Hey groovy runners!!!

How's it all been going this past week? Tell us allllllllll about it in the comments!!!

I have been sitting and waiting for Brighton Marathon's July announcement about whether or not they will be going ahead on September 20th. I am preeety sure that Brighton Marathon are sitting and waiting for London Marathon's July announcement πŸ˜„ Anyway, while I've been waiting, I've been thinking: Even if they do go ahead, would I really want to do it??? Hmm, probably not - it's hard to imagine how they could make it work safely. Also, I've already drawn up a route to run it by myself! So that's what I think I'll jolly well do! Boom, decision made 😊😊😊

Any decisions you've been wrestling with recently?

β˜… If you're new here, or just taking a look and getting comfortable before posting, hello! This post is a great place to introduce yourself if you're ready to do so.

Happy running and resting!

Looks like a great route roseabi and good luck with it. I haven’t got any half or longer marathons planned, but I’m well into my 30 day 100 mile challenge now. It’s the final week, and my hip has started playing up abit, but it should be fine. I need to find some good stretches for it. Have a good week all and happy running.

Think that would be the best decision roseabi to run it by yourself. My reason for saying this as just yesterday there was 9 confirmed cases of covid in an office building near me . Better to be safe. Good luck πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

I doubt races will go ahead until next year but I know nothing πŸ™‚

I’m struggling with lots of decisions atm. Should I fly over and see my mum? Should I still go ahead with my dentist check-up this week? Should I get my eyebrows topped-up? (A small insignificance in the big scheme of things but it means it’ll bu**er up my training for two weeks as I can’t sweat for that length of time πŸ™„)

I did go out for my first coffee last week and for Sunday lunch yesterday, gorgeous it was but every move is fraught with β€œam I doing the right thing?” Running is so much simpler....

Anyway, the tummy problem settled down and I got back to my training and ran a lovely 13K on Saturday. I did jar my knee a bit going downhill but hopefully there’s no lasting damage 🀞 I’m not running again until tomorrow but I need to do some strength stuff today as I’ve fallen off that a bit since the tummy thing.

Have a good week everyone and happy running πŸ™‚

I’m hoping races will be on later in the year! I’ve got a half and a full marathon to do πŸ˜ƒ. The marathon is the most likely of the two as it doesn’t involve any road closures. It all takes place on an empty holiday camp in November. πŸ₯Ά. Sounds fantastic doesn’t it 😁

Good luck with the return to training! πŸ’ͺπŸ‘πŸ˜ƒπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Sounds like a good decision on the Brighton HM.

I’ve got a HM already paid for (3rd Oct) but after a long lay-off I’m right back to only a C25k level of fitness right now. :-( My last few 3-4km 06:00 pace jogs have given me a skyhigh bpm, so I’m badly out of shape but at least still able to run. It’s a testament to our C25k and onwards journey, B210k and the HM groups, that we are able to jump off the sofa and β€œrun” 5k without too much fanfare after such a long lay-off.

10 weeks should be enough/fine to get to a HM β€œjog” level of fitness. That’s if the event goes ahead of course.

I plan NOT to let my fitness slide so far in future, I’d forgotten those β€œI really need to stop” β€œ I think I’m going to puke” feelings!

Maybe 2021 will hold more promise for us all?

Hi Roseabi, I’ve been keeping up with my running - yesterday was a 16k including running on sand and shingle on the beach. I’ve never done that before! It’s hard work but very rewarding!

I’ve posted separately about it so I won’t repeat it hereπŸ™‚

I saw some events are still going ahead in the US, but with runners being required to wear a face covering for the first mile until they split up. I’m not sure I’d want to do that!😳

I’m waiting to hear about various events but I’m not too hopeful. It would be good to do an organised run but we’ll have to wait and see what happens. In the meantime I’ll keep trotting around, doing my own thing and inventing new challenges for myselfπŸ™‚πŸ‘

Stay safe everyone, and enjoy your runs whatever you’re up to!πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

Hi, I am running 3 x a week with my running friends, generally doing 5.5km, 7km and 8km runs over the 3 days. However, it is so hot and only going to get hotter so twice now we have actually walked instead of running. Because of the heat, I have decided not to include any longer runs over 10km until the beginning of September and then my friends will start doing longer runs with me with a view to being able to run a half (to my own route locally) in early October. I have also started strength training twice a week and am feeling stronger generally which I am pleased about.

Really good to hear what everyone else is doing - the fear of the crowds at running events is very evident isnt it? When will it end ??

Definitely good to have a plan B at the moment. I just had an email from Kew Gardens 10k to say they hope to go ahead with their event on 12th Sept, so then I may have to make a decision! They are hoping to split it over the Saturday and Sunday and run it as a socially distanced event (whatever that means). They say Sat is half full already. Last year there were 3700 entrants so it's reasonably big, but not huge. They say they will confirm once they have finalised the second day. So we will see!

I have a niggly calf at the moment so am being a bit hesitant with my running. Sports massage booked for a week tomorrow though which will hopefully do the trick! Happy, safe running everyone.

Probably a wise move Abi. Better safe. The Toronto Waterfront mara was just made virtual and that’s in October, so I’m thinking my Oct race might get postponed or cancelled too. No word yet. I finally got back into a routine after that second hip issue. Its a little tight her and there but no pain. My Garmin Connect and Strava are not on speaking terms any longer though, so it may be manual entries for awhile

roseabiUltramarathonβ€’ in reply toDecker

Ah! That explains why I didn't see you on Strava the other day!! I wonder why Garmin and Strava have fallen out - was it over a segment? πŸ˜„ Srsly, how annoying!

I had a "Decisions, Decisions" dilemma today, but one of the best.

Adidas Ultraboost 20 or Brooks Ravenna 11?

The guy in the shoe shop was fantastic and like me was a Nike Lunarglide fan until they stopped making them. He said the Brooks is closest technically, the Adidas is a bit more spongy. So I went for the Brooks in a fetching blue shade (Adidas was boring black).

Got my gait checked too (nice straight ankles).

Now I get to break them in.

Hi I'd only really signed up for one 10km "real" race earlier in May that was postponed until 20th September which is my daughters birthday so the decision's been made for me really even if it does go ahead because she'd hate to stand there on her birthday watching me running. It must be so disapointing though when it's a marathon that's being trained for.

This week I've really been trying to slow my pace down, which has been alot harder than I thought, to keep my heartrate lower and actually I really enjoyed my last long run (17km) even though it's the farthest I've run, I think it helped that it was a different way too so new things to look at including my dream house for sale right next to the trail, if only I could win the lottery :D I've also stopped listening to music when I'm running which I thought I'd struggle with but it's really nice listening to the birds instead and noticing the wildlife more, like the buzzard that flew a few feet over my head and then down the trail in front of me running, it was lovely to watch.

I'm really appreciating this forum and being part of a group of like minded people is helping me alot with my motivation, despite encouraging them not a single person in my family is interested in running and think I'm mad, as soon as I start talking about what I've done/achieved I can see their eyes glaze over and the boredom sets in lol :D

Have a great week everyone and happy running :D

I started on the Garmin HM plan with Greg McMillan and I completed about 8wks but it's just not working. I'm jiggling my plan around a bit this week as my running club run tonight is too long for my short run and too short for my long run. I am going to tag on a mile before and after to cover the distance - in January I was worried about being able to drive home after our C25K sessions, nevermind adding on extra mileage!

I still haven't committed to a HM yet but am on W8 of a 12 week plan so I guess I need to give it some thought. I would love to experience the atmosphere of a proper run, especially for my first HM but I know I will have to be patient.

I have just signed up to Virtual Challenge's Camino de Santiago virtual challenge to encourage more walking in between runs - afraid to say I am still very fond of the couch. It is certainly getting me moving and even a walk to the supermarket and wandering around the aisles clocks up an extra mile. I have notched up 19 miles (you can use runs, walks and bike rides) over the last 6 days so just 461 miles to go! Anyway, need to prise myself off the couch and get on with the day.

Happy running this week folks xxx

I’m still up for my 10km race at the Brighton Marathon in September l. I’ve also signed up for the Sussex Downs Trail Run on the 5th September. They seem to have it well organised πŸ‘ I’ve also signed up for the Brighton Half and the 2021 Brighton Marathon. That’s a fairly good bet for going ahead I think. I would love to run the marathon once and this might be my brotherβ€˜s last too so I’m going to train for it and just see how it goes on the day and just go as far as I can sensibly go and then walk the rest.

I'd avoid crowds like that at all costs, a virtual run means you can do it safely. Looks like you have a well thought out plan B.

I'm coming up to lots of milestones in my running over the next month so I'm planning to stay injury free and mix up the lengths and routes. I keep trying for a slower pace so I can run longer distances by legs seem to just do what they want. I never run with apps or music so I can't use technology as a pace setter. I have no desire to as I have a hearing impairment and wear 2 hearing aids. As I run on roads I need to hear traffic. Happy running everyone πŸ€—

Hello! Thanks for posting.

My most recent running decision - drum roll - NEW SHOES! 😍 My other half was desperate for new trainers, his had actually fallen apart, so I went along to "help out" and accidentally, oops, came away with my beautiful new Hoka Clifton 6s! To be fair, my Clifton 5s had done over 750km so probably time to move on. Plus the shop had excellent offers on, so too good an opportunity to miss! I'm not really quite on the HM plan yet, just running as and when I can over some shorter distances to keep my eye in (and try out the new shoes!).

Unfortunately my Dad passed away a couple of weeks ago so the past 6 weeks has been pretty hellish with not that many opportunities to run as I've spent most of the time in the car travelling from place to place or with my Mum.... husband doing a good job of nudging me to run when I can and I do feel better for it. Calms the anxiety which is pretty prevalent right now. Any running is better than no running and the summer holiday should allow me to get back into more of a routine/push up the distance a bit.

So next general running decision - first stop is 10k, I'd like to be doing that again within four weeks. From September onwards will be pushing on a bit further.

Next HM decision - realistically I am aiming for Cambridge Half next March but so keen to stay in the group, lots of inspiring people out there.

Keep posting!

(Hmmm ... thought I'd posted earlier but it seems to have gone AWOL. If someone finds a random reply to one of their messages, it could be me ... Sorry!)

At the moment, the Great East Run on 20/9 is still supposed to be going ahead, so that's what I'm still working towards.

I'm currently at the start of week 4 of the runnersworld.com beginners' half marathon plan and just come back from a nice, relaxed 3.5k. Given that I was regularly running at least one 10k a week before this, the plan hasn't been too taxing yet ... but it may just be lulling me into a false sense of security!

I've no idea whether the event will actually happen in September but, whether it's cancelled or not, my intention is to run those 13.1 miles on 20th. I've been mulling over possible routes for any solo run. Should I make it as easy as possible and avoid the hills (not that there are too many round my way)? Should I plan things so that I can detour via home for a refreshment break at the half-way mark? Do I try to make things more interesting by trying a completely new route somewhere I've not run yet? Could I persuade my family to cheer me on for the last 5k when I might be flagging? Decisions, decisions ...

Lots of us waiting for the Vitality 10k decision at the moment. Supposed to be mid August - I reckon *everyone* is waiting for that London decision. We’ve also got the Big10k in early September to make a decision. I was going to do the Kenilworth HM a week later but that’s been cancelled Then there is the Alcester 10k on the day of the rescheduled VLM and they are pretty sure they’re going ahead! So who knows! Hi all! I'm well into my summer holiday now. I'm doing a bit of running, but not as much as usual. That's because we're having a summer of hiking. I debuted on a proper mountain at the end of June, with a 1429 m mountain with a 400 m ascent, mostly scree, and an almost invisible path. A couple of weeks ago, I did a couple of mountains around 1279 m with an easier 200 m ascent, on an 11 km hike.

Today we're heading off for the main bulk of our holiday. If all goes well, we should manage some even more serious mountains, two of which will entail fairly long hikes. I'm probably the weakest link in our family, but still think it should be doable. I can already see that I'm handling scree better than I was at the end of June, and I'm a bit more flexible, so fingers crossed!

Have a great summer!
