Interesting and informative article about it here: dcrainmaker.com/2019/07/str...

I must admit that now I have a Garmin I am sort of wondering why I should bother with Strava 😊

I downloaded Strava so I could use my phone to track runs. I’m waiting for a warranty replacement for my dead Garmin. As soon as I get a replacement watch I’ll ditch Strava again. It seems to be more useful for social interaction than training.

Trouble is, who's version of the truth is correct? I imagine it's somewhere in between.

Yes indeed. I found it hilarious that they both blamed each other. We're the kids in the divorce 🀣

I have Garmin watch and Garmin Connect records and tracks all my runs. I have never used Strava - but as far as I can see it is more of a "social" running platform. I have no need to compare my runs with anybody elses.

Have not read your link. But will.Too busy cutting hedges.🀣

For me Strava and the C25k Strava group is an extension of the magic forum and a very quick means of seeing what runners are doing.

Not for comparison but I find it inspiring and more.

For the community and support of other runners. My Garmin sent my runs to Strava, now I’ve switched to Polar it does the same, so there is no technical reason to use Strava. But all my friends from here, Lonely Goat and Run Mummy Run are on Strava too. Sometimes it’s nice to look at the quick, concise Strava breakdown of the run too. Oh, and I can have my swims, runs and yoga all in one place 😊 xx

Just read the article and it's exactly as I suspected, it's Relive's new social aspect. I only use the free version of Relive and I'm not about to start on a new social platform.

You can however still manually import your run/ride/etc to create your Relive video if you want.

I started with Strava before considering a watch and I like to see if I have had a PB on segments of various runs I do. But my account is private so no one else can look at my runs and I use the free version

I’ve never used re-live so no difference to me. So I think I’ll carry on with garmin downloading to Strava.

I stayed off Strava for almost a year precisely because of the competitive aspect, but most people I know are on it and many of our destination runs are posted through it. Garmin has a social feature too but it does not have the same traction as Strava. Garmin does all the same things really and auto feeds to Strava, but Relive for me was more of a toy than a tool so I never really used it. It was fun to see other people’s runs though. Now I have myfitnesspal too to try and record my calorie intake and am starting to get app stress!

Exhausted just reading and trying to understand this article.πŸ™ˆπŸ€£

HealthUnlocked magic forum lead me to the sub C25k Strava group.Free version.🀣.So many benefits.

Not sure if opportunities exist for HealthUnlocked that replicate some of these benefits.πŸ€”

Stuck with Strava and pairing it up with series 4 Apple Watch and i phone.

Techie πŸ¦• challenges and have never used relive.

Certainly would regret seeing the disappearance of C25k sub group.

Incidentally I was surprised to learn that the discover facility has disappeared form HealthUnlocked under your profile section.

That was the ability to look into all of the communities contained therein.πŸ€”

Hey ho, but all organisations that limit the ability and participation of members to inspire and be inspired is maybe beginning to lose the plot.πŸ€”

Sorry if this is gobble de guck.πŸ™ˆπŸ€£

Opportunities missed.Sad really.

There is no risk of the C25K Strava group disappearing xx

To search for other communities on Health Unlocked tap on 'My hub', select 'Find a community' then input search terms 😊😊😊

Just finished the article and I have to say it does seem like Strava are being a bit like underhanded bullies here. Glad I have all my data on Garmin still just in case.

What this has done is motivate me to download Relive. And voila! I synced my watch to my phone after today’s run and up popped Relive and asked if I wanted to create a video. What fun!

Ha I posted this and then I had my Mum visiting so I couldn't get back to respond to comments on this post πŸ˜„

I thought it was an interesting article - if bordering on TL:DR. And btw DC Rainmaker is a good site to go to for gear reviews, he really does go to town on them!

I am on the fence about Relive; I do like to see the videos of really long runs, they are a lot of fun! The short ones up and down the prom seem a bit pointless to me 😊 From a personal perspective I do not feel the loss of it from Strava, but I do feel pretty sorry for Relive.

As for Strava, I am quite strongly invested, because I have a lot of my data (Strava's data - to a certain extent I think they are correct to call it their data!) on there, and also quite a few connections, and am admin for a couple of groups. So I will still be on Strava for the foreseeable, but I may start to keep my running diary (such as it is) on Garmin - this does seem to make more sense!

It looks like Strava shot themselves in the foot with this one (seems to be a popular thing these days). Anyhow, the article stated that Relieve will take data from Garmin so that should be OK for a lot of people.

Personally, my data is uploaded from Garmin to both Strava and Endomondo, that way, I avoid relying on Strava (I started off using Endomondo but most of my colleagues use Strava so I added that).
