I will post WEEKLY (Tuesday) updates, and put all the results into my spreadsheet (calculating the changes in your running/jumping times from Week 1 in seconds) which you can view here:
Hiya, I did my fastest 5k yesterday and the segment I am using for this speed challenge is within it. That result was very good also with a time of 16.08 minutes for a 2.09 km challenge. So a good reduction from the previous time which I did a couple of weeks ago I think.
Very pleased with my efforts - not sure I could go faster though in the final two weeks of the challenge? That will be my challenge!!
I did run my speed challenge route yesterday, but as it was as the 13th k of a 13k run (i.e. 2.6 parkruns) I'm not going to record the time for your purposes - and given that was the first time I've run over 10k since October, I'll be taking 2 days off before doing my week 4 run on Thursday. Hopefully the weather will be kind ……..
Hi roseabi. I am slightly embarrassed! I set out today for 5k, but found that I was going to be running through the minute's silence for the NHS...which is probably ok, but I wanted to stop! So I had to pick up pace in the second 1k so I could pause at 11am. I did it, but 1k time was 5:33, only 2 seconds off my week 1 PB! So that is my week 4 time! It was stupid, given I have been nursing my left knee since week 1, but I guess we all make mistakes when we make "in run" decisions and the adrenaline is flowing!I deserve to be disqualified for stupidity. Feels ok at the minute, but time will tell.🙄
Oh yeah, thanks Tbae! I think I'm a bit behind with that anyway 😊
I will probably make a separate graph for you outliers btw - there are a lot of runners this time and it's difficult to see everyone's data on the graph.
Yes, I was far from disappointed to be honest. It didn't seem in the least likely that I would be able to improve every week. Without the challenge there's no way I would be running this pace over this distance, so it's all success. Thank you 😍
I love this challenge as it’s made me run faster than I ever thought I could and I’m not sure I can go much faster. But I’ll give it a try tomorrow but I will not be wearing my speedy shoes as it’s too wet and they’re too precious 😂 so I will expect to be at least 4% slower. 😂
Hi abi my time for last week was 8:23 (for a mile) so I seem to be getting slower rather than faster! I’ve had a week off this week then will give it one last try next week 😊
I did my 2.6 challenge at the weekend and ran 2 laps of my estate (1km) every hour for 6 hours. Kept moving by walking and gardening in between so muscles didn’t cool down too much.
My first trip out took me 5:53 and my last took me 5:17 so I was well happy. Unfortunately this is not my 1km route for this challenge and instead that is part of my 5km route so will aim to record this weeks speed challenge on Thursday or Friday.
500 posts is a lot of posts! I may do mine later in the week. I've learned from last week not to attempt short speed right after a 25k trail run Perhaps tomorrow or Wed. I have doubts I will improve but we'll see. On the plus side I am at just under 250k this month which is my highest mileage so far. Its for a virtual event with a local run group
It was a fun way to stay occupied for a short while Tbae. I suspect they are doing something similar for May.
Hi roseabi! I ran 6.1km on my treadmill yesterday as it was raining all day. However it was late on in the morning as I didn’t want to miss the minutes silence for the NHS .
Anyway I did it but still prefer to run early in the morning.🤗🤗x
Hum ! I think I have entered into the wrong challenge room. I thought I had signed up to do this and now me thinks I didn’t 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Sorry ! bye🤫😯.........
Hi! You didn't sign up for this challenge, but you can still do it if you like! We have two weeks left so there's just time for you to run a fast 1 km this week and try to beat your time next week. Are you in?
Hi again.. no photograph taking today ... a quick ?? short one..murky, misty and mainly devoid of all except three runners...
I am logging this as my fourth week... ...6.46...that is more like it...
...and at last the legs feel as if they are running again. Now I am feeling a tad happier about heading out I have even signed u for the May 5K Challenge on Strava.
Hi Roseabi, well done on your 500th post. I'm etching closer to under the 5.30 mark today my best 1km time was 5.35 hopefully I will get there before the challenge is over. 👍
Warm-up sort of OK, but not feeling really up for the challenge. Into flying k, didn't feel too bad but watch suggested slightly off the pace initially, so pushed a bit ….. and ran out of gas and legs at 400m. Walked home …….
Moral of story, 13k and Speed Challenge in same week not good idea.
Onwards and upwards, awaiting next Speed Challenge
500 posts must mean you’re at least my age or more. Today’s speedy km was 5’ 37”. Really pleased with that. I paced myself a bit better so didn’t die before the end. Maybe I will go all out next week🥵
Standing start 38 seconds Abi.Stuck with same route.
Going to work on this the rest of this week and next for week 5.
Looking for the 36 seconds or better.Just want to know what a 3 min/km pace would feel like.Only way I will ever do that is to crunch it in 5 bites.🙈🤣🤣
Strangely I found by taking monster interim inhales it helped.🤔
I may not make an entry this week, been a bit under the weather so have had to keep my runs slow and gentle...may have a go Sunday if I'm up for it, if not there's still next week 👍
Congratulations and thanks for your 500th post roseabi!! Although I had low expectations, somehow I managed to achieve a new pb for my 1km run this morning - 3.51. I gave it everything and had to dodge a car that pulled out in front of me mid run that unsettled my rhythm, so very happy with that result.
I blame my Zoom cocktail evening with Shake-and-run for a miserable 5.36 as part of my virtual parkrun of 30.46 this morning ☹️ Feel rather less sluggish now though and it is a beautiful morning 🌞
Hi roseabi, did my fast 1k yesterday. It was a bit pants I’m afraid.
I’d had a funny tummy before we went out but I was doing ok. However, when we got to the section where I speed up there was a headwind blasting pollen and dust into my face! Very annoying. Managed 5.26 in the end - I’m going backwards 😫 Maybe next week...
Tried to improve my 1K time this morning, but couldn't do it. Attempted it on the third km of run, set off way too fast, that did give me a 400m PB but couldn't keep it up, so had to bail out. Lessons to learn, try a flatter route, try a more even pace, don't do it the day after a fast 10k, quite a lot of booze and quite a lot of food!
Hi Abi, me again … I managed a 4'32" final k doing a virtual parkrun this morning, so perhaps you can stick that down as my week 4 time - at least I should be able to improve on that in week 5
