Long story short, we’re waiting for the boiler guys again and we have no hot water. So the thought of running any distance with no bath or shower wasn’t an option today and I headed for the gym again.
I’d planned 10k. Double my longest distance on the treadmill, but I said on here yesterday that I’d do it, and once it’s on here, in my book it’s the law! 👮♀️
Got my tunes set up, set it nice and slow with a little incline and got going. I was wearing my husband’s Vivoactive 3 (Forerunner has frozen 😱 - noo!) and the new one’s clearly not calibrated properly as I had to run 11.73k before it pinged 10k! 😳 Still I did it, and dripping with proud sweat I hopped off to wipe it down. 👍
I was greeted by an elderly gentleman who I assumed was going to say “wow that was a good workout, well done”, or something friendly like that. But no. I was roundly told off. I’d taken too long and he wanted to use the treadmill. Well hello, there are 2, and the other wasn’t being used the whole time I was there. I apologised rather too profusely (I pay good money for that gym), and he slunk away.
I’ve since spoken to the gym manager who said I had every right to use it for as long as I wanted as “the gym isn’t used enough as it is”. He’d already received a complaint from the (gentle)man who was an owner of one of the apartments there, but he was completely on my side and he’s going to sweet talk the chap.
So, mega treadmill run complete, but my balloon was burst somewhat.
Never mind, it’s sunny today. Makes a change round these parts! ☀️

Oh Munks thats brilliant! Well done you 👏👏 The most I’ve run on a treadmill is 8K and I just couldn't do any more so hats off to you for covering that distance!

He really is one isn’t he IP? There’s only one rowing machine, for example. He’s often on it (using it incorrectly as my husband points out) - what if I want to use it while he’s on it one day? I’ll lodge a formal complaint! What a miserable so-and-so!
Anyway I won’t be doing that again any time soon. It is good for me getting out of my heat comfort zone though. 🥵 👍
Pity you didn't say to him when you stopped that you were only at the half way point and needed a pee break. It would have been worth it to see his face 😂
Ah the (gentle??)man in question is clearly not a proper runner, and needs a lesson in manners! Isn't it funny though how we revert to apologising just for taking up space and breathing communal air, rather than risk offending people. Even those who are clearly in need of a good talking to!

Blimey, we’ll done, I’d really struggle to do that on a dreadmill, and as for that person, (I’d hesitate to use the term ‘gentleman’) I’m not sure I’d have your self control.....cheeky wotsit! 😤
Thanks Madge! Ordinarily I wouldn’t attempt such a ridiculous distance on the treadmill, but today is long run day in my HM plan. I know 11.73k isn’t “long” in HM terms, but there’s no chance on earth I’d have gone for my planned 10 miles! The guy would have been apoplectic with rage! 😂 I’m a friendly person and assumed he was the same. Well silly me! 🙄
Good run for you today on the treadmill Cheeky, that "gentle" man thinks just because he lives there that he owns the gym, no way, just hope the weather improves a little before the gales of next week come and you can get outside for a run..
Thanks Al. Ironically the weather is beautiful for an outdoor run today, but as we have no hot water until the boiler guys show up, I was reluctant to do my planned 10 miles today. I need an Epsom Salts bath after a run of that length - so the gym it had to be. 🙄

Brilliant effort Cheeky, I don't think I could have done either (the treadmill or resisting biting back), so top marks from me. I might have said it must be frustrating, waiting so long when you only need it for 5 minutes 😊....but that would have been a bit rude 🤔. Hope the boiler is fixed soon!👍
Sorry your treadmill victory was grumped. People! Well done, great effort. You can use the showers at public baths without swimming you know. They normally just charge a couple of quid.
Well done Cheeky! The max I’ve ever managed on the dreadmill is 20 minutes. I just hate having the pace dictated to me! That guy certainly wasn’t a runner 😡
I agree about the pace thing Sandie, except for 10k (11k 😠), I needed to switch off and get it done, otherwise I’d never have lasted. That plus some bangin’ tunes! 🎶🎶
It is isn’t it Jonathan? I just wish I wasn’t so darned apologetic! The more I think about how rude he was, the more irritated I get, especially as he still lodged his pesky complaint even after I was polite to him. 😡

He really had no humour, and what made me especially cross was how he still lodged a complaint even after I’d grovelled and apologised in a friendly fashion, and assured him it wouldn’t happen again - flipping Norah, why did I even think I needed to say that? I now wish I’d have told him where he could stick the treadmill ...... 😳😅
So sorry about the boiler Cheeky- what a pain, especially at this time of the year! Glad you managed to achieve something though - but why are people so angry all the time? As you say, there was another machine he could have used and you’re both paying your fees! Grr - but well done you for being the bigger man (as it were)!! I’ve just spotted when you posted - hopefully by now you’re warm again!!
Came to this late, but still: well done on the treadmill and sorry about Mr Grump. After the fact it’s always easier to think of a reply, isn’t it? Save for next time, perhaps: “Oh dear, I didn’t realise the other one is out of order. There’s no sign - have you checked with the staff when it’s going to be fixed?” All accompanied by ones sweetest smile, of course. That always gets the grumps well furious!
