Today was going to be the day I tried again to get to 14k. Woke up to torrential rain, so thought Iβd have some breakfast for a change and hope the weather perked up a bit. By midday the rain had turned to gentle drizzle so I decided to risk it. I like to have a place to aim for on out and backs so had decided to run to the Chateau de Bridoire which I knew was about 7km. Unfortunately pretty much downhill there and uphill back. I was also aiming for a steady consistent 7m/km if poss. Reached the chateau - 7.5k π€ 10k in 1:11 so on target. At 12k I was thinking when will this be over because things were starting to hurt and that hill is sooo long. Then, realising I would actually get to 15k, I threw caution to the wind, swerved onto my 4k circular route. 16km in 1:59:03, 7:27 average (yay, under 2 hours π) Sorry Dexy5 but Beachcomber66 βs challenge was just too tempting. Also, I have saved myself the agony of having to do it again for a while. Feel very proud and have a great sense of achievement, but I am looking forward to going back to 10ks!! cheekychipmunks it was worth waiting for the weather to improve.
Please can I have my nice shiny new badge, pretty please π

That's a fantastic achievement - and a great surprise for you when you didn't set out to go that far. Hope you have a lovely restful plan for the rest of the day - feet up, glowing with pride ππππ
Thanks Linda, it feels great to know I can actually do it. GSR is beckoning now π¬ After a shower and a nice lunch I am just debating whether Iβm capable of walking the dog round the block as OH has come down with shingles and not feeling too good π€
Oh no! Shingles was horrible. I had it just before my GSR. It left me wiped out and rather 'down' long after the visible symptoms were gone - but that way that you don't realise til after you are fully recovered. Speedy healing to him. A gentle dog walk should be OK - so long as you have comfy shoes π
Congratulations on completing 10 miles, brilliant, I am not sure, but I suppose for you to get the word 10 miles (shiny new badge) next to your username leave a message on the August 10 miles healthunlocked graduation post and tell the administrators that you have ran 10 miles. I am not sure if it's the same as C25K and Graduate10 to do that, but give it a try.
Iβm on dog walking duty just now as OH has shingles, so 4-5km a day will hopefully help me not to seize up! Might not do another long run for a little while though π
Thank you Flick! I am looking forward to getting back to Lincoln at the end of the month, so that I can go back to flat running. Over 200m of elevation gain and nearly all on the way back π³
I used to live in Louth! That would be a hilly place to run. Doing some hill running too is good though: best of both worlds. I found it really hard to adapt to flat running when we moved here in February after the Cotswolds. Now I can tackle both x
If you run hills regularly, they really donβt feel harder than flat running, just different. Anyway, with that elevation gain you did brilliantly running 10 miles x
Thank you Clubberlang! It really is. Canβt say I enjoyed it as much as my first 10k and I certainly hurt more, but it had to be done. I am not doing HM though, nooo definitely not π
How crazy is this.. I have run 20km before, but never a half marathon. How ridiculous is that? I don't know why I didn't run that last km.. probably too knackered π it was a long time ago. I actually remember thinking "I'm NEVER running a marathon.. NEVER! Not a chance I'm doing that twice"
πππππ₯π₯πππBrilliant stuff Sandie! My effort last week wasnβt meant to be a challenge; it was just about taking an opportunity which presented itself. It sounds like a lovely run, and way quicker than my 2 hours and 10 minutes. Message to cheekychipmunks; we need a period of horizontal reflection. None of this Half Marathon nonsenseπ
Thanks BC! I know but I decided to treat it as such. Me competitive, nooo! At least I now know I should be able to stagger round the Great South Run at the end of October with the lovely cheekychipmunks and Dexy5 Absolutely with you on the HM stuff - my legs ache from hip to big toe!
It is a long way..it really is..I was so pleased..almost as exciting as Graduating from Couch..I wanted the badge..but as Admin..we can only show our Admin badges!!
Seriously think about a short run tomorrow..very gentle...it will ease those muscles...it did for me anyway. .. I did just 1K...it was enough.π
And there you have why I was a numpty to push that 10.5 miles in the middle of HM training. There was no way to interrupt the day plan and do just a short run next time. Luckily it was a rest day next day, or I would have been done for xx
Absolutely fantastic news Sandie1961 ! You are epic and so much faster than me! Wow, what a run - thatβll set you up nicely for the GSR. πππππ
I still donβt believe you when you say 10 miles will be enough. I foresee a HM in your future! π ππββοΈ
Hope youβre relaxing and partaking of something tasty now, along with a glass or several of π₯. Well done! ππππππ
Thank you lovely lady (even if it is your fault I got into this!) Taken Ben for a short walk round the lake to shake out the aching limbs and G&T now poured (after all it is 6.30 hereπ) Now stop hexing me π
I donβt know , I put my phone away for a day and look what happens. Congratulations Sandie. 10 miles done in the drizzle π§. You are a star. You must be tired - I know I was after 14k
No pressure on me now. I think Iβll do what you and Beachcomber66 did; just wait for a cool windless day. Itβs probably not going to happen this week as Iβm treating my sister to a spa for her 60th birthday. A treat for me too! She might miss me if I disappear to do a quick 10 miles!
Celebrate in style and I hope hubby feels better soon.
I know, Iβm sorry π I couldnβt face the thought of doing it all again just to add another 1k, so dug in deep and gritted teeth! Taken Ben for a walk round the lake (2.4k) since and am feeling slightly looser but am shattered. G&T poured (I am an hour ahead of you π). Have a fab time with your sister xx
Really pleased for you and this musketeer will be with you soon. Now you and Beachcomber66 don't go running away with cheekychipmunks until I catch up . πββοΈπββοΈπββοΈ.....................πββοΈ
Enjoy that g&t - now that is a good idea. Whereβs that barman of mine? πΈcheers!
Brilliant! Well done Sandie! πππ 10 miles is such an amazing achievement! And the best thing? It makes 10k feel like a walk in the park! πππ Wear your badge with pride! xxx
Yay! Well done Sandie, itβs a fantastic achievement, with hills too and a sub 2 hrs! Sorry to hear about OH though, what a pig when youβre on holiday too. Hope you are both starting to recover today ππππ€
Thank you π Feeling surprisingly good considering, just a bit of a niggle in my right knee! Re the OH, thankfully we are just staying at our house this time, although my sister and her partner are arriving tomorrow so lots of things planned. Heβs a real grumpy guts though - hates not feeling well!
Thanks Sask! It was really hard, especially the long hill on the way back, but I feel surprisingly good today. I did it π
Well Done Sandie. I read your post a few times to find out how you got from 12km and when will this be over? to WTF - I can do 16km ! If you can share that secret, I will be your amie for life.
Thanks Paula, chere amie π Well, as it was an out and back route I had no choice about doing the 15k seeing that I slightly underestimated the distance to Chateau la Bridoire. Then I thought, if Iβve got to do 15 this time, then have to do it all again to get to 10 miles, I might as well get the agony over and done with, gritted my teeth and fixed a grimace on my face. Of course the fact that Beachcomber had done his 10 miles set off my competitive streak! Howβs your holiday running?
I had a few false starts, realising that it was way too hot to run at any time during the day except early morning. So I did a nice early, trail run last week. I was gobsmacked to meet lots of runners (groups and solo) who all say "Bonjour". It's rare to get an unsolicited Bonjour from a french person so their runners are a breed apart
