Well I am back from my holiday in Edinburgh. Had a great week even managed two runs. I said in my previous post that I was going to think about whether to still do the marathon and possibly swap to the 10 mile race at mile 5 depending on the time or just do the 10mile. Apparently my marathon entry is still active which has complicated my decision. If it wasn't then I would be doing the 10 mile race. I am still undecided and the major issue is that with the first two options I risk going home without any bling yet if I do the 10 mile race I definitely go home with bling. I am aware that I could come home from Cardiff Half with no medal :anything could happen in two weeks time
Do I go with my heart, do the marathon and accept that I may not come home with bling or go for the option I know I can complete and come back with a medal for my efforts? In December last year I entered a half marathon that was 4&and a bit laps around a lake. It was a horrible half and I chose after three laps to DNF. Although I chose to DNF I was still upset and disappointed which is why I don't know if I want to risk returning without bling through no choice of my own. It is a extremely difficult decision.

Yes it is a tough decision. I will be calling them tomorrow to find out when they need to know. They said they will need to put the right support in place yet not sure how they will do this if I go with their alternative of starting the marathon then depending on the time at the 5mlle point continue with the marathon or swap to the 10 mile? I will be running Tuesday and then at my running group Thursday morning. I have Cardiff Half two weeks today so not sure if it is wise to do a really big run this close. The Yorkshire Marathon or the 10 mile race is 4 weeks today on 20th October.
Yes it is. If I feel OK and carry on but don't make the cut off times for the other road closures they will stop me for safety reasons and I will end up with nothing. Will see how I feel on the day. I need to be at the 5mlle point before 11.30am. Don't think it will be a problem achieving that it's the following 21.2miles lol
I spoke to the Yorkshire Marathon organisers today. I can decide on the day. I have to decide before 11.30am if I will carry on or do the remaining 5mlles of the 10 mile race. I wear the marathon bib then if I do decide to do the 10mile I let the marshalls know and they will let the race hq know by radio with my race number or I can decide and go to the information desk at the event village to let them know.
Well that's good, that way you can get Cardiff out of the way and prepare mentally for the big day. So much of the full distance is mental and I truly believe you have the determination to make it 👍🏻🤞🏻
Thanks I really appreciate your support and belief in me however I will be up against the cut off times for opening the roads up so unless I can get the rural parts of the course done I don't think I will be able to finish as there will be no path and no lighting. Anyway as you say I can get Cardiff Half done first then see how it goes on the day.
