A diagnosis finally

Apologies for the long post but here goes. The pain in my knee got so bad I checked into my local minor injuries unit and had an x-ray taken. No broken bones but I got a referral to a local sports physio. Been there today and after much pulling, pushing, stretching and pummeling I got the final verdict of patello-femoral knee syndrome. The guy who saw me first kinda knew what he was doing but got a second opinion from the senior physio who told me I had very tight IT bands. He put me in a very strange position gave me a warning and pushed into my thigh. When I stopped screaming and came back down from the ceiling it kinda felt better...... The long and short of it is I have no tendon or ligament damage and just have to keep up the excercises they gave me. Hopefully I'll be back running (slowly) in a month or so. I'm just glad I finally know what it is and now I can look forward.

Ouch! But once you know exactly what you're dealing with, you feel you can do something about it don't you. Hopefully you have lots of exercises now to improve the problem?

Sounds like in this case the mantra 'No pain no gain' may be right.

I'd love to know which exercises they recommended. I usually have a tighter it band on my right leg from driving and do extra rolling with a massage stick to combat it between massages.

At least you know what you're dealing with now and have positive things you can do yourself to improve the situation 👍 physio pain is all part of it... I think they do it on purpose! 🤣

At least you know the why behind this issue now Pete. Hope you have a good recovery as painless as possible under the circumstances

The excercises are tough but I suppose that's the whole point. Laying on my back one knee bent the other straight, lift my bum to the ceiling. Other back arches, then step downs. I sure hope this works..... I've got another appointment in a couple of weeks so I get to see my pain master physio again.
