Preparing for a hilly HM

I've just signed up for the Forest of Dean HM in September. I'm currently up to running 12k on the flat. My plan is to build up to around 20k on the flat (which should take me to the start of July) and then start introducing some hills. Does that seem reasonable?

I'm doing one (increasingly) long, slow run a week and two shorter ones with a variety of intervals and paces.

Sounds like a good plan. Why not make on of your shorter runs a hilly one to begin with as you build distance on the flat?

Thinking about it, your suggestion's snapped me out of a brain fog: Because I've been trying to start off on the flat, I've always walked down the hill near our house and walked back up afterwards but that would be a great place to start on some hill work. I'm sure my legs are going to love this!

I agree with Whatsapp, add some hills now! Is this half marathon local to you? It sounds fabulous, I'd be wanting to explore 😊😊😊

Have loads of fun with your training!!! xx

Hi ABI. It's about an hour's drive away so I'm thinking of heading up there closer to the date when I should be able to make the distance.

I'm starting to find that I can float through the long, slow runs but anything faster is still hard work.
