I would image a few marathon runners will think that is true, I wonder if the first hell is 10K, the second 10 miles, sheer hell being the half marathon, utter hell, the "Wall " at 20 miles and at the end a banana, T shirt and no medal.

That's completely untrue. The only time I've been given a banana at the finish was at a 10K!
