5k at last!!

Well that’s the furthest I’ve managed since my HM distance weeks ago. I think it just took more out of me than I’d thought- coupled with going back to work after 15 months retirement.

I WAS going to run this morning ( I prefer mornings) but as usual there were several flies in the ointment and that didn’t happen. I was really ready for it!!!! I’d put my kit out the night before, had an early night with my Sleepy Tea (which seemed to work pretty well actually, only woke once to go to the loo), set my alarms on my watch AND my phone and put my phone in the spare bedroom so I had to get up to turn it off.

My plan was up at 5.50, out the door by 6.00, run for 40 mins and be back in time to shower and get ready for work and then leave to walk to work at 7.35. So the alarms go off, I leap out of bed and dash in to turn off the phone and looking at it in my befuddled state with no contacts I thought it said 6.50. “ B*%%#r!!!” I said “ I’ve set it for worktime”. So then I thought I might just as well shower and dress as normal.

Going into the bathroom I then realised that as it was such a dull wet day yesterday the solar panels hadn’t warmed up the water enough for my shower (I’d baked last night and done loads of washing up and it hadn’t reheated) so I squawked my way round the tepid shower and then grabbed the nice clean towel I’d got from the airing cupboard....only to find it was one of those towels!!! You know the ones that weren’t quite dry when they got picked in ?? and they get a sort of musty smell which transfers to your skin when you dry yourself??

Then I ended up trying to wash the smell off me at the bathroom sink and dry myself on the hand towel. Downstairs I went, fed the beasts and myself and as I sat down finally with my coffee and having put my contact lenses in I realised it was now only 6.15!!!!! I HAD set the alarms correctly - I’d just misread them!!! Too late to go and run now so I just chilled and walked to work in a leisurely fashion.

Finished work and I decided to sit and relax in the garden with my lunch....well that didn’t last long as I spotted the last bit of jasmine that needs to come out and next thing I’m in my gardening clogs and digging and hacking frantically for the next hour. It needed doing!!! So that’s all bagged up ready to go to the dump tomorrow afternoon.

Then I decided “ right it’s now or never!!” And went and changed and out before I could think of another excuse. I have been getting increasingly annoyed with myself on my last couple of runs and was determined to do better today and I did. I ran without walks and I ran for 5k again at last - not very fast as I think I took off too fast at the beginning and burnt out 🤣🤣but I was determined to keep going. 3.8k in and my ankle was twingeing “ you can shut up!!” I told it and soldiered on. It’s not like a sprain it’s just I have several joints that stick and just need to be stretched or pulled to unstick. I knew that’s all it was which is why I carried on although I WAS hobbling by the time I was on my cooldown. My middle toe on my left foot sticks all the time so much so, that if I am sat with my feet up, my daughter automatically pulls it unstuck everytime she walks past🤣🤣. Then I have other joints that are too loose. We are a very hyper mobile family unfortunately.

So now I have stretched, showered, eaten and I am chilling while I wait till 7.30 when I go to meet Rudi and we are going to watch part 2 of IT at the cinema. I shall jump out of my skin and squawk most of the way through but I still love films like that.

So that’s 2/3rds of week 3 on Jujus magic plan. Maybe I’ll try my 7k on Thursday evening instead of Friday morning???

Hahaha LL, that musty towel thing is atrocious isn’t it?! The irritation! 😩😩

Gosh, what a day! I’m glad you got your run in, even though it felt like hard work. 🏃‍♀️

If you’re anything like me, you automatically assume that all shorter runs will be a doddle compared to the longer ones don’t you? But for me it’s the complete opposite. I run to the distance I’ve chosen if you know what I mean? 5k or 10k seem like nothing when going for 10 miles (or more ..... eeek HM this time next week for me 😱), but by themselves they feel super long. Crazy! 😅

Sounds like the recovery is well on the way. Your body will take as long as it needs.

Your incident reminds me of when I was younger and still living at my parents. My brothers friend thought it would be funny to set my alarm an hour earlier. I didn't realise and stood outside of theshop I worked in at the time fuming at how late my manager was. When I realised I went and sat on the nearby Brighton beach for an hour - which was lovely in the ealry morning - so not all bad!

Funnily enough my son did the opposite thing this morning. Looked at his alarm and thought he had a lot longer in bed so snoozed it... only just made it for work. I’d sooner be early than rushed any day

God yes!!! I’m only working 3 half days at the moment and that’s too much for me. I think I’ll have packed that in by the time the 3 months trial comes to an end...🤫
