My first track and field event in over 15 years...

And the first time I jumped (long and high) in over 22...

And today I cannot even walk, everything sore, but yesterday was really fun!!!

My running club wanted to participate in a team trophy and needed everybody to jump (literally) out of their comfort zone to cover races on the track and in the field.

So I volunteered to long jump and shot ... and they volunteered me for the high jump and the 3,000 steeplechase. Then in the end they needed one men for the 4X100 so I did that as well. It was difficult to start, but I am glad I did it.

The brain remembered how to do the jumps and how to move around the track (and on hurdles) but the body wasn't exactly able to follow... although I finished everything with positive results :)

high jump - 1m30 (my personal best when I was 14/15 was 162)

long jump - 4m09 (my personal best when I was 14/15 was 580)

shot (7.26 kg) - 5m51 (never done it before)

3000 steeplechase - 13'29 (never done it before, this was the very first attempt... and I was so tired that I could not really go any faster...)

4X100 meters (after the 3000 S!!! )

Anyway it was a great day out and I proved to my self that I can still jump and do other stuff, not only running :) And the kids came and were really happy I could do these things and they noticed I was one of the oldest (although there were a couple of over 70 jumping and throwing the discus ...)

It was a really fun day and it was funny talking with the judges who were laughing at me telling me that they could tell I knew what I was doing, but the body was not following the brain :) they seemed amused abut also respectful for what I was trying to do, and I am proud I managed to do it.

I may give it another go in a couple of weeks time, but it will all depend on how I can recover :)

have a great day

Marco

PS. the water was freezing and deep!!!

Your story is fantastic.

Wow well done Marco! I think I would be in traction at the local hospital after even one of these events πŸ˜πŸ‘πŸΌ

probably it would be a good idea to try today... but it was worth it :)

Bloody hell Marco! Great effort - just imagining the mechanics of trying a high jump after so long makes me ache. Not sure I could actually manage a forward roll these days!

Thanks!!!

It did hurt, ankles and back are in agony for the jumps, while upper legs are in agony for the hurdles, I looked as I got severely injured yesterday, could walk properly...

But I’m thinking I’m just tired and not as elastic as I used to be

:)

Thanks!

I’m really proud I managed it , especially high jump and steeplechase, my body proved once again it’s worth fighting for keeping it healthy:)

Today I’m still really sore , ankles and back and legs and shoulders... my nose seem to be the only part I didn’t hurt :)

But I managed a 4 mile jog and some stretching so ... I’m happy :)

Good for you πŸ‘. I think the gentle jog the following day helps to iron out the kinks πŸ™‚

That’s brilliant Marco! Well done! πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ». That steeplechase looks tough - not surprised you are feeling a bit sore today. Hope the recovery goes well πŸ‘

Thanks !! It was crazy ... 7 and half laps with 4 hurdles and 1 water jump in each of them... and the water was freezing!!!

I’m proud I got through it and did beat a 18/20 years old who competed so I am very proud of the competition as well :)

and in 2 weeks there is the second day... I will need to check what I will be able to do... probably I will be asked to cover anything that is technical again...

there will be no steeplechase, but there will be 110 and 400 hurdles and javelin... and long + high again...

for the moment I am just wobbling around, with sore back, ankles, and upper legs. but I managed a bit of a jog and stretching this morning, and hopefully I will be fine in a few days... I'll keep you posted :)
