Did my first 10K today after my extended time on the IC. It was the slowest 10K I've ever done but at least I can still run that distance.
I followed the same training plan as before but with some power walking thrown in. Basically, extend my long run each week and put a couple of 5Ks and some power walking in the rest of the week.
Not sure where to go from here so I'll probably just keep adding distance. For now, my pulse is supposed to stay below 130 BPM so there's not much scope for speeding up.

Well done on that 10k! Feels great when you can get back to that when you’ve been in the IC. I’m in the same position, now at the end of a 2 month recovery programme, and now steadily increasing volume, just a few miles more each week, now running 6 days a week.
I’ve found adding elevation and sticking to trails a helpful challenge, as it strengthens my calves, ankles etc., which is the bit that was injured from overuse, trying to run too far too soon on flat roads.
Trails are also quieter than roads, with fewer runners / pedestrians/ dog walkers to avoid.
Yay! A nice milestone to revisit. I think I'd get very frustrated by the 130bpm too but at least you can keep adding distance. 10 miles next? Not the best time to be trying for long slow runs sadly, hope you're managing to find some nice quiet routes.
Plenty of nice quiet roads thanks. I'm learning the bottlenecks and how to avoid them.
Not sure what to work on now, I'll probably just keep nudging up the distance and maybe a touch of speed. Without pushing it, I've already shaved 5 minutes off my 5k.
