You honestly don't want to know how much of my working morning I have so far spent Googling whether the roadrunner says 'meep meep' or 'beep beep'.*
So the air is getting spiky and the leaves are beginning to glow gold and warm. My favourite running season! How about you?
Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week. Please join in the discussion
If you're new or a lurker this is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.
Have a great week, and enjoy your runs

*Apparently it's officially beep beep, but I just can't get on board with that. It was always meep meep when I was chasing my little brother round the garden so I'm sticking with childhood tradition.

Morning Sqkr, and greetings from a very sunny Reading where I am enjoying a coffee overlooking the river - all very pleasant! ...and a world apart from yesterdayβs Emmer Green 10k race in the cold and rain. So... not lucky with the weather, but I did it, and now have the medal to prove it
This week will be taking things fairly steady. My left Achilles is pinging away again after all those hills yesterday, so plan just some yoga today, then a round of golf tomorrow before (probably) strapping on the running shoes again on Wednesday. I had hoped to do 100k total in September, but looks like I may just fall short of that.
But the other big thing I need to get used to is running in non-summer weather! Having started C25k in April and only stepped outside in June, I have been used to always running in run in (at least) warmish weather. So am still getting used to the idea of layers and jackets and all that sort of stuff, plus the daunting prospect of running in the dark. Weβll see...
However, the forecast for this week is good, so am looking forward to getting out there and making the most of what could be the last decent weather for a while
Did my final long run (32k) on Saturday ready for York next month - or put another way less than 3 weeks away now eeeek! OH asked me if I had any more long runs to do to which I replied no. Didnβt think next weekends 16k counted as long now π, for now anyway. The run went ok and when I got back I stretched, had a recovery drink and lay with my legs up the wall for 10mins. Iβve had no aches and pains and am walking ok so taking that as a positive as, according to my usual pattern , if nothing has started aching or dropping off by today Nothing is going to.
Yep, think it slows down from here. Have managed to complete all runs so far and as My ASICS ends on 30th Sept I donβt think theyβll notice if I skip a run after this week. They have me doing 4 runs incl the marathon on the last week!
Thanks Sandra. Feel like wrapping myself in cotton wool π. Itβs all about The Day now. Nerves over logistics (it means an overnight stay and using Park & Ride) starting to creep in.
Thank you. I think so on the training itβs the timings and traffic for the day that is worrying me. We are Using the Park and Ride but the last bus back is 5pm - an incentive to finish before that or it will be an expensive taxi ride back to the car!
Took it easy most of last week, after my HM so was raring to go for parkrun on Saturday and got a pb by over 20s!! I was a bit surprised as I broke the target I set back at Easter π. Signed up for a 7mile race in November too.
2 weeks since my marathon and no injury or signs or too much wear and tear, so I plan to get back to a basic "tick-over" programme of a 5k, 10k and a long run. I'll be targeting my 10k PB over the next few weeks as an autumn goal. Possible HM 13 Oct where I'd like to have a bash at a getting much closer to 2hrs too.
Sounds like a good plan. I did not get in a long run yesterday - was raining all day and I knew Iβd be doing 8 or 9k today but Iβd like to keep them ticking over too as I plan to get some more HMs in over the next few months too. Good luck with your targets.
You too Macmac. I'm really interested to find out how racing longer distances has affected my speed on shorter runs as I've been going slower and slower when extending the long runs into Sillytown territory during marathon prep etc.
Thanks Lordi - I have found a combination of the longer runs and intervals each week have helped my 5k time, so hopefully you will too. I think half of it is having the mental strength to push myself, which I find easier running in a group as I always feel slow! π
Ok, you all know it... after months of interval training, long runs, and miles of pace running... finally Sunday was race day! I got at the starting line of the Belfast city half marathon at around 8:40 as planned, with official start at 9. I was fairly confident and I really wanted to get try it as hard as I could to run a sub 90' (keeping the 1h 30' pacers...)
I started with them and shut my brain down when it told me it was too fast. I spent 10 miles with the first of the two pacers at 1h 30'. The effort was not indifferent and it finally broke me in mile 10. so from running a 6'50 per mile pace I went down to 7'30 or so in the 10th mile. Then the second 1h30' passed me and I tried again everything I had. I spent about 1 mile with him and the others, but then I lost them. I kept the flag in sight. I spent the last 2 miles around 7'15. Unfortunately I did not get the sub 90 but I ended up REALLY close!!!
I ended up with a (very good anyway) 1h 30' 09'' (an improvement of 1'30'' from my best HM in June and of 4'30 on my previous time on this race.
So overall I am very happy. Today I am a bit sore, but less than other times, which means I trained better...
A race report to follow, with a bit of learning and a bit of drama of my (almost) 1h30' half marathon
Fantastic time, and thereβs me with a target of 2hours 30 for my first half marathon in October. Iβm a π by comparison. ππ½ππ½ππ½
A rather more modest post from me. I'm in the run up to my 10k event on Sunday at Leeds Castle. My Asics plan which is my bible says 5k today, tomorrow and Friday. Perfect timing as I am in France for work Wed and Thu. Shall I squeeze in parkrun as well? Or maybe instead of the Friday run. Oh God, I'm not sure I can deviate from the plan with a clear conscience.
Organisation and information about the event has been atrocious. I was promised an email last week that never arrived. I do know that supporters will be charged Β£8 EACH for the privilege of cheering me on. Looks like I'm on my own then.
Time to chase for some details, like what time to get there and which carpark would be a start. Grrrr. The medal had better be good.
Hard I know but I would give park run a miss (or Marshall?). Two reasons, apart from being rested for Sunday are 1. Can you trust yourself not to βgo for itβ at whatever pace that is. 2. Another chance to get injured so close to the main event.
I know what you mean about My Asics (Iβm going to miss it). I take it as I need to do it or something bad will happen π, not that it is a tool to use to get me on my way βΊοΈ.
Good Luck with getting the information - silly question have you looked in your spam/junk box? Have a good week and weβll be cheering you on on Sunday.
