Hi everyone, I completed the Vitality Big Half yesterday, on my 58th birthday! It was very well organised and everyone seemed to enjoy it. Apparently it was the first ‘big’ event since the pandemic started and I was very pleased to be part of it.🏃♀️🏃♂️
I had no expectations in terms of time due to recent injury, but I managed to get round with the support of the crowds. The route was towards docklands then through Stepney and Deptford then finished in Greenwich. It was great to be able to finish and it’s a birthday I’ll remember for a long time!🥳🎉
I’ve got some photos but unfortunately I can’t post them on here ☹️ so you’ll have to take my word for it that I finished!🏁

So glad it worked out for you! Just goes to show that injury is rarely the end of the world, however miserable and frustrating it seems at the time. With the right attitude and a bit of effort comeback is absolutely possible. Great job!
Great run David and well done for beating the injuries. So frustrating. A gentle run tomorrow to iron out the knots maybe? Hope you had a proper celebration 🎉🍾
Thanks Beachcomber66 👍 I might go for a short run tomorrow, or maybe a bike ride 🚲 then I’m heading down to Weymouth to stay with a friend and carry on the birthday celebrations! 🥳
Thanks Comfortnotspeed, it’s the London Summer Run in a couple of weeks then the Great South Run in October, so hopefully I’ll be able to post photos of one or both of those!
Well done on completing the Big Half David! 👏👏🎉🏅 - especially as I know you have been injured. I saw some of the coverage on the iPlayer yesterday and it looked fantastic. It’s great to see this big events coming back at last! 🙂
Thanks Sandraj39, the injury certainly didn’t help and I had to walk some of it, but that doesn’t matter! It was a great event and everyone was so pleased to be back running together again!
Ah well done David_G! It sounds like a really good time was had by all. Yesterday was my birthday too, but I did a much shorter 8k. So pleased your injury didn’t put a stop to a great run! 😊😊😊
Well done! What a great way to celebrate your birthday! I ran it too, so good to get back to real races again. The event was very well organised, I hope there was cake afterwards for you!
Excellent job David_G. I hope you are now rested after your HM, and have have had no repercussions. Running in real races is such fun isn’t it? I’m a bit late but Happy Birthday for Sunday- a very good excuse to eat cake 🥳 🎂 .
You can now add photos again so you can edit your post to show us some bling 🏅
Well done DG 👏👏👏 Sounds like the whole experience was great fun. Fabulous birthday. Lots of celebrating to do 🥳🎉🥳🎉. I will be doing my first HM on the 12th September which is the GNR. Hoping the crowds will help get me round too.
Well done - for completing the race and getting a post on here so promptly! I didn't see you among the thousands 🤣. My race report to follow later this week.
Well done! How wonderful to run a half Marathon in London on your Birthday.😀🏃♂️Extra special celebrations! I’m the same age & just ran my first half. I hope your injury has recovered and wishing you happy 🏃♂️
