Ahh, unlucky. I didn't apply so definitely won't be in! Is it a one-off ballot or do they do a second round after a response period for this round? Else a charity place?

I'm actually kind of happy... I registered for the Cardiff HM but a friend wanted to do this one and convinced me to enter the ballot. I was regretting it already so problem solved :)

This particular race, the Great North Run seems to have a very high rate of runner's who apply but "chicken out" before starting.

Last year 57,000 applied to run, but on the day the commentator on BBC 1 told us that 42,000 began the race, he also told us that 'several thousand' had not even made it to the Tyne Bridge which is less than 5K from the start, I really do wonder why the GNR has such a high amount of runners applying but not running or giving up so soon into the run.

I don't think 'chicken out' is the only reason! 😄😄😄

Many won't even have done training courses like C25K and realise that just to go out and run anything longer than 1K needs training, nevertheless for 15,000 people to decide not to run is an awful lot, there must be many proper runners flustrated who were unlucky in the ballot to see so many people not taking part whereas they could have been running feel so disappointed.

Um, injury?

I think many "proper runners" may choose to steer clear of the GNR (and the London Marathon for that matter) and go for one of the other many other wonderful events available in this country, many of which which are a good deal less crowded so they can run "properly" 😉
