...ELITE runners... I thought of us all when I read this ....and thought it may help to pass a little time, those of us who may have extra time on our hands...it may be nice tor read how some of our peers are handling things:)

womensrunning.com/culture/s...

Mr OF and I start our 12 week holiday, ( Isolation) tomorrow :) I decided that sounded so much more attractive:)

We have so many lovely things planned .. and I have plenty of time too, to run as often as I am able. On an actual real-live getaway holiday, I need to build it as we do other things ..but on THIS holiday... wow!

New schedule of running and exercises is being formatted... gardening... painting... writing.... reading.... walking and cycling as long as permitted in HUGE open spaces or across or our fields...cooking and baking days... and oh yes, some necessary basic maintenance and housework in the holiday home( Ours) :)

Lots of great and useful ideas on the forums too , all the official advice links and including the one roseabi put up yesterday...

healthunlocked.com/marathon...

I have, as many of have joined the group... so yet another distraction to while away some hours by the ....? Oops.. I don't have a pool !

Hmmm.. maybe another holiday project:)

Hope everyone is settling into new routines, all those working at home and those with young people at home too for the duration and any other... 12 week holiday makers:)

Stay safe, stay well and stay running everyone:)

Love Flossx

I think the word your looking for is "stay-cation" :D

It's great that you have time to get in what you need before it happens - buy bulbs, art supplies, etc.

I am thanking the lord for amazon delivery at the moment - they are saving our sanity :D

I hope it's sunny and that spending time in the garden really feels like a holiday

I have a Walton’s one. My husband got it for me when we lost our old Jack Russell. I was heart broken so he got it for me as a distraction

Be sure to peel off the plastic coating off the windows before putting it up. The roof ones that is. ! My husband didn’t It’s still on as I couldn’t get it off retrospectively as I can’t blooming reach even off a ladder.

He’s bought me a second hand Hartley one since, which is a beauty 🥰

Have fun 😃👍

Growing up we regularly had staycation in our garden. We wore swimsuits and took photos The long wait for them to be developed - remember that. Only to find that many of them hadn’t “turned out” ☹️ Of course the sun shone every day 😁. We had no garden furniture so we’d haul out the arm chairs 😁. The dog’s one was the favourite 🙂

Or we used to take a picnic and disappear for the day My fave Sarni was philly with tomato sauce on Wonderloaf. Water was the only option to drink

Yes thanks Floss.

Love the holiday description.❤️

Count our blessings.

I am boring, so tbh not any different.🤔🙈🤣

Biggest decision is where to go for Easter holidays, joke, whether to choose the lounge or the bedroom.🙈🤣

Stay safe 👩‍❤️‍👨

My husband likes to self isolate in his snug. He’s treated himself to a reclining sofa where he falls asleep in front of the telly post hard day at work 😃. We have a conservatory as well where he has another recliner, and he’s building a man cave in the garden - when he has time.

When I moved into our current house there was a section of garden effectively cut off by the previous owner. Strangely it was in the centre. In the jungle of unkempt trees and brambles were two end to end aluminium greenhouses I cleared out the mess over weeks and months, including the biggest live wasp nest. I had to stay away as it was too dangerous for a time. There was not too much broken glass and i had the local window folks come in to sort it Wd40 and some jeyes fluids and they’ve been in use ever since. An engine house of production 😋🥗🌶🥒🍅🍆

Well done.What a find.👍👏👏❤️

My gardening days are over, except for the usual routine jobs.At least after I get this garden to sign up to my trotting routine.Even got a contingency plan,no signature, new owner.🙈🤔🤣🤣

Still going to work here, and trying to finish as many contracts as possible. Minimal interaction with the public so safe as it can probably get, and people need their house walls, chimneys, exterior steps etc fixed. We are however taking separate vehicles for the first time ever, usually that would be a PITA but there are so few on the roads now traffic is no problem.

We will be shut down soon I fully expect. If not by order, with so many being put out of work there won't be many able to afford us as they realise this virus isn't going away anytime soon and savings run low or disappear. We do mostly "high end" jobs so hopefully will be able to keep working longer than the poor blighters in the minimum wage jobs have.

Grim times and counting my blessings gratefully.

One thing I'm grateful for is I'm old enough to have lived through hard times before so have stayed out of debt as much as possible and saved a bit for the rainy day. A lot of younger people literally seem to have had no concept of this and when you hear someone who was on $300 a DAY complain their "savings" lasted "less than a week" - well, to me that makes me wonder just how bad things are going to get. (BTW - they didn't work at our job, $300 a day would be nice though lol)

However, hard times come and go. Best focus on what one has power over and that squeezes out worrying too much about what one cannot do anything about.

I'm helping out with some neighbors by checking around seeing if the elderly living alone need help, and as for when home - lots of books lined up and God knows there are numerous things need fixing on the house :)

Previous generations survived much worse. Present generations in some nations live with food, health, employment etc Insecurity EVERY day. Life on life's terms sucks sometimes but last thing I want to do is add an additional and unnecessary "suckiness" to it :)

And the toilet paper hoarders? God help them if it was a Dysentery epidemic - TP wouldn't save their sorry bums from that either 🙄

Every day is a gift, and while it could always be worse it's more fun to see how it can be better - and then make it so :)

Stay safe and good y'all, "keep calm and run on" :)

Great stuff John..you take great care of yourself my friend...it is amazing how may jobs we see around the house and now we have time to do them.. ! Keep posting and post your runs too... that photo in your last post... so evocative !!

Irish-John profile image
Irish-JohnMarathon in reply to Oldfloss

LOL - just heard today, we are going on lockdown here in this part of the world, HOWEVER...my job is classed as "Essential" so will be exempt.

We work on chimneys a lot, and they "cannot be neglected due to the risk that production and/or the safety of the public/facilities would be threatened"

I guess my own house will have to wait all the repairs I was going to do during the "Great Sequestering" lol

But - will make time for running, and will be allowed to do that as long as one runs alone :)

I have been in the garden all day, moving sheds and plotting planting things!

What a lovely early birthday present. A great way to spend your time at home.

Everyday is a change in how we’re doing things. We were put in a state of emergency on Wednesday and then they tightened the regulations even more yesterday. Veterinarians are still considered an essential service so I am working but we’ve really changed how we are interacting with the public. I have this weekend off so am enjoying my time at home, not having to worry about dealing with people. Because there are people refusing to self-isolate after international travel, the government now mandated mandatory self isolation followed by a hefty fine if you don’t comply. Hopefully that will help.

I am getting my runs in and really enjoyed today’s run. There were some nice messages written on chalk in the pathway. Maybe I’ll have to put a post up about it. It warmed my heart to see it. There were lots of people taking advantage of the nice day but we were all keeping our distance from each other.

We’re just trying to stay mentally healthy right now. I’m in my final week of an 8 week online mindful meditation course and the timing couldn’t be better. They are doing a special 2 hour online retreat tomorrow that I will be participating in. It has been helping to keep me grounded. That and running has been my salvation. I am fortunate that I can still run right now.

Do take care of yourself and enjoy that gorgeous greenhouse!

Thankyou for that lovely post and also for your encouragement over the 2 years or so since I started running. 70? Ah just a girl really! Am just coming back from injury and had a lovely run this afternoon. 5K almost all offroad, saw a couple of people a 100m or so away, so distancing rules obeyed. We live in a beautiful country. I firmly believe that whilst we hear of a lot of bad behaviour, that these tough times will bring out some of the very best in people.

Stay safe and keep running!

Ooh great news that your greenhouse is up and ready for action Floss! Plenty of jobs to keep you busy, and exercising in the fresh air potting and gardening. I want one!😏

It's good that you can still go for runs, no need to go out too far, those runs can wait.

Thinking of you enjoying your new gift, maybe a few snail shells could decorate the window ledges....but no snails on your baby plants!

Thinking of you and Mr OF🍅😊xxx

Well.......

I feel your pain. I just got back up to speed after being laid up. Last week I ran 25kms, over several days, my best weekly total ever and I took 9 mins of my 10k time. Really been looking forward to next week.

Then.

Got notice of enforced curfew starting at midnight tonight. Food shopping only, there and back then in house lockdown. I am just wondering if I can run to shop!

Have no idea what I am going to do. The word not on the street is it is going to be heavily enforced police and possibly military.

I am not based in the UK.
