Morning ski. My only aim is to complete 13.1. No matter what with no walking or stopping except to cross roads, so I guess a training run. I have never competed in any race so far except virtual ones. ๐ค
You can absolutely complete your HM. Conserve your energy by starting off at a super relaxed pace and maintaining it, fuel up before you need it - I tend to start popping jelly babies and having sips of water at around 10k - and pick a known route where there are no nasty surprises, especially in the latter stages! No one wants a massive hill at 18k! ๐ฅต
One word of warning - and Iโve heard it said by others too - 17k is often where a bit of a wall hits. My theory is that youโve passed the big 10 mile milestone, but thereโs still 4.1k to go which seems far when your legs are waning. Dig deep if that happens, youโre so close! Oh, and make sure you register that final 0.10k - some run to 13.2k just to be sure!
I have already scoped out my route wit only a few hills which I know I can manage normally. It consists of a combination of my normal routes looped around home.
My philosophy is I am never to far from home and I always can quit if I really want to (never happened yet)It also works with well I know I can run this its only .....km
This is true cheekychipmunks . Those of us who are not very bright instead put in a hill at 15k-18k, with the biggest chunk of elevation at 17k. ๐ต It didn't seem as steep when I was driving up it! ๐คฏ
I did the coach Greg plan and had a lot of similar doubts. It did take me up to 10 miles on a 2 hour easy run and my target time was 2:20 so not such a big leap, but it stopped scheduling long runs almost 2 months before my race date.
I neednโt have worried though as I beat my target time by 6 minutes. If the coloured circle on you Garmin coach screen shows confidence in the green or higher, you will be fine! You have to remember every run prepares you not just the long ones. Good luck and remember to enjoy it ๐ช๐ป๐๐ปโโ๏ธ๐
Oh, don't forget, if you want some support on the way round download the RunGo app and use the HUHM virtual hm landmarks London tour, that way you'll have support and cheers as you go!
I may be running HM distance on Saturday morning too. I'm actually planning a 20km run but have chosen a route that would allow me to continue for the extra distance if I feel I'm not on the verge of collapsing in a heap.
I'm really pleased to see this post.Sounds like you are a week ahead of me on the same plan. My longest run was 11miles a couple of weeks ago but the runs have been getting shorter since. I am due to run the HM on 1 May and having the same doubts as you.Good luck this weekend. Looking forward to reading about your success! The replies from the more experienced runners are very encouraging_just what I needed to read.
