Hi everyone!

How was your past week? Did you get out running? Fuelled by chocolate? πŸ˜„

I'm not really a fan of New Year's resolutions, but I'm looking forward to the races I've booked for 2020, strong goals to get stronger for. My Brighton marathon plan starts today - slow 5K ftw 😊😊😊

What are your 2020 targets?

Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week. Please join in the discussion! If you're new or a lurker this is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.

Happy running and Happy New Year!

The Marathon team xx

Wow, some serious races there roseabi . πŸ‘Š A wonderful 2020 lies ahead for you! πŸŽ‰

So far I’m entered into the Bath Half in March - eeek, my first HM race ever 😳, the Bristol 10k at the beginning of May and the London Vitality 10000 at the end of May. The moment entries open on January 1st I’m also going to enter the Severn Bridge 10k which is held in August. I loved it this year even though it was held in 27 degree windless sunny conditions! πŸ₯΅ I’d go for the HM option, but apparently it’s has a notorious hill. Don’t mind hills, but not combined with a HM thank you very much! πŸ˜…

I also intend to get a bit quicker at 5k and 10k as well as doing some more PR tourism.

Happy new year everyone. πŸ˜€πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸŽ‰

Helloooooo.... I LOVE New Years resolutions and I always write them out and then review what I have achieved and what I havent. I havent planned all of them yet but I do a sort of quadrant with physical, mental and life type ones. It gives me a focus and drives me through the year to keep at it.... It will be my 50th year in 2020 and I am planning on doing 50 things that I havent done before.... I am really excited about this :)

roseabi profile image

Fair enough, each to their own 😊😊😊

How is it going with your list of 50 things?

I have got quite a few ideas from various people; I am going to have a suggestion box at work ( yikes!) and draw up a chart. It will be good to do some things that take me out of my comfort zone ( like giving blood... I always had a huge fear of the needles!)

Hi Roseabi, hopefully I’m over the illness I had before Christmas and I’ve done a couple of Parkruns🀞

I’m booked up for the London Winter Run 10K in Feb, Weymouth HM in March and Vitality London 10,000 in May. That’s it so far, but no doubt I’ll add some more as the year progresses!πŸ™‚πŸ‘

Other than that, I’m planning to drop down to a 4-day week now my mortgage etc is all repaid. That’s my main target for the year if I’m honest!😊 I might join a local running club too as I know some of them already from ParkrunπŸ™‚

Happy New Year everyone. Some great resolutions/goals here. Mine are to stick to the training plan on a huge white board in my kitchen, to get to the start line of the London Marathon uninjured and to cross the finish line in any state!

Wishing you all happiness and health. Thank you for being my go-to community for running talk, support and encouragement. xx

Sub 04:30:00 marathon and 01:55:00 half marathon. Lose 10kg. Cut down on the red wine and IPA (sob). Those 3 are clearly in the wrong order since the last delivers the second which will deliver the first! ☺

You are well planned up Roseabi. I’m taking it all in a much more relaxed style and have only entered the London vitality 10000 so far. Skiing in February/ March will disrupt running so I will see where I am when I come back before signing up for anymore. I loved Bristol and the New Forest last year and may go back, we’ll see. I have a giants causeway meet-up in October pencilled in the diary does we will see how that goes.

Most of all in 2020, I want to keep running for good health and fun. It will be great to have a few parkrun meet ups again when spring arrives.

I hoped to reach 600 miles in 2019 but I'm 23 short with 2 days to go so that won't be happening. It will become my 2020 target instead.

No events entered yet. Most likely candidate so far is the Rhayader run in March, the 5 mile not the long one, I think it's 30km. That would be a great challenge but I don't have time to train for it properly without it impacting family life, unless I can do some creative replanning of my week or win the lottery so I don't need to work....

All our Christmas guests have now left and once New Year is over it’s back to a regular routine which my body has missed! More wine/food/late nights than usual have played havoc with my running but hey ho, it’s only once a year 😏 I did manage to get out, mostly short runs, but I did squeeze in a long one last week. It’s back to proper training from tomorrow πŸ€—

I don’t do New Year Resolutions but I know what I want to do next year. I have a 10 mile race in February and the Bath HM in March after which I’d like to do another two HM’s. I just need to choose which ones πŸ€— so exciting!

I also need to get back to working on my arms. I’ve lost my lovely toned arms because I damaged my shoulder earlier this year which prevented me from working out and doing any weights ☹️ But come the warm weather I want to be able to show them off again πŸ’ͺ and maybe start all over with trying to master a pull-up!

I have loads of gardening plans (my other passion) and writing plans so I think I’ll be a bit busy πŸ™‚

Happy New Year everyone and here’s to a healthy, injury-free, joyous running 2020 for all of us πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸ™‚ xxx

Sounds brutal roseabi πŸ’ͺπŸ˜€

My number one resolution has to be to do all I can to remain uninjured, but that's always at odds with event bookings πŸ˜€πŸ€£. I've booked the London Winter 10k in Feb, Bath HM in March, 100k Ride the Night in May, Kew 10k in Sept and Oxford HM in Oct - let's hope I can make it to them all 🀞. Super pleased with my 5k and 10k times this month so don't imagine they will improve much in 2020 - instead I'd like to focus on some parkrun tourism whenever I can and just enjoy some 5k runs in new surroundings 😍. Here's to a happy and injury free New Year for us all, filled with fabulous runs πŸ₯‚

My new year's resolution is to get running again - at some point!! Still struggling with piriformis/hip issues, but new physio appointment booked for 3rd January so feeling a teensy bit hopeful that she will come up with something new to try that everyone else has missed!

HELLO GANG! Long time no speak! I've been rather poorly and offline out of the blue, but am back with a vengeance. Well, nearly...I'm back in spirit, and hope to get back into my running shoes in the next week or two!

My 2020 targets? I am starting from a bit of a standstill, but don't think it'll take me too long to get back up to half marathon distance. I've only one small 5k booked so far, but applications open for the big one soon...and following some discussion with my fellow running pal, it's going to be...drumroll...the Athens marathon! A big race for a big birthday. 😎 I'll keep you guessing as to which one!

Plans include more races and Park Runs this year. I seem to have slipped back into running on my own, probably as a result of focussing on hills and extending distance. So, once my calf twinge has cleared up, I need to get my act together! I have made a start; Vitality 10000 is booked and a trip wire put down for the GNR ballot. I want to do a 10 mile and a HM race this year, just a question of where. Happy 2020 every one.

2019 has been a decent year of running for me. Highlights were completing my first marathon, getting my hm down from 1:54 to 1:40, a 21m 5k, hitting 100 parkruns, and hiking the Yorkshire 3 peaks in under 10hours. I have 4 hm booked and a 20miler but need to get back in shape after this month... I would like to do an ultra either 2020 or 2021 we shall see...

To be sure, to be sure - I've already posted this in reply to damienair in B210K, but to make me truly accountable:

1: Sub-23 (by my watch) parkrun - last achieved with my parkrun PB (22'58") on 1 August 2015. 2019 best - 23'40" on 9 December.

2: Sub-50 10k - last (only) achieved (40'10") at the Julie Rose 10k, Ashford, Kent 12 October 1986. No 10k runs 1987-2018! 2019 best - 51'44" at New Forest 10k on 8 September. Maybe at the Vitality 10k in London?

3: Continue to resist temptation to enter New Forest HM. If fail, sub-2 hours.

And lots of parkrun tourism and VRB meetups, of course ….. that one at least is realistically achievable.

Onwards and upwards!!

My main 2020 target is to nail this HM distance once and for all! Wouldn’t mind breaking 27 minutes at parkrun and I could do with entering races other than the same ones I did this year!! Lots of VRB meet-ups on the cards though, so really looking forward to them. Firstly, I need to start my new job and see how much energy it leaves me with...

Katiepops profile image

Definitely MK half (it’s booked), I’m fishing around for another half later in the summer, the GSR in October and lots of 5 and 10k local stuff with my RC. My goal is to be comfortable at 13 - 18 miles by the end of the year ready to push on to marathon in 2021. My aim is to have fun!

Happy new year!xx

JonathanP profile image

My goals are very modest, particularly after my recent hamstring tear which was quite a shock to the system - keep running 3 times a week (5k, 10k and parkrun, including occasional VRB meet-ups), gently try for new PBs for each of those, and enjoy my running!

Sandie1961 profile image

Number 1 on my list to get through the Hampton Court HM in one piece. Monsal Trail 10k; thinking about London Vitality 10k (serious FOMO!); more VRB meet ups; sub 60 10k 🀞🏻I also need to find a 50k cycle ride with bling at the end to do with Shake-and-run

I have Brighton HM booked for February. Other than that: mid sussex marathon in May, New forest HM in Sep, Beachy Head HM in Oct and the Bexhill poppy run - which will be with my daughter (who will be 13) for the first time.

I have kept my routine up over Christmas with adjusted days here and there. Not sure for new year resolutions, but I have running targets and a degree to complete, other than that I start my new job on the 6th so a busy year.

Having completed the Marcothon December streak (wonderful if anyone fancies it next December: Floss did it this year too), I'm having the rest of this week off. I've been plagued with a residual chest infection and knee problem since Oxford half in October. The knee was caused earlier in the year and non running related. Marcothon was limited by the fact I can only run a few minutes without having to rest, so I did the minimum 25 minutes each day. My GP says I won't harm myself running with the chest thing - just got to have another X-ray at the end of the month. Very frustrating as I have the London Winter Run on 9th February so am hoping I'm fit again for that or it will be a slow race. Another 10k and a half later in the year. Roll on spring. and I hope all is ok with everyone.

My main goal of 2020 is to run the Bridgwater HM in Sept. I did the 5k race at the same event in 2019 as part of my C25K journey so the thought of going back 12 months later and running the HM is something I find really motivating :)

I have a few 10km races booked in, some trail and some road so looking forward to them too.
