Towards the end of a Friday long run, I was running along a pavement with a seriously overgrown hedgerow. Reached up to move an overhanging branch out of the way only to find it was a bramble with plenty of thorns. The shock caused me to miss my footing on the tiny width of pavement available, foot slipped off the kerb and over I went.
Was able to complete my run and another the following day (Saturday) but my arm was sore. My next run was on the Tuesday, I was heading to the GP's surgery for another matter. Encountered chest pains as soon as I started running. After a minute or so, there was no sign of it settling down so I slowed to a walk. Checks by the GP didn't find anything, I've been referred to cardiology and advised not to run. I didn't mention the fall because, by then, my arm was getting better.
In the following days, movements like sitting up became sore so I now think that my torso was damaged by the fall and that's the reason for the chest pains.
Managed a 5k yesterday but it was uncomfortable and I had to take it very easy. It's about 12 days since the fall and I'm still sore. Hopefully, it will clear up soon, otherwise, it's going to have a serious impact on my training.

Oh no! It’s usually the simple little things that trip us up, sometimes literally, through life. Green things have been known to stop me in my tracks over the years too 🙄
Good news that there’s no serious damage but bad news about the running break. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery for you 🤞…. And Mutley was always very wise 😀
I had a very bad fall around Christmas time, I hadn't realised I had put my hand down to break my fall, but I must have, I sprained all the muscles around my chest and shoulder. Let's hope you've done the same and that's all it is.
Eek! Sorry to read this - and do go carefully, at least until you have been properly checked out. From what you describe, it does sound like a muscular-skeletal thing but of course, we are not medically trained on here. Training will wait...just saying!😬🤞🙂
I’m really sorry this happened and I hope it winds up being nothing more than a small piece of adversity that you encounter on the journey to your ultra goal. Fingers crossed for you.
It is a b*gger when a few things come together (a concatenation?) and you can’t identify what the real cause is. Plus the difficulty of seeing a doctor at the moment. Take it easy SM.
I remember when my ex bruised and cracked his ribs they actually gave him morphine for the pain, his was a similar accident, but he was playing football at the time. He had no visible bruise and the doctor told him that it just takes time. His were actually, but it took 4-6 weeks for the pain to go away (from memory - he worked in a restaurant and had to be signed off for a month because he couldn't lift anything easily). He got back to easy running quicker though, just couldn't do anything that required lifting or deep breathing.
