Eep, 1st September already? Autumn isn't far away!

I had a post-mini-break day off work today (it's not a bank holiday up here! Boooo) and spent part of it watching the Running for Good documentary (pictured). Have you seen it? I absolutely love the attitude of Fiona Oakes, she's inspirational in many ways, but for me mostly in her utterly human approach to running. It's so refreshing to encounter amazing runners that don't come across as simply finely tuned machines. She's fallible and daft and amazing and hilarious in equal measure. She even makes me feel a bit less guilty about my haphazard training regime (or lack thereof)! I'd recommend giving it a watch if you haven't seen it πŸ˜ƒ

Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week. Please join in the discussion!

If you're new or a lurker this is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.

Happy running!

Yes! I've seen that documentary - isn't she amazing!!!! πŸ’—

I've had a bitty week with visitors and LOADS of other stuff, managed to get a bit of triathlon training done, and my Achilles survived a hilly run! I have not been able to do the work for the Tri, but I'm sure it will be fun anyway 😊 Particularly if the sea is as gorgeous as it is today 😍

Happy stuff, Squeak and all xxx

You did an amazing job getting any training done at all with visitors! I'm sure it will pay dividends for the triathlon 😊

Yes - I've seen this Sqkr! She is fantastic and a little bit bonkers too (in a good way, of course). A very inspiring watch. Still getting out there running - an early one today to avoid the heat!β˜€οΈ Ran the virtual event - 7.605k (plus a little extra) in memory of PC 7605 Andrew Harper, who lost his life so tragically recently. Like we all say on here - we run...because we can.x

It is certainly a good thing to take the time to appreciate our freedom of movement and our self every now and then, it's a shame we seldom do it unless we have a sombre reminder πŸ˜”

I'm going to see if I can find this documentary online and watch it tonight? I've got so many streaming services, it's got too be on one of themπŸ˜€. Still plodding along, running 5km 3 times a week. Really looking forward to getting brighton tri done and dusted so I can just concentrate a bit on running and not worry about my front crawl. Sports massage booked with someone new tomorrow, I'm hoping for some miracles πŸ™ sorts out back, shoulder and calves in 40 minutes

I watched it on Amazon Prime, if that helps! πŸ˜„ Hope your massage doess the trick...

Just watched it on Prime..! Amazing story, I have seen Vegan Runners at PR, but I didn't know the story behind the group and Fiona Oakes. Such an inspirational story, thanks for recommending it. I am feeling fired up for some running...! Not going to become a vegan ( I am a veggie though :-) ) but I will definitely have more vegan meals. I am surprised I'd never heard of her before?

Yes - loved this documentary. What an amazing woman. I think her β€˜normal’!! day has trained her well to cope with little nourishment and to keep going when she has been on her feet all day. I managed to get out for my longest run to date - hitting 20miles. Was very pleased, given the heat and achilles issues I had been having. Pleased to say that after that long run my legs feel much better! Bit strange but I’m not complaining 😊. Wont do too much for the next couple of days and this weeks long run is shorter. I only have one more longer run of 20-22miles before I cut back for marathon tapering. The 20 was tough in the heat even though I went out early, it was still 25C when I had finished. Hoping the marathon will be cooler.

Oooh that looks interesting. Will have to see if I can find that documentary to watch.

"Ran" my upcoming race course last Friday but haven't ran since due to work. Feet were sore and legs were tired so I used my R8 recovery roller on my legs and massaged my feet using my wand since I couldn't find a tennis ball. I have less than three works until race day and lots of stuff going on between now and then so will do my best to get as many runs in as possible. The 20k course ended up being just under 19k and I've been really tired lately so am planning a shorter long run this week than the plan says and explore a couple of different trails for a change of scenery. I ordered some gaiters because the spear grass has been really bad and I somehow got a porcupine quill inside my shoe last week so will be giving them a test run in the weekend. Once the glue on the Velcro sets up on my shoes, I'll put them on and take a picture - they are called RunTilyou Dye and are quite psychedelic 😜. There is no blending into the background with them. I'm sure my feet will still be filthy after but maybe it will keep some of the bigger stuff out of my shoes (or at least less spear grass poking into my ankles!)

Watching it right now, crazy, wonderful lady! Actually I found the Rich Roll podcast on you tube where the three of them discuss the film. Made by the guys who did What the Health, which is what made me change to plant based diet! I'll catch the full film later. Looks brilliant.

I watched half of the podcast on YouTube, thinking it was the film. It's on Amazon prime. I cant believe I'd never heard of her, shes a legend.

You can rent or buy it on Vimeo too. I don't have Prime. I used to deal with Amazon but they treat their suppliers appallingly so I avoid giving them my money when I can! She is proper Northern too. Love it!

That sounds like one too watch...I think many of us will relate to haphazard training :)

Thanks for the heads up...

Have not run much this week really, with things getting in the way, but managed to get another not too shabby 10K in on flattish ground, as a practice for my Spitfire run next Sunday! Flat running is so hard for me... and with heat too, phew!

I am happy though as just after my last injury in May, I thought I would never get back, even to this stage!

Happy running folks:)

I pulled it out of the hat last week but my best mate is coming fri to mon so no big ones planned, might squeeze a short one in fri morning waiting for her and mon PM when I send her packing 🀣

Nope, a relaxing weekend sightseeing locally, Arundel castle, Petworth, and surrounding areas. Will get some walking and shopping in but mostly eating and exercising the jaws πŸ€£πŸ‘πŸ»

I managed to fit in three runs last week, but I ran the first 10 km of my HM distance run too fast, so I pretty much fell apart in the second half, especially with the long uphill run home. Three runs are also scheduled for this week. With my half marathon looming, which has a pretty big hill from 15-17 km, my plan is not to make things easy for myself, and include hills in most of longer runs.

I could not find the actual film, but I did find this interview of her with Rich Roll. She really is amazing! And stunningly humble: youtu.be/rPovf1-E8xg

It was a busy week with a Beer Mile relay on Wednesday, and a long 30+k run on Saturday, broken into 2 sessions of trail and road with a short break between. That was hard late on as it warmed up. The Beer relay was good fun - I stuck with two and some of the younger runners went for the regulation four. Happy with my choice :). This Sat is another 30 run, so I've been planning where to go on it - maybe run down Yonge St to the lake and then along the waterfront if all goes according to plan. Or maybe a trail, I have not settled on it just yet.

Realised I have no more events booked, so today I plonked myself onto the Scottish half marathon sheet for the 22nd September. May as well keep at it for now!

Crikey it’s been a busy week peeps πŸ’ͺπŸ˜ƒπŸ‘. Well done everyone πŸ‘ŠβœŠ

Still plugging away with marathon training. I did a 23 k run today. Looking forward to a short recovery run tomorrow

I finally managed to buy the film from Vimeo this weekend and watched it with my sister in law who runs ultras.

We were both blown away. What a character, what an athlete, regardless of how she views herself! Truly, truly inspiring film.

Neither of us really dared complain when we ran the mara distance together the next day! πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ€£ that knee!!! Those shoes!! I almost bought the shoes until I read a review that said they are super hard and tough, just like her... my pampered feet are used to more comfort.
