My birthday is this week - the big Five-Oh! ๐ฒ๐๐ฅ
Champagne and cake all round ๐๐๐
As mentioned previously, I am planning on doing the Grand Tour of Skiddaw (44 mile ultramarathon in the Lake District) next year (at least, I hope they have it next year!) as part of the celebrations. Amongst other things ๐๐๐ I'm also looking forward to running in a new age group ๐
What will you do for your next big birthday?
Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week. Please join in the discussion!
If you're new or a lurker this is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.
Happy birthday for the coming week Roseabi, mine was a week ago and I spent the day sorting out the house while wife was in London all day! But we did go out for a nice meal later in the week.
Meanwhile - yes, it is (or at least should be) a fabulous week for me this week. Fresh from the Cardiff 10K yesterday (fastest chip time to date, whoop whoop etc etc), I am now in Pembrokeshire for a weekโs hiking and running - lots of coastal path walks, lots of trail running.
As per my modified abiplan, my long run this week should be another HM distance, and Iโll also be doing the regular strength sessions that Iโve (finally!) managed to start doing. 5 weeks to go to the HM and am well on track
So all good, the sun is shining (for now), and Iโm really looking forward to the week ahead!
Still aiming for HM distance before my 70th next year, have to get a Zimmer frame with go faster wheels ๐ And Happy Birthday youngster, hope itโs a great one, am in awe of your target ๐ฒ
Not a race just the distance, trotting along with my boys. Think solo is probably going to be harder than an organised race, but I am very competitive and think I would go too fast and risk injury, which would be very difficult with pups to exercise, so decided to just do my own thing, but I will run every step to count it in my mind. I also really donโt like crowds of people. Iโm a lonely goat through and through ๐๐๐
Wow it looks lovely, just watched a video from a few years back and totally makes one want to do it. People even walk bits and just seem happy plodding along. Iโd love to run in a place like that. Maybe you need a fan club and we can place ourselves along the track!!
Iโm trying to get a friend to run it too... yeah maybe I should come and do a food stand. Do you think the runners would mind if there is no food left?
Mine will be a huge 70th...next year..! Not sure what it will involve.. but my running will be part of it! And although I said no more HMs..I will be trying to get onto the Monsal Trail HM again, next March...just before my birthday.
Hoping misswobble and Bluebirdrunner will be around to do it too!!๐
After the exciting run yesterday..I sneaked a short run in this morning...and then Thursday will be my next run day, so some serious strength work in between and long run day next Sunday. I want to try building up my Sunday distance again now..
Happy Birthday! I thought you were going to say itโs my 40th coming up! Looking good for 50!!!!! Must be the running! I feel much better since I started! I would love to be able to think about doing ultra marathons as they go through beautiful parts of the country, But il stick to aiming for10 k at the moment! Thankyou for your posts they really do keep me going!x
Happy birthday Roseabi, Iโm hoping to not see a big birthday for ages, but my 60TH triggered me looking at myself, my health and got me looking at c25k. Now that was a turning point.
This week UpTheStanley and me are in a 10k race in the beautiful New Forest and then it will be continued progression toward that 10 miles.
Yes we have walked some of it before. There will be people camping over the weekend (not us) so there will be a festival atmosphere. The weather looks cool too.
Going to start C25k (3rd time) build the foundations and all the way to my once in a lifetime marathon 2020.
First staging post, complete C25k, both here and in Dubai for a month, will celebrate that by doing Dubai Park run end of Nov with my daughter.
I will treasure that and perhaps get a PB, probably not difficult considering I have only done one when I completed C25k first time round over a year ago.๐๐คฃ
A lot of water has gone under the bridge since then as they say.
Any excuse for a glass or two of ๐ฅ roseabi, so enjoy your big birthday and weโll help you celebrate! ๐๐
I had my mid-decade birthday this year so nothing big for a few more years. (Fine by me!!) ๐
No groundbreaking runs coming up this week for me. I might do a pootly 10k. Iโm preparing myself for a HM distance attempt some time later in the month then I have the GSR next month - followed by a winter of trying to regain a โlittleโ bit of pace which has dropped off since starting these longer runs (and with it being so hot). Itโs the best part about running - thereโs always something to work on! ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ๐โโ๏ธ
Exciting times for sure! That race sounds right up your street. Good wishes for your birthday. I hope you get some running goodies.
I had a hard week of running this week and feel a bit pooped today. I've got a 24 km run scheduled for Wednesday but it's dog-walking day so I'll be shuffling the plan around to accommodate it.
Greetings Roseabi Very Best Wishes for a wonderful Happy Birthday and a fabulous year ahead. I will have one (or two) for you next week as i have the Stratford 10k on Sunday and so am on the wagon this week. For my next Birthday treat in October i'm doing the Rugby HM, My next Major Birthday is in 3 Years hoping to still be running by then that's the main aim. Have a fun week.
Happy birthday young lady๐๐พ๐พ๐พ. Looking back at when I was 50 I was working ridiculous hours and driving ridiculous miles too. Being 67 has its compensations; I am much healthier these days!
It's amazing isn't it! I am the fittest I've ever been and I don't see why we all shouldn't just continue onwards and upwards. GO US!!!!!!!!!! ๐๐๐
Ooh thanks for the champagne and cake, how fabulous indeed! Have a very, very happy birthday! I have 18 months or so to my 60th and am most looking forward to the new age category
Chased my hospital progress today; seems the MRI referral was never made on 22nd August! ๐คฌ๐คฌ๐คฌ๐คฌ๐คฌ. In light of no longer being in pain walking (mega progress after 3 and a half months of feeling it) I asked them to scrap the MRI and move straight to the fracture clinic appt, so I now have a fracture clinic appt for the week after I'm back from Canada. If it starts hurting before then, at least I now have the secretary's number and can hassle her to reinstate the (non-existent) MRI referral. So 26th September - over 4 months since I last ran - I am hoping the consultant will say I can start running. Mad to have to go all that way just to ask that question... of course, I may not be able to wait til then to try an itty bitty test run ....
Gawd, it's one frustration after another! The poor old NHS is on its knees! Good to hear you can walk without pain though, that is progress! Have a fab holiday and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you for 26th Sept ๐ค
Happy Birthday Abi! I hope this year brings all you hope for and more. That race sounds awesome too. One day I would hope to try something like that. I started c25k on my 50th year and it has changed everything since.
Itโs been another long distance week for me with another 30 done on the plan. Not the best run week mentally, but thatโs the way it is sometimes eh? Have a great week everyone.
Happy 50th roseabi ! (Mine was last year and I did the GSR for the second time - first time around I was 21!). All the best to you for a wonderful year of running!!
Hope all your birthday celebrations go to plan especially GTOS. Rather tempted by this myself. Love the lakes and have climbed Skiddaw a number of times. ๐ฌ.
I totally thought you had got fifty and forty mixed up! Happy birthday Rosebi. An ultra sounds hugely impressive but quite fitting for a milestone birthday! ๐ฅณ๐ธ๐ง๐โโ๏ธ xx
Thank you, Tasha!! I love the Lakes, but it's a long journey for me, so I'm saving it up ๐๐๐ I went up Skiddaw many times in my youth, which is why this race seems so special xxx
I am in my third week of no running, next osteo appointment is 13th Sept and he said I may be able to start running again then. To be honest I don't really hold out much hope, hip and pelvis still irritated and heel still swollen. Wondering if I'm wasting my money.
I really should take a leaf out of linda9389 's book and take up an alternative form of exercise but I've been hanging onto the hope I can start running again. I have been doing exercise classes a couple of times a week and the odd yoga but not found anything that replaces running. Sorry for the moan, feeling a bit sorry for myself โน
Oh dear. I know how you feel. It's so depressing and so 'ever present' too - my first thought every day is ' how will my foot feel today'. I too am losing faith in the people I've seen. I've been lucky finding cycling an interesting distraction, though it won't be a bad weather sport for me ๐. Thing is, major improvement could be just around the corner we just don't know. Hang on in there. Keep hoping. And I'll keep hoping for you too ๐
Thank you Abi ๐ Yes here is the only place I can have a good moan and people understand! Other people often say "well don't run then, do something else" but they don't know how hard it is to give up on it when you've got the running bug!!
Happy Birthday Abi, hope you have a wonderful day. No, week. Everyone makes their birthday last a week nowadays, right?!
Great North Run (finally!) on Sunday. So Iโm taking it easy this week; might stretch my legs a little at Durham parkrun on Saturday though. Can I trust myself to take it gently though... ๐ค Bought some Tailwind for the big day and I need to test it out in case it doesnโt suit me.
I didn't see this post earlier this week! So happy birthday to you, roseabi . Last week was a bit weird. I went for a 10 km run that I was pleased with, but got terribly stiff afterwards, and my thighs ached for several days, so I decided to hold off on running. Work was quiet, so I did quite a bit of my "urban orienteering", which was fun, and I racked up a nice distance there. I was RD at parkrun on Saturday, which went well.
Otherwise I spent the week wondering when I'd be able to fit in my next HM distance run ahead of my race. This turned into dreading the run for some reason. I finally managed it today, and it went fine. I think I still struggle in advance with knowing that I'm going to be out there for a long time.
