It was just parkrun. Nothing special. Huh who'm I kidding - it was bloomin' wonderful! It rained. It was muddy. It was cold. It was windy. It was wonderful! I didn't sleep at all well last night - with threats of cancellation the day before I kept listening to the weather; when I did sleep I was dreaming about a long distance drive in the snow 😍. The very lovely JaoJao and her mum were there today too, running and volunteering tourists respectively. JaoJao brought cake. Yummy, much appreciated. I enjoyed absolutely everything about this morning!

It was my first parkrun in ten whole months. It wasn't my fastest - but it wasn't my worst either - in fact it was pretty much bang on my average (and very similar to the same run 12 months ago), despite my having had best part of 5 months with no running at all this year 🙂

There have been many days where I doubted this would ever happen; to all of you currently wrestling with injury or lost mojo I send oodles of love and hope that you too experience the joy of your comeback runs very, very soon. Try to be patient. Take care everyone 😘xxx

That weather is horrid, it's the only reason I'm happy to be stuck in! I've folded up the treadmill and am about to turn the spare room into my exercise room ready for my CJ workouts once I figure out how to make the chromecast work on the old telly in there👍🏻🤣

Brilliant. Great plan and great attitude. No pity party for one for you - hang on in there with CJ 😍. Once you're mended the running will feel better than ever, well worth waiting for 🙂

That's lovely to hear Linda, some things are worth waiting for! I'm still lounging around on the IC (11 weeks since my last run ☹) but busy now with new set of exercises and some orthotics from a podiatrist. Hope I can join you in the jubilation in the not too distant future!

It was wonderful! I did nothing else sll day. I was exhausted from the emotion of it all - which is a bit weird but it's been a long road 😍

Really pleased to see that you are back- that after such a protracted lay off, you haven't lost the joy. (Just be careful and don't do too much!) Well done :)

Thanks Helen. I will try to be sensible - although yesterday was meant to be more cautious😀. I have a plan to 10k for 7th Dec which has been booked for months. It's a bit tight but hopefully ok. Then a plan to a HM in March. Let's see how far I can get through that lot 🤞

Love this! 👏👏👏 I don’t know where I’d be without parkrun, if I’m honest...

linda9389 profile image
linda9389AdministratorMarathon in reply to Colinsmith

Parkrun's not been huge for me so far - hasn't fit in well with other training. I had hoped to focus on parkrun over the summer but 'best laid plans'and all that, so this was only my 7th one, but it was the best and most rewarding by a million miles 😍

Colinsmith profile image
ColinsmithHalf Marathon in reply to linda9389

I think it’s mostly the structure that it gives to my running week (with it usually being my fast run unless I’m pacing), but also to my week in general. I know what I’ll be doing at 9am on a Saturday; it gets me up and the weekend started; encourages me to drink sensibly if at all on a Friday night. It fits in with my family’s plans (as long as I don’t wake them too early clattering around getting ready 😊) but is ‘Dad’s thing’.

Also, I suppose I’m not the most sociable runner so I haven’t loads of friends at my home run, but there’s a few people I chat to, and I enjoy seeing the regular faces anyway. I’ve only missed 3 this year I think... and I probably sulked all the following week!

So a round of applause for all regular parkrun volunteers. 👏👏👏 Particularly the Marshall in the inflatable duck costume at Pymmes yesterday who danced very enthusiastically in the wind and rain as we all plodded past. 😄 It’s a wonderful thing.

I've volunteered more times than I've run - but never in costume 🤣🤣🤣

It was a pleasure to share in your return to running yesterday morning. I can't believe you didn't want to use your parkrun pic for this post ;) it's a beauty x

It was in the back of my mind for ages afterwards, and any shin twinge made me worried. I kept up the exercises for ages afterwards. I ought to be doing them still as i've had niggly calves lately

Your cycling will be good at keeping your leg strength healthy

Have fun with your way back into running. All your old haunts to re-discover, which should be fun

linda9389 profile image
linda9389AdministratorMarathon in reply to misswobble

You are definitely a beacon of hope - you do so much mileage and challenging terrain! I'm doing a foot mobility/strength routine religiously every day at the moment ... but how long I keep it up remains to be seen 😂

misswobble profile image
misswobbleMarathon

It's a good idea to keep doing it. Your cycling will help strengthen everything as well. The trails and hills are good for toughening things up generally, you can feel your ankles being worked constantly. Soft mud is quite a good surface as it means you slow things down and the strain is less than on concrete or Tarmac so means less hammering of the shins and calves I like trail running also because there's the leaf fall and pine needles which make for a gentler run
