150 miles in July and in August for me. Can’t believe how much low heart rate training has improved me! Running for miles and my increased pace despite massively slowing down in general. Did 4 miles this morning to get me to my 150 mile target. I haven’t done anything fast in a couple of months so I was worried I’d lost the pace I’d gained in May. Therefore I thought I’d do a little 2.5k sprint finish home to see if I’ve still got it. 3 PRs! Really pleased! And my legs are aching from a rather hilly trail at the weekend 😊

Fantastic effort covering 150miles in july and August, a great distance and amazing speeds too. I suspect your slow down speed is still faster than my normal speed 🤣 happy running 🤗
This slow running thing is catching! I have just taken 38:38 to run 5k !! It was on my 152m elevation gain route where I walked the peaks last week...Today I decided that I was going to run the lot whatever happened, and so went super slow and made it, and my average heart rate was only 138 instead of the high 140s from my pre injury 35 min efforts over the same route. Food for thought.
It’s the way forward BC! It’s easier and more pleasurable and you get faster and gain endurance. What’s not to like?! I must admit though I’m going to get back to the 80/20 ratio, so a speed or tempo each week now since lately I’ve been doing all slow 🤣
Yes, but I have finally realised that I need that mixture. In April I backed off the hill work to build up my 10k speed for the Vitality. My 5ks were coming in under 30 minutes regularly and just before my injury I hit a great streak.. new 10k Pb etc, but then blew it with the speed challenge. I can’t maintain peak level for very long, so slow running and plenty of hills has got to play its part. 3 runs per week all at Pb pace is a recipe for IC, for me at any rate. Noise of penny dropping in the background !!🙂
That is so great to hear. You must be reassured now and going back to 80/20 will give you the pizzazz to be sparky when you need. Love it. You have had some cracking runs lately. Can I ask is Zone 3 better for helping your stamina than zone 2? I don't want to go too slow.
I know what you mean. Strava says zone 2 where Garmin will day zone 3 but I know it's comfy. Yesterday I did 7m at 13.30 (114 av HR) and today 10m at 11.30 (126 av HR) so Wednesday I'll go in the middle at 12.30 pace 😂😂😂😂😂😂 in time I'm hoping to run quicker but stay comfier for longer and maybe manage my HR similar.
