HUHM v10k Race Report. Planes, Trains and......... a circus 🎪

As a gentle request was made by Roseabi for ‘race reports’ of our virtual runs i thought I’d give one a go. It’s my first time so don’t expect a masterpiece please!

I decided to run the same route as my v10k attempt last week. I am still at a loss as to why I needed to stop on that attempt and given that it’s the only time it has happened Ive decided to write it off as just a bad day!

Anyway, I rather ignored the ‘race’ aspect today and ran what was a comfortable pace taking in my surroundings (see the ‘headline’ above). This wasn’t necessarily my intention but as my headphones battery gave up after about 1k I was left with little choice. I hadn’t realised how much I rely on music to maintain a steady pace!!

Anyway my route took me past a very busy circus, the London bound train line and our airport - all of which I took a quick photo of - why not? By the time I got to the airport the rain was particularly heavy and I was really enjoying the change from the recent runs in the beating sun until it got to the point where I couldn’t see a thing (glasses aren’t particularly practical in the rain are they). I had to resign myself to the fact that everything would be a blur for the last couple of km!! Who knows from there on what else I ran past 🤦🏻‍♂️ ha ha!!!

Brilliant, a 10k success! Who knows why some runs don't work out? Luckily they tend to be in the minority and they always make the next good one extra good!

I have glasses in the rain issues too - I end up peering over the top when things get too bad!

That rain was extremely heavy yesterday! Many runners in here have said wearing a peak cap helps in the rain when wearing glasses. I wear contact lenses 😂

Super run which keeps your confidence levels up too! Did you enjoy it without music? I ask as I don't run with music and wondered how you felt?

Thanks GTFC, I think I prefer to have music as it helps with rhythm and provides a distraction when the going gets tough. It’s definitely made me think I will do the odd ‘easy’ run without as it’s nice to just quietly take in the surroundings but I think for longer runs I’ll stick with my playlists!

Brilliant 10k Kevin. I also love music when running mine cut out once and I wasn't keen on just the sound of my breathing.

Maybe a baseball cap to help keep the rain out your eyes .

Well done 👏👏

Great run Kevin. As a fellow spec-wearer I completely empathise with the problem of running in the rain. Fortunately, I live in the driest part of the country so have mostly been able to avoid it. I’m just hoping none of my upcoming long runs turn into aquatic events ...
