn, winter and early spring away π.Happy running, working out and finding enough hours in the day π
I was warm thankfully. When I got home my saturated clothes did that thump to the floor, which always makes me smile. I think IP described this a while ago in one of her posts. Itβs the sign of a job well done I think ππββοΈ
It did make me think I could use a waterproof come winter. Iβve never had one, but getting severely frozen last winter when I got drenched and freezing π₯Ά, it made me think I should get one. A decathlon one on my Christmas list I think π
I've got a few; a mizuno that packs super small it will go in a pocket. It's not super waterproof but helps keep the wind out and is so easy to carry.
A decent karrimor running jacket that the sleeves zip out of to make a gilet. Again, not super, super waterproof but keeps me warm.
I bought a super expensive, real waterproof... but I haven't actually tested it in real conditions yet but the reviews were good π€·ββοΈπ€π»π€£
It's been super nice these last four days running early mornings with no gear, no pack, no phone, not even having to carry keys. Very liberating.
After 18 months of lost mojo (I. blame Covid π,) I've gone back to square 1 with C25K to get back off the sofa injury free. My wife is a C25Ker now too! I'll try to get back to longer distances next year with a HM in the spring and a second marathon in the autumn. We will see...
Over here September started with summer doing a mega-sulk! We've had a fortnight of "yeah but no but yeah" about making way: storms, then temperatures back up into the mid-30s, then more storms, temps still into the mid-20s, rain forecast again. So I'm mainly hoping that autumn is drier and cooler.
It should also be bringing my trail marathon event (and goodbye, not a moment too soon, to training), my 61st birthday, and semi-retirement from work. It'd be really nice if it didn't bring a repeat of 2020's Covid-related restrictions, as I love autumn and would like to be able to get outside and enjoy it, especially in my beloved woods and forests.
