Day 5 HM training:

I put my max HR up to 170. It certainly helped and this run was much more realistic, but it's still too low, so i'm going to take SlowLoris 's advice and put it at the max HR I experience when running - well, actually that's been 183 a couple of times, but I'll try it at 178 and see how i go, since that's the usual peak for me. I notice the adjustment has put my VO2 max up again!

Warm and muggy today, like a sauna, and i was very red in the face when I got back. but, you know what, something must be working because I had moments of total bliss on this run, just steady pace in zone 4, a sense of connection with my surroundings.

So happy to know that you enjoyed your run this morning Flick, HR 170 or 178 is reasonable, not sure if it's a good thing HR going above 180 although I did read that short bursts of going over 200 is OK, dodgy.

This morning I had a little run of 25 minutes, I put the run 3 of week 6 of C25K on, that's the one at the end that Laura tells you that "you are now officially a runner", just a little reminder of last year, I ran that this morning in preparation for my first parkrun this Saturday.

Strangely the 181 peaks have been on runs when i wasn't feeling all out at all. I just don't think hearts fit into assigned formulae, and ECGs always show mine as boringly strong and healthy.

I'm glad c25k is working out for you second (?) time around. I've been sort of doing it again myself in between other training, as I've been keeping a friend company while she does it. It's lovely to hear Michael Johnson's sexy dulcet tones again :)

I hope park run is all you want it to be. I've only ever done one, but I'm going to start here in Abingdon once I've got HM training and the Oxford HM out of the way

Excellent - I still don't understand why some people won't use their own data 😊😊😊

Total bliss!!! That is really awesome 💗

Thank you lovely :) I used to get that zen like bliss a lot when doing trail running, but today it happened when passing Saxton Road, which is the scary estate with the CCTV. but it was also by the river and the rowing club, with flowers in bloom and a breeze off the water xx

All sounds good to me, Flick - well done!🙂

Thank you 😊 it’s a juggling act getting the max heart rate right, but I think I’m almost there

Go Flick... I find this fascinating...I think I am a simple soul... and just run most of the time.... You seem to be doing really well :) Are you enjoying it?

in reply toOldfloss

Hi Floss, me too, just run most of the time. But I have to do some sort of training for half marathon (as I know you did too). without this plan, I would have gone along and run at my usual fast as I can (which is not very fast) then got exhausted halfway round. Now i understand about keeping the heart rate back to a certain level etc. But I'm enjoying it enormously ") x

That is key...enjoyment.

I know roseabi 's plan, which I used, helped enormously and the reassurance that I had from so many folk, on here, to support me and give me advice along the way...even when I tweaked things, meant so much.

The wealth of experience here and the empathy from our friends, does almost, carry you through. ( At least that was the case for me.)

You are doing terrifically... as ever, my friend :)

I'm tempted to up mine now Flick 🙈 I'll do my long run tomorrow and see. It is definitely helping me to pace my runs but I don't want my race pace to go too slow! X

It’s worth experimenting. My was way too low. Honestly I looked like I was auditioning for the ministry of funny walks x
