A few weeks ago I completed a HM combing two routes which included a few “spurs” which means I have to double back on myself, still a great run though. I have pondered in recent days on whether I could get a 16k as near to a circular route as possible - circular in as much free flowing the way of the run going forward all the time.
I set off in fine drizzle this morning which was lovely. It was good fun to achieve different distances at different stages of the run, I began to realise at about 12k I would be completing the 16k earlier than I thought. As I usually have breakfast for anything above 16k - first dilemma, second dilemma should I ring OH to pick me up as I’d be at a point which would be ok although by the time he would get to me I could probably have run another k towards home!
So after a few seconds of weighing things up, I felt ok, I had my tailwind, a few jelly babies and a 1/4 flapjack enough rations should I need them. Decision made carry on and see where I get to before my 5 min cool down walk would appear. I ran through a small wooded area of an old disused railway line and made my way to the main road and 5 mins from home just as the lady on Strava said 18k - all was well, I enjoyed a bit of flap jack and jelly babies as I walked home to be greeted with a cheer as OH who had picked up on the fact I’d done 18k rather than 16k.
The other good news was that 300 miles came up for the Welsh Coastal Path route as I logged my distance and I have the joy of seeing my funny shaped route with the little bit not joined up of my warm up and warm down walk on my map.
Just a matter of an extra 5k run tomorrow for the vitality challenge - hope my legs will be ok!
Happy running everyone this weekend 🏃🏻♀️
