Humid and enjoyable? ..... I never thought I’d say that. 🥵🥵🥵

Morning everyone. I was in 2 minds whether to go out this morning. I don’t enjoy running when it’s swampy outside, but when I flicked through BBC Weather and saw it’s going to be like it all week, I gave my reluctant legs a talking to, grabbed the dog and began driving to the towpath before I could start making excuses or, worse, breakfast!

We’ve been away for a few days on Dartmoor, my favourite place in the world. My Dad grew up there and we used to holiday on the Moor every year when I was little. The purpose of this trip was to scatter Mum’s ashes near where we scattered his several years ago, and I purposefully didn’t take running gear, just walking boots 🥾 We said goodbye to Mum one last time and it was lovely. ❤️ She’s now back with Dad. 💕

We ate copious amounts of delightful food, and as I hadn’t run since my 10k on Wednesday, I knew I needed to get out and start shedding some of those calories!

Just a leisurely 7k out and back along the towpath, the air was thick and heavy, and there quite a few walkers, runners, horse riders and rowers. I waved to Mr Cheeky on the opposite bank as he was running a capsize drill at the club. Flossie thankfully didn’t leap in to swim over to him!

Ordinarily, with all the humidity and extra people I wouldn’t have enjoyed today’s run so much but no, it felt wonderful! I now feel invigorated, and after a yoga session I’ll feel justified in eating that breakfast!

Have a great week everyone. 😀

Glad that you had lovely weather for your trip to Dartmoor Cheeky. Emotional I’m sure, but lots of happy memories there.

Sounds like a great run after your running break. I think a week off every now and then is energising.

Thanks Dexy5 , it couldn’t have been more perfect. Dartmoor is bleak when the weather isn’t cooperating, but it was gorgeous and we were able to give Mum a lovely send off. ❤️☀️

Definitely good to have a break every now and then. I’ll keep my runs shortish this week with the weather like it’s meant to be. Got to keep it fun! 🏃‍♀️

Wonderful...reunited with Dad....and what a beautiful place x

Sounds like a good run this morning...it was very gloopy here and I resembled a post box when I got in.

You sound as if you really enjoyed it despite the added extras;)

Enjoy breakfast...you deserve it:) x

Thank you Oldfloss ! It’s the best place on earth as far as I’m concerned, and I know Mum and Dad would approve of their final resting places. ❤️

Strava told me it was 100% humidity and I can believe it. 🥵 I was surprised how much I enjoyed it - you can never tell with these runs of ours can you? 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

How beautifully written. Thank you for sharing. A really emotional and meaningful visit.

Well done today for striving and achieving. Your day will feel better now for completing it 😊

Aww thanks so much Hidden . It was definitely very emotional, but joyous all at once. Mum and Dad are reunited and that felt special. My run today felt effortless despite the discomfort of the humidity, so maybe they were thanking me somehow? Who knows? 🥰

I don't know Dartmoor well Cheeky, having only been there once (it was beautifully wild, I remember) but that sounds like a very special trip to me.💕

Well done on your run and yoga session too!🙂

Thanks Sandraj39 . Oh yes, Dartmoor is definitely wild. The winter months are brutal, but it still has a beauty about it. ❤️

The run and 2 yoga sessions (had to catch up on the monthly calendar!) felt fabulous and now I’m ready to tackle the day guilt free! 😀 🧘‍♀️ 🏃‍♀️

Sounds like a very special break CC. For once I think we have the best of the running weather up here; cloudy skies, 16C and a gentle ENE breeze coming off the sea. Not sure where to start now; exercises, Molly grooming, risk assessment rehash?.....maybe just a cup of coffee and a period of reflection first, it doesn't do to let guilt take over does it?🙂

Thanks BC, it was lovely and couldn’t have gone any better in Devon. 🥰

I think the latter for you. Think about what your day will look like over a lovely coffee. Then you’ll be set up! 😀 No guilt required. ☕️

Molly has the best idea; spark out and breathing contentedly. Would be a crime to disturb her. Mrs BC is using the PC, so that leaves exercises....after coffee, I am sure some caffeine will help.

Oh yes it’s all pointing towards coffee first, so you’ll have more oomph to exercise. Sorted! 😀

Aww Fab, thanks so much. We couldn’t have had better weather if we’d have tried, we were so lucky. 😍🥰❤️

The run was an unexpected treat. I wasn’t really looking forward to it, but it was perfect! Happy running to you. 😘

Sounds like that run was just what you needed Cheeky.

Glad you achieved what you were hoping for in Dartmoor. Also whatever's on that plate looks very intriguing!

It really was Jonathan, although it didn’t appeal much beforehand as it was already so humid at 7am. 🥵 Odd how things work out sometimes, I loved every moment! 🏃‍♀️

Dartmoor was kind to us. We’d have scattered the ashes anyway, but doing it in such perfect weather conditions made it much easier. 🥰

Oh, the item on the plate was a chocolate mousse with a hint of orange and gold leaf. We had high tea on our arrival down there, and almost needed a winch to get us out of our seats! 😅

It's possible to run in anything and enjoy it, isn't it cheekychipmunks - you just need to adapt to whatever is being thrown at you. Well done! Glad you enjoyed your trip, a very special one 💗

Too true linda9389 . Often the least likely runs end up surprising us no matter what the conditions (and less often the other way round I guess!) 😀

Yes, a lovely poignant trip. We loved it, thank you. 💕

Dartmoor in golden sunshine! The weather gods knew you had a special purpose for your visit. How wonderful to reunite your parents in this way and have a special place to come and walk and remember.

I don't blame you for not taking your running shoes - I've only ever hiked and ridden on Dartmoor and wouldn't want to run with all those gloopy hidden swampy patches. Afternoon tea looked delish though (Two Bridges?) - Glad you got straight back to running it all off by your lovely canal.

Happy summer runnings, Cheeky. 🙂🤗

cheekychipmunksHalf Marathon in reply to Slinkymalinki

Aww thanks Slinky! You clearly know Dartmoor well 😅😅 We commented we’ve never seen it looking so beautiful. Almost unheard of having weather like that over consecutive days! Those bogs can spring up on you no matter how dry the footing might appear at first can’t they? We once did a “short cut” back to the car after a long hike. We’ve never been so scared in our lives, the sound of gushing water under the sudden springy ground! And our dog was with us too, bounding and bouncing around! Lesson learned ....... 😩

We had tea at Gidleigh Park in Chagford. It’s special to us - we celebrated our 30th anniversary there a couple of years ago and also my birthday back in January. Bit (a lot) pricey, but worth it every so often. We always stay in Postbridge though - it’s where my Dad grew up. ❤️

I must admit to referencing running a few times on our walks - the footing was perfect in places and I had a hankering! You know how it goes! 🏃‍♀️😅

The run yesterday was perfect. It feels even more humid today so I’m glad I did it.

Happy running to you too! 😘
