Vitality Running World Cup – just 7 days to go, are you ready for March 5th? πŸ†

I should just say, I don't have any inside information and have nothing to do with Vitality, these are points we discovered and discussed in comments on earlier posts and I thought they may prove helpful πŸ‘

If you haven’t signed up yet, but would like to represent your country for free, there is still time!

For anyone who has signed up already, it is worth checking now that everything is set up correctly (the last two β€˜checking’ points below) – depending on your privacy settings, you may find none of your runs are going to be counted!

β˜… Signing up

You can find out more and register here runningworldcup.com/?ref=o4...

You can choose to register with your full real name, or you can use your forum name (or a variant of it, so long as you enter something into both First and Last name). The VRWC support team have confirmed that forum names are OK, despite what it says on the registration screen!

β˜… Joining the HU team

Once you have registered you can join the HU team which Sparkey5000 has kindly set up. You can join the HU team by following this link app.runningworldcup.com/tea...

You will be added to the team with whatever name you registered with 😊

For anyone who has already signed up but would like to change their name to reflect their HU name, you can do so by editing your profile via this link app.runningworldcup.com/pro...

β˜… Do check you really have joined the HU team!

I suggest you double check that your name appears on the HU team member list (a few people have had problems and had to try more than once). To check, either use this link app.runningworldcup.com/teams or click on β€˜Teams’ on the left hand side of the website when you are signed into your account. HU should show, and if you click on members you should be able to see your name listed.

β˜… Do check your runs are being picked up!

The final point I wanted to make is about the run trackers. Although runs don’t β€˜count’ towards the challenge until 5th March, if you have successfully linked your tracker you should already be able to see your runs when you use this link app.runningworldcup.com/runs or click on β€˜My runs’ on the left hand side of the website. Lots of people have had problems with their runs not showing, even though they believed they had successfully linked their tracker (strava, garmin, fitbit, etc.).

Firstly, you should see each of the trackers you have linked. If this isn’t as you expect, then something has gone wrong – most likely the sign in details you input when trying to link the tracker (note, this has nothing to do with the details you used to register, it is based on the sign in details you supply when you try to link the tracker).

Secondly, if you click on the tracker(s) listed, you should be able to see all runs registered by that tracker since you linked that tracker (and even further back in the case of Strava). If you can’t, then for some reason the VRWC system has not got access to your activities, despite having successfully signed into your tracker account. So far, all the instances we have looked at have arisen because of tight privacy options in the tracker. In my case, Strava was fine because I have pretty loose security, but nothing was being picked up from my Garmin; however, once I changed my Garmin privacy options my subsequent runs started to show (note, it doesn’t apply retrospectively which is why it is important to sort this before the qualifying period begins on 5th March).

Happy Running Everyone - Go Team HU!!'

Oh dear, one run tracked on Garmin, but not my latest one. Tried connecting Strava and just got an error!

linda9389AdministratorMarathonβ€’ in reply toSueKen

Interesting that one Garmin run is on there but not a more recent one! Is it very recent? Maybe there is a delay before it updates? Strava should link OK if you have the right sign in details, other than that I'm not sure! They aren't making it easy!!!

Monday’s run has tracked, but not yesterday morning. Ho hum!

linda9389 profile image
linda9389AdministratorMarathonβ€’ in reply toSueKen

Is it showing yet by any chance? Other Vitality systems talk about it might take 48 hours for activities to feed through. This Vitality system has definitely been having all sorts of problems in the last 24 hours.

linda9389AdministratorMarathonβ€’ in reply toSueKen

I just did two fake runs again, and both are showed up in the garmin tracker immediately. Were both your runs outdoors?

SueKen profile image
SueKenHalf Marathonβ€’ in reply tolinda9389

So, I’ve just been fiddling. I deauthorised both Garmin and Strava then just added Strava back in. The error message had gone and all my runs are now showing up. Yay!

linda9389 profile image
linda9389AdministratorMarathonβ€’ in reply toSueKen

Fab. When Strava can be linked OK, it does seem to be the most reliable - and also the easiest to check too!

I also got error on strava so used my watch which is a fitbit. It didnt work at first so i went on a computer, disinstalled and reinstalled

linda9389 profile image
linda9389AdministratorMarathonβ€’ in reply toCouchpotato2

I think their system is a bit up and down!

linda9389 profile image
linda9389AdministratorMarathonβ€’ in reply toSueKen

Alissum has also commented that not all her runs were showing up through Garmin. She has changed to using Strava as her tracker and that seems OK. Is that an option for you (I record all my runs on Garmin, but already had Garmin linked to send activities to Strava automatically, so it's just as easy for me to use Strava)? or Mapmyrun?

Just joined they HU group! Feel a bit like the odd one out - only non-UK flag there so far :P

Hi motherduckling I live in New Zealand, but am running for the UK where all my VRB’s are.

Fair enough :) I think Ill stick with running for NZ though (even though I live in Aus - that was a tough decision), I feel like they probably need the support more than the UK does :)

Well I can’t access the website or app, could be they are a victim of their own success and has crashed.

I am still having problems with the app (oops 500), but the website seems OK now

My name is on the team, I have connected with Mapmyrun, I don't have a watch, I am wondering if that is enough to go on by.

Granspeed profile image
Granspeedβ€’ in reply toAlMorr

I hope so, AlMorr. I have a watch but never link it to any social media. I am trying Strava. I don’t think they would expect everyone to have a watch - that would be too limiting. 😊

linda9389 profile image
linda9389AdministratorMarathonβ€’ in reply toAlMorr

Yes it should be enough. If you have linked mapmyrun, successfully, you should be able to check your runs are showing, as detailed in the last point in this post

Thank you Linda

Just double check to be sure!

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrHalf Marathonβ€’ in reply toAlMorr

PS, just noticed on that VRWC app that the runs I have ran and saved from Mapmyrun are already on the app as far back as July 17 last year.

linda9389 profile image
linda9389AdministratorMarathonβ€’ in reply toAlMorr

It did the same for me. When I linked strava it went back a couple of weeks. When I linked garmin it only looked forwards, not back. I'm pretty certain that they won't 'count' these earlier runs, but it does give you peace of mind that your tracker is all linked successfully! If your name appeara in the team list too, then you're all good to go and shouldn't have to do anything else besides run during the allotted dates!

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrHalf Marathonβ€’ in reply tolinda9389

The list gives the date American style, year, month and day, the time of day I ran but not the actual time I ran it in, its good to know that the tracker is linked and my name does appear in the team list.

Like others, I’m on the team (yay!), but I get an Error 500 β€œWhoops, something went wrong” message when I try to check my runs on Strava. So I don’t know! πŸ˜©πŸ˜…πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Hopefully it's temporary. I'm getting the same, whereas it worked OK the other night!

Were you doing it via the app or via the website? I still get the oops 500 on the app, but not on the website. I just successfully added Garmin and Mapmyrun and Strava via the website

I’ll have another go later on. I’m a bit computered out at the moment, trying to reschedule next week’s flights for later in the year. Nothing’s ever simple! πŸ™„πŸ™„πŸ™„

I have Garmin Connect sync with Strava and Strava connected to VRWC and it all seems to be working fine. All my runs for Feb are showing, so here's hoping.

Now just waiting for my T-shirt to be delivered.

Excellent. I do the same and am leaving both trackers linked to maximise the chance of it all working!
