End of sweet September

End September on a high note with slow recovery run of 5.5km after yesterday's half marathon - great Scottish run(my first HM πŸ˜ƒ).

This September was a record breaking month for me clocking total of 210.6km for 26 number of run, over 25 hour of running activities.

Today I thought I will rest after running HM yesterday, but while coming back from office I was feeling stiffness in thigh muscles so decided to go for a short jog/walk but end up running 5.5km. now feeling better. Plan is to run shorter distance for next 5-8 days with slow pace before going back to my longer routine. Hopefully everything will go as planned.

Congratulations on a great month! Yes a short recovery run really helps to loosen up the muscles and joints after a long run sometimes. Enjoy your break, you have definitely earned it :)

Thanks πŸ˜ƒ. Yes recovery run really helped a lot. While I was reading about rest or no workout/running, one of my friend (who ran 3-4 marathon and number of HM) suggested to go for slow jog to ease out pain areas/stiffness - provided I am feeling comfortable and not much pain/swelling on leg. Surprisingly (though I know because of my regular run) I am not in pain, no swelling at all, only lil more tiredness compare to regular run plus sweet pain on outer thigh muscles.

Yes that is exactly the advice I got from experienced runners in our group. Good that you are not feeling too much pain after the race too. A hot shower and rolling does also my legs good after a hard run.

Oh well done JR. Both on your HM and your 5.5k. That’s interesting to hear you did that. I ran my first ever HM distance a few weeks ago - not a race - and the next day my quads were really feeling it. Everything else felt fine. I did a yoga stretch session, but I now wonder whether a little trot out would have worked too. Something to consider next time. πŸ˜€

Thanks πŸ˜ƒ

That's an amazing monthly distance. I wasnt quite at that monthly distance during marathon training earlier this year.

I made few changes to my running.

I stopped trying to increase my pace, just trying to be consistent and regular with distance. Got a good advice from a friend - we are not going to be a professional runner, we are just trying to keep ourself healthy and fit, so don't go for pace, just run regular and consistently. Pace will come automatically with time, when our body become comfortable with distance and duration.

Sounds like great advice!
