Just saying, be careful not to discount ,too readily , some of your PR days.
Looking back on Strava records I remember the first occasion on the 13/05/19 during Abi’s Spring Speed Challenge I got below 5 mins/km.My 1km PR was 4:44 and my 400m PR was and still is 1:47.
I just surprised myself so much and because I could not go out and replicate it immediately trying different routes I discounted it and binned it as DID NOT HAPPEN.
After several months following and a period of injury, no gym, no running ,gardening graft, family commitments, one missed Summer Speed Challenge, I decided I am just going to enter the current Speed Challenge over a short 500m distance.Do not have the smarts to record 200m unless it’s an already existing segment.
So did my first marker run on my birthday and was really pleasantly surprised I was even below 6 mins/km.Nothing to compare with what followed, a below 5min/km pace , granted over just the half km, and a second best 400m 1:51 and finding a 200m segment with a 54 second and all time and all comers second best.
I am beginning now to believe the May result did happen.I am perhaps close to repeating it now or in the very near future when I get back to running soon in September.
It’s a lesson for me,believe,be patient,things can happen.
Sorry to bore you, just thought I had to put this on record just to help myself clear my mind and run more chilled and more free.
Go the magic forum.

Things do happen...wonderful things...and with patience they happen when we least expect it..
I had an exceptionally pleasant 5K yesterday...with some sections at a speed I do not usually run at.
I had no recollection of being speedy; just of a run full of sights, sounds and joy... it was our awesome Hidden who pointed out I was getting faster....and also, that it probably was because I was so relaxed, with nothing to prove...just building back up after the IC..
You are having a terrific time...and enjoying it...that is the key...🙂
"....the two most powerful warriors, are patience and time..."
I think you're right, we're too quick to discount some achievements as one offs, or even blips. We often don't give ourselves enough credit, or at the right times 👍🏻😁
Excellent stuff. I did a 5k PB of 25:02 in April .I can't even get close to that at the moment. But it will come. We have to accept that we are not machines and many factors have to be right to get that PB. Even more so than early on when virtually every run was a new record.
BTW I wish my drive was that neat, tidy and weed free!
Your experience and knowledge is great. So true. But I have to learn to be patient and I am impatient to just be able to bottle this stuff/ magic.
Your a trooper and impressive continuous improvement with your lung busting efforts and absolute quickest pace over the one km split and in the 5 k distance.💪🏃♂️☄️
Got a plan with the garden Dave,
Trying to give it a kerb appeal make over, everything, even started a grand plan painting thing.
OH is convinced the straight jacket will be required soon,Hey ho, I am probably another year away from getting to where I plan to.Bit like our running journeys.🤔Hedges need cutting again and loads more.
Don’t stand still in my garden, you will get painted.🙈🤣
You are right Tbae, we don’t credit our progress enough. And sometimes we lose track of how far we gave come. I try to keep track of the big PBs but the smaller day to day ones often go unnoticed. It is interesting that often our PBs are tied into those runs that just come together when things feel right, seemingly out of our hands, when really it is just the payoff of months of training and certain conditions that fall into place.
Your experience, knowledge and application Roger are just inspirational.
I have only experienced that twice.May 2019 and 2019.Particularly the first time, under 5 min/km pace, it was due to training and I could not believe it because it was so effortless. In fact as a novice I naively said because of that I think I will go out the next day and go sub 4.🙈🤣
This time it was not, at least not running just garden graft.
Do not know where it came from and you know what Roger 🤔,I again said I am going out the next day I am going to get this all comers, all time segment Crown.
Think I am just going to be patient and keep quiet.🙈🤣 Accept what the running Gods consent to give me.🤔🤣🤣
But your spot on Roger, let no one be in any doubt, you put the time and effort in and you do get the pleasure, rewards and results.
Atb Roger, must remember to reverse my hat.
Keep bringing it and enjoy your holiday.🤔Looks stunning and you work hard for that also.
Lol 😂 yes I know what you mean. You get that sub whatever and think “hey I can do this all the time now” but it’s not always so easy. But I say keep going for it because if that’s what your heart wants, why deny it? 🙂
You have inspired a “generation” of grads and continue to do so Floss. I think we all inspire one another here and that is what makes this such a great forum.
Fabulous stuff. I needed this reminder. I ran 22.28 in a 5k race last year and I have struggled to get anywhere near it since. Last week I ran a 24.20 PR and I collapsed after that one. I wonder if I’ll ever get to sub 23 again.
Thanks for the tip regarding Pete Magill tbae 👍 I’ve spent quite some time listening and reading today and got lots of good ideas to incorporate into my training. I hadn’t heard of him before.
