I had a message on Facebook from Graham at Fly 5k! He tells me that a number of you lovely VRBs have joined their community after reading this post - how cool is that!!! I hope that everyone who joined them has fun and will report back by posting here in the Marathon forum πππ

Hi all,
For those of you interested in improving, or just downright enjoying your 5K runs, I just spotted an article about an organisation called Fly 5k. They organise a weekly online community 5k run with a flavour of a real racing event!
I've taken part in this a couple of times - the FB group is really lovely and very positive. My running club, the Wheathampstead Warriors, is trying to eek its way up the team rankings but we are only a small village club so cheer us on!
I read this yesterday and thought it sounded fun, but didn't get as far as the bit about the all distances - serious lack of concentration these days π
Of course I will. Unfortunately the short run window means I can't take part this weekend (I'm working till 2) but I'll definitely be putting it in my diary for next week. I've got a 5K route that I like to run in order to push for a PB so maybe with the competitive element of this event motivating me, I might just get one.
Will be interesting to see how fast everyone else is, because it could also seriously demotivate if my fast is still too slow ππ€£
To me this looks quite different to (not)parkrun, as it is set up to encourage a little competition between runners, and the tight deadline makes it seem more like a racing event. Also, the special event in March is a nice touch! Anyway, I think there is plenty of room for both πππ
I think they're reaching different clientele. Parkrun is very much for everybody, and my experience of my local PR is that 25mins is fast. I'm always top 20 with a time of 23-25min.
I've just checked out last week's results. I'd be lucky to hit top 70 with my PB.
This suggests to me that Fly 5K really is more aimed at the faster runner, not every runner.
Reading it a second time makes me agree with you and roseabi. π ππΎ Fly5K by the very name suggests it's mainly for the sub 30 minute 5k runner.
Fly 5k contacted me, and want us to know that they're very much there for anyone and everyone, whatever speed, something to give us all a bit of encouragement!

Only just seen this post and fancy giving it a go. Just joined the Facebook page. Hopefully I'll figure out how to post my result next sat. Thanks for posting roseabiππ
