Is it a failure?

Well it's now over half way through 2019....one of my original goals for this year is not going to happen.

I wanted a marathon....

What made me change my mind?

Am I ready physically? Yes.

Am I ready mentaly? Yes.

Am I up for it? Yes.

Will i do it? Yes...but in my own time.

The learning curve of long runs has taught me patience, humilty and respect.

One of the greatest feelings in the world is knowing you can achieve one of your dreams. What turns dreams into reality is hard work, planning, patience and knowing your mind can take your body where it's not been before..

Am I scared..f*** yes...but that's half the fun. For now Mr Marathon you may elude me but I will come knocking.

😎

I would say that's a resounding success. You felt the need to step back for now. you were wise enough to do just that. I think a marathon is huge. you really need to be 100% ready.

I second Flick. Knowing when to reign it in is the hardest part in running and the most grownup;-) so not a failure, a sensible thing to do. Marathon will still be there nezt year or whenever you want to do it.

Brilliant realisation Windoze! πŸ‘πŸ‘ You’re an amazing runner, why put undue pressure on yourself? There will be plenty more opportunities to run a Marathon. πŸƒπŸ’ͺ

You didn't fail anything, but you re-callibrated you tergets to give yourself a better chance going forward - I would call that well-earned experience.

Ha ha, glad to hear it. My ultra eluded me last year but i've got it in my sights and I'll nail that sucker or my name's not Miss Wobble!

I was running yesterday to talk of imperceptible curves equalling progress. Those imperceptible increases in distance that get us towards our goals, slowly and carefully. With this running lark there's no limit to how far we can go, except our own physical limitations of course, but we surprise ourselves everyday don't we, just by keeping going

Have fun!

You know the answer Windoze - I think Whatsapp summed it up perfectly - you "recalibrated your targets"! (Perfect - I shall use that one myself!πŸ˜‚ ) Seriously - sounds like a wise decision. When the time is right....πŸ™‚

I agree with Whatsapp also. Just a recalibration of your goal is all that happened there. I don’t see any failure at all. Just a wise decision based on experience
