Decided that for my long run ( 15Km) I would choose somewhere flat. A canal tow path should fit the bill I thought. So far so good BUT I did not check it out before hand. It was rather muddy and I had my trainers on! Still I'm here now! So off I went, some muddy bits ( about half of it) and some firm bits. Just took it carefully with no mishaps. TBH legs ached rather a lot afterwards and I suspect thats all the " slip sliding away" I did. So what have I learned? The stunningly obvious point is that if you're going to run somewhere new and you dont know what the surface will be like, then pack some trail shoes!

Haha, yes John I know what you mean. My long run route is a towpath which would be lethal without trail shoes. You’ll know next time! 😅
👍🏻😊 slip sliding is like running on sand, great for training ankles and calves 👍🏻
Well done🏃♂️
I'm not great with mud! My husband wants me to do a Tough Mudder, presumably so he can laugh at me 😂😂😂
Congrats on staying upright 🤣
Oh well these things happen. You had a good run and gave your calves a workout. The ankles and knees too I bet 😃👍
Ah yes, this has caught me out too as I 'just cut across the common' on a run. I found myself ankle-deep in mud last time. Trouble is, I hate running on the road in my trail shoes and I don't always want to have to choose at the start but then again being flat on my backside and stuck in the mud is not an ideal look.
