Wow! It's here already! Are you ready? I'm almost ready but as with every year lately, it arrives faster and faster! πŸ™ˆ

So on to more important things...πŸ€ͺ is Christmas for you;

A time to run

A time for a break

A mix of the two?

For me it's usually a time to run along with some extra walking and some cycling with Paul. I managed 96 miles across the Xmas break last year, completely unplanned, it just worked out that way. I don't think this year will be anywhere near that but a little mileage boost is always nice.

What running goodies are you hoping to find under your tree? I need a new pair of shoes but I'll order those myself!

A very Merry Christmas wish from myself and all of us here. No matter if you manage to run or not over this coming week, enjoy yourselves, embrace Nature if you can, and your loved ones, and keep smiling πŸ’–

If you have a race coming up in December do let us know here; healthunlocked.com/marathon...

If you would like a badge, let us know here; healthunlocked.com/marathon...

Hi GoGo_JoJo & other running superheroes,

I’m planning a break over Christmas and New Year as I’ve run 1829km this year! My goal was 1200km so I’m excited to see what 2022 will bring. New trail shoes already wrapped for under the tree.

Have a wonderful Christmas everyone. β€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

That's a great result to goal ratio! Enjoy your new shoes, and your break! πŸ˜πŸ‘πŸ»

Hiya GoGo. I’ve just done my card drop bingo square to start my Bath Half training off. Can’t believe it’s only 12 weeks away! Haven’t done a HM since July due to my ankle issues so I’m going to take this steadily. Hoping to do a short run on Wednesday to do the Christmas tunes square. Don’t think I can run for too long with those in my ears πŸ˜…As for pressies, I really don’t think I need any more kit (although a Garmin that didn’t constantly put me in Zone 5 would be good!), I just want my ankle better - a deep tissue massage on Thursday will hopefully help.

Today I also completed my 300th day of 10k steps, maybe I’ll treat myself to some new shoes when I’ve got to 365!

A merry Christmas to you and the rest of the team, I hope Santa brings you all something lovely πŸ§‘πŸΌβ€πŸŽ„πŸ˜πŸŽ„πŸŽ„πŸŽ„

I totally agree on the Garmin front, they really need an attitude adjustment!! πŸ€£πŸ‘πŸ»

I completely understand on the ankle front! 🀞🏻 for your massage!

That's a great streak on the step front, definitely need a reward! 😁

Always a mix of the two. I can never get out on Christmas Day but usually on Boxing Day πŸ€—

Like TailChaser I’m starting Bath HM training this week so I’ll definitely have to run!

I’m not expecting any running related goodies as I have everything but it’s always lovely to receive new kit πŸ™‚ My husband bought me a stunning running jacket last year that I never would have bought for myself because it’s so nice I could wear it as an everyday jacket 😍

Happy Christmas Jo and everyone x

Boxing day is good as after the big feed some movement is needed! 🀣

Good luck with the training, let's hope we get decent weather for a while!

Enjoy! 😁

It's still mild in the South East, bit chillier in Kent where I am right now. I must admit I want to be able to use my fleece lined leggings again, been in the drawer for a couple of years now πŸ€”πŸ™ƒπŸ‘πŸ»πŸ˜

It's a time to run for me. Just starting week 5 of my 14 week HM plan, so as with two years ago, December and January are key training months for a March Half!

Today I ran my longest run since the March 2020 half, I did "half a half", 11km in just over an hour and it went well, still some gas in the tank so I am delighted to get over the mental barrier of half way there (though my legs may start objecting a bit later.!)

Merry Christmas!

Excellent! It's great to have goals to help motivate over the darkest months. πŸ’«

Well done! Yes, good to tick off increments. Just don't tell the legs πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ™ƒ

It's only my second Christmas as a runner, and my first since I (mostly) retired, so I guess it really has to be a time to run!

Weather permitting, that is. Gorgeous blue skies but really icy yesterday, so I didn't run. Today it's been frosty, foggy and grey (see photo) and temperatures haven't made it above minus 3.5Β°. Oddly though it's less slippery, so I went out anyway for a 6.5k pootle and really enjoyed it.

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate it, and Season's Greetings to those who don't! πŸ˜€

Fantastic, and you've got the terrain to really enjoy it. I'm missing my hills so will need to get up there and back on some "real" trails 🀣

Cold and crisp is best but sometimes there's no way to know what it will really be like, just another excuse to get out... and find out! πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ˜

It'll be a mix of the two. I'm probably going to do short runs on Christmas Day morning and Boxing Day.

And I'm expecting Injinji socks to be under the tree.

GoGo_JoJo profile image
GoGo_JoJoUltramarathon in reply to nowster

That's a good plan. I've already treated myself to some more injinji! πŸ™ˆπŸ€£ didn't wait, they can go out of stock in my size!

Hope there's some waiting for you! 😁

Run, eat, run, eat, eat, run, eat, run, run, eat eat is about as far as I’ve got with my plans, not necessarily in that order!

I’d like to get a nice long run in so maybe that can count as 2 or 3 of the above 🀣.

I'm pretty much ready for Christmas - I think. Trying to have a quietish week before the house fills up (covid willing). I think I would also need to request some storage space for Christmas if I asked for any more running gear!!!

Our parkrun is on on Christmas morning and I haven't done a parkrun all year ... so I'm hoping to make that and then see how that affects the delivery of Christmas lunch. Mostly though I will be celebrating the improvement in my leg and keep chipping away at the bingo card. Happy Christmas everyone!

GoGo_JoJo profile image
GoGo_JoJoUltramarathon in reply to linda9389

Yes, that's the biggest problem! I need another clear out of non running stuff I think, make more room!

Parkrun Xmas day sounds great. Nice social way to start the day off!

I've gotten further on the card than I expected, especially as I didn't think I'd have chance! πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ˜

I've got no chance of the "postie run" - my nearest card/pressie drop would involve running a marathon!

Actually linda9389 and GoGo_JoJo , the deeply worrying thing is that I found myself thinking well it's only two HMs, one to get there and the other to get back. 🀯

(Let's ignore the fact that it's a month since my last HM, I've been pootling around doing short easy runs for weeks, and the temperature's below freezing. Does make me think I should get in another HM as soon as the weather plays ball though!)

It’s a mix or rest and run for me. I’m off for two weeks and hopefully being made full-time in Jan, so I am running with a bit more ease this week. I got a 19k solo run in on Saturday in a wooded area I really enjoy, and we had a full on snowstorm just as I began. It was just lovely seeing everything fill up with the fluffy white snow. I tested the local trails this morning and they were very icy especially on the downhills, so around halfway through I opted to run the rest on the flat golf course also covered in snow. I have one small group run planned with my trail friends on Jan 2nd. Beyond that I am maxing the relaxing and scarfing all the Christmas cookies I can find. As for gear, I have around 950km on my road shoes and 900 on my Torrent trail shoes, so if I can find a new pair of Hokas I will be happy. They are going fast! Maybe I will take advantage of the Boxing day sales if there are any left. Happy Holidays everyone and all the best for the new year.

More work hours means get the time in whilst you can!

Ice isn't good but the snow is so pretty when fresh. I don't think we'll get anything to speak of in Dec.

New shoes is definitely a theme! πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ˜

It’ll be run where I can fit it in with 2x under 10s in the house. I’m on week 11 of a 17 week Garmin HM plan, but it’s all gone awry over the last week due to a cold. Got my covid booster tomorrow (21st) so will run to that 11km and have a go at running home if I feel upto it (ran to the first 2 covid stabbing but got the bus home).

Will sneak out on the 25th, probably before the kids are up though. And hoping to get another long run in, probs NYE or New Year’s Day where I’ll be hoping for close on HM distance and knowing me will probably push it for the sake of it!

Best wishes for the season everyone x

Sounds like some good plans, definitely harder with kids wanting/ needing attention and they don't usually want to run with parents 🀣

Don't push too hard! Good luck with the plans! πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ˜

I’m planning on running as I’m following a new plan. Might have Christmas and Boxing Day off as I’ll probably be doing all the cooking πŸ§‘β€πŸ³πŸ”₯

After that I’ll be running for the hills πŸ™‚πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

I hope to get some running bits from Santa, and a race entry πŸ™πŸ˜‡πŸ€ž.

I’m planning on running in the morning - 7 miles hopefully.

This cooking/housekeeping lark really gets in the way of running time doesn't it!?

🀞🏻 santa has paid attention! πŸŽ…

Once the big days are over its sorry of play time then... enjoy the hills! πŸ˜πŸ‘πŸ»

I did just over 17km this morning πŸ™‚. Glad to have it it ticked off πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

I’m going for an intervals run on Thursday. Or else 😁. I’m dog walking on Friday, so another excuse to avoid chores 😎. Might gather some festive foliage for a door decoration while we’re out and about πŸ•.

I’ve not got my tree up yet πŸŽ„

GoGo_JoJo profile image

😲 no tree yet!? Shocking! 😱 ticking runs off does take priority though! I'll keep my fingers crossed for your tree!! πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ€£

misswobble profile image
misswobbleMarathon in reply to GoGo_JoJo

Putting my tree up is a day-long job as it’s one of those that you have to assemble branch by branch. I managed to get the layers in the wrong order so had to start again 😀

It looks great when it’s done though, but it’s getting a bit bald in places. I can’t in good conscience dispose of it to landfill, and I doubt it’s recyclable, so I keep dragging it out every year πŸ˜ƒ. I might Freecycle it in the New Year. That would save having to cart it back up two flights of stairs πŸ™‚

GoGo_JoJo profile image
GoGo_JoJoUltramarathon in reply to misswobble

🀣🀣🀣 I used to have one of those, they can look really good, it stayed behind in a previous relationship πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ€£ freecycle is a great idea. Mine is only in 3 bits now, bend the branches out, much easier. πŸ‘πŸ»

Howdy and best wishes to everybody here!

I have come a bit in a down running wise, I find sitting on the couch under a plaid so much better than being out running. I really should kick myself in the butt and get out there. Now the past weekend (Friday - Saturday - Sunday - Monday) I could not run. On Friday I helped my folks to break out the old floor in a room and put in a new floor and just like with the previous room (couple of weeks / months ago), my body disliked the work enormously. I have been so sore in my legs and butt! I took 2 hot baths with Epsom salts, but they did not help a single bit unfortunately. Despite the work having been done on Friday, I still could hardly walk on Monday. Tuesday came and still feeling not up to running. I know I know, it might help loosen up those muscles, but beeeeuuuu. Anyhow, might try a short run tomorrow (Thursday) and I'll see for over the weekend...
