What a kerfuffle! Hoohaah 10K at Childerley Estate

Hey chums,

Reporting in from the Childerley Estate 10K put on by Hoohaah....it was wet, it was muddy, no chance of beating last years time, not to worry, they’d added an extra bit of fun.....pictures of animals round the course - 9 in total, remember the first letter of each animal and at the end make up the secret word, go to the cake stall lady, whisper said word and you’ll get a spring treat.....

It was raining a bit and windy when we got there, chilly wind bbrrrrrrr, very pleased I’d pulled out my base layer long sleeved top......I thought I’d finished with my winter gear.....🤔

Well, firstly the track takes you around farm fields, lovely and muddy, gloopy sticky clay like mud that turns your shoes into lead boots - even trail shoes.....(mine have hole in so my socks were black by the time I finished 😂). grassy in places, long wet grass, so added to the squelchyness of it all.......

Anyway, thought I’d try and look out for the pictures, got Frog, Kangaroo, Elephant ....and that was all I got, I reckon someone nicked them....😂.....or I was too busy trying to stay upright on some of the more challenging parts of the course...

The woodland is lovely, I noticed the scent of the bluebells, and all the marshals were fab.

Nice bit, towards the end, we were on a gravel track, albeit up hill, pretty good for cleaning the shoes up and getting rid of the clumps of mud! 😂. Made it look like you hadn’t been through the mud at all, the splatters of mud up my legs tell a different story....

All in all a good work out, the rain stopped and held off for the duration, think I got snapped by the photographer at the end - which is unusual, they’re usually doing the prize giving, so little me trots in undetected 😂....

Hope pinkaardvark enjoyed it, we didn’t get to meet, maybe another time.....oh and I reckon (on checking the animal pics with OH) the secret word was ‘kerfuffle’.....in Hoohaah’s strapline see, ‘not a fuss, not a kerfuffle...just a hoohaah’ , but didn’t work that out ‘til we got home.......doh! 🙄 no treat for me! (I bet they’d have run out anyway....by the time I’d got there....😄🏃‍♀️)

My time was 1hr 17, given the conditions, and some aching bones, I’m quite happy with that.

Happy running all! Hoohaah! Hoohaah! Hoohaah! (No hurtling today though....but thanks for all your good wishes and for roseabi ’ s shout out..👍.....😂)

It was, I wouldn’t go out in the cold and wet and trudge across muddy farm fields in my normal attire, but get the running gear on......and well.....why wouldnt you.......😂

Well done Madge - sounds like a fun (if challenging) run! Pretty cool down here in Surrey too - I had my gloves on for half of my run this morning! Sorry you didn't get a piece of cake, but hey, you have the bling!🏅🙂x

Thanks Sandra, yes, not overly bothered about the ‘treat’, you always get a bit of homemade flapjack at these, and of course the bling. I ran in shorts, my legs did feel a bit cold at the end, but at least the rain had stopped, would have been fairly miserable if it hadn’t, but hey that’s my third ‘race’ of the year ticked off so far.

Sounds like you’re building up nicely for your 10k, it’ll be a breeze! 😄🏃‍♀️, I’m like that, I like to do over 10k on my ‘long’ runs now.

Sounds a good run. Shoes cleaned off by the end - bonus! I like those runs.

Yes, especially walking through the long wet grass back to the car! Sparkly clean.....😂

Great report Madge50. Yes I did Ok but the mud was a new one for me and I'm not really trained for hills lol. But managed it in 65mins which given the conditions I felt was quite respectable. I found myself getting stuck behind people single file a lot so it was a survival rather than pb race lol. A friend is a martial so it was extra nice to get a high five at the 6km mark 😊

Oh well done, great time, 👏, yes it was a bit ‘train track’ at times, my OH, must have been near you, he did just over the hour...let us know if you’re doing anymore, we’ll have to try and meet up.

Yes sorry I wouldn't know you to see you but would definitely be nice to meet up at a future race. I see you have done a few local ones. Just missed the Swavesey hm. But will likely try to do the Hatfield 10k and maybe the wimpole one and or 10/13 miles events. Fen Drayton has a 10k but not sure when that is.

So far......we’re doing - we’ll signed up for.....😉 Hoohaah Wimpole 10k (may) and the 10 miler (October) , willingham 10k -Fen Gallop (July) , Bourn 10K (September) , Peterborough (perkins) HM(October) ......

Wimpole is lovely......hilly, but lovely....We did the HM there last year, a HM on trails is hard!.......

Anyway, it’ll be good just to say hello...

No worries, it's good to shout sometimes :D

Thanks aliboo, yes, I do like mud and puddles, but after all these months I think I’m starting to get trench foot.....it would be nice to have a bit of stable trail, and no vicar of dibley puddles....! 😂

Well done! It was cold out there today, and windy ! ☹️ Don’t envy you slip sliding in mud and then not getting cake. I thought the answer was going to be fruitcake, or was that just wishful thinking 😁

I hope you’re nice and rested by now 👍😃🏅

I thought it was funny (given how muddy it was) that the first two letters were F and K.....🤔, feeling good thanks, my hip is a bit stiff, but I’m sure it’ll be ok.

Honestly, I don't know how people run off-road. Uneven, unstable surfaces - my hat's off to you ☺

Madge50 profile image

It was a bit bambi like at times, plus rabbit holes to dodge! It would have been a bit nicer if it hadn’t needed the skating type movements 😂......really hoping some dryer weather is on the way soon....

Thing is, once you’ve started......the bling, the bling! 😂🏃‍♀️
