Well, to look on the bright side, it's being treated and this should just be a (big) change to my training plan. The down side is that I had a heart attack yesterday ☹️.
It seems that it's more down to bad luck than anything specific.
I'm generally in good shape and being treated in hospital .so the outlook is good

Thanks Abi. I did start doing some knee exercises this morning but I've since learnt that I should be doing nothing but resting so I'm 100% focused on taking it easy 🌝🛌💤💤💤
You need all the support you can get SkiMonday, so sorry about your heart attack, we here on C25K and Marathon Support wish you the speediest of recovery.
Oh crikey! That's a swerve ball and a half and must pretty much top the 'bad luck' leaderboard! Do as you're told and we look forward to having you back on plan as soon as allowed. Take care.
Thanks Linda. Well, at least I'm in the lead at something! I'm now 100% focused on taking it easy (and posting here, I can still post about running even if I can't run for a while).
You certainly can. It's great to stay in touch and enjoy runs by proxy 😂. The other thing I've been doing is volunteering at parkrun and local races - nice to get an atmosphere fix every now and again; may be something to consider once you're up and about 🙂
Thanks, it could have been a lot worse! I felt fine in the morning, sat down at my desk with lunch then had a tight feeling across my chest which lasted for about 20 minutes. Turns out, that was the heart attack. Nothing since and I'm on medication for it so I should be OK 🌝
I found that the BHF operate "Heart Support Group" sessions which might help. However, they're all some distance away (there's one in the Forest of Dean, which is where I had my HM booked - Hurrumph again). I guess I need to wait and see what the hospital offers. Figuring out what level to start back at could be interesting! I suspect it might start with gentle walks.
Thanks Tasha. Current plan is something like: 1/ get to hospital (I've achieved that step) 2/ take it easy whilst the hospital do their stuff (I'm working on that) 3/ follow a rehab process.
😳 And here I am complaining about my foot! Look after yourself fella, listen to the doctors... I know it's hard to believe sometimes, but there are more important things in life than running... like Life.
Cheers! I do have to remind myself at times that the main reason for running is to maintain my health. Hope your foot's sorted soon. Not sure why 🤔, but I seem to remember you achieving 10 miles recently, congratulations for that!
Oh no SkiMonday - what a shock. So glad you are in the hands of the doctors, and are resting up. Wishing you a good, speedy recovery. The training plans can certainly wait. x
Thanks Cheeky. Yeah, it's not something that I was expecting either! I guess it serves as a reminder that, although we can do a lot to improve our chances, nothing's guaranteed.
I'm now following orders to take it easy (seems that posting on here is OK: my pulse is currently 56).
OK, here's a question: is it reasonable to post a direct statement like my "I've just had a heart attack" or would a more subtle beginning like "I'm feeling a bit under the weather today" be better?
I think your statement was perfectly appropriate - I guess my surprise about it came after reading the lighthearted heading! That relates more to what I did on my run this morning - I fell down a hole! Your predicament is a whole lot worse.
Oh wow SkiMonday! So sorry to read this but am very thankful you are well enough to tell us about it. Do be a good patient and take care of yourself. When you get back to running, the HM will be that much sweeter.
Nah, you won't be going back to the beginning. You'll maintain fitness. Just don't expect to restart where you left off, be prepared to be a bit slower and slowly work back up.....once the doc says ok, of course.
I'm sure there will be. A friend of mine went through the same thing and the hospital had a rehab programme for her to follow. She wasn't a runner, but there was some stress testing involved and walking for her.
She's doing great! She had some anxiety afterwards which is quite common and can mimic the symptoms but once she got through that, she hasn't looked back.
Thanks Sandie. Not sure how it's going to work out yet, but dodging the HM could mean that my first event is a full marathon! A kind of fat, frying pan, fire sort of thing. There again, instead of the marathon, I could be doing W1R1.
Oh my goodness! All the very best for your recovery - take it easy, but keep reading and posting on here to keep motivated. It might help maintain fitness as well, you never know!
Wow, glad you are ok now. That is a bit of a shock. Same thing happened to a close friend of mine and it was a real shock to him and us as well. He was very fit. But he listened to the docs, got on meds, adjusted diet and is managing it well now. Look after yourself mate.
Cheers Decker. I guess medication will help but the only lifestyle changes I can think of are cutting down on beer and butter ☹️. Still, my body's given me a very unsubtle hint so I guess it needs to be done. These next few months are going to be interesting.
