Yesterday I went on the most brutal run I’ve been on. It snowed , sleeted, there were a lot of hills, the traily bits were so muddy but it was fun nonetheless and I got my second 15 miler in the bag. However, within a few minutes of leaving my house I was saturated and then spent the next 3 hours or so squelching around 😂 Not sure you can do much about your feet and legs but I definitely need a jacket which is lightweight and actually waterproof. Any suggestions? I know I’ll probably have to shell out quite a bit but the Ronhill one was useless. Would like something that packs away into next to nothing, won’t make me overheat, is breathable and that is long enough to cover my bum as I’m tall. Oh and has anyone tried waterproof socks? Do they work?

Waterproof not waterproof 😂 Suggestions please.
I have a cycling top which is waterproof, and yet I don't seem to sweat-up in it, so I assume the vents allow it to breath. It also has a big flap over the bum, with a pocket in that I use for my beanie and gloves. My suggestion is thus: look at cycling gear in Aldi - which is where I got mine.
Sorry can't help with the top, as I know that my own one is only "water- resistant" so the water does work it's way through on a long run. Luckily, I am a fairly hot runner, so I have never been bothered by this. I have had waterproof socks and can recommend these Dexshell ones which I have had in the past. They certainly protected me during one cold and very wet winter of running when I was doing a lot of muddy, wet trails! However, the minute you get a small hole in them, then you lose that full protection, although they still keep your feet a lot drier and warmer.

Sealskinz are supposed to be good but I haven't tried them myself.
Good luck.🙂
If it helps, mine is a Salomon Bonatti jacket, bought in a sale last year. It seems to tick all the boxes - very light, waterproof, packs down to a tiny space. This is the one...
The waterproof ones are a requirement on extreme fell runs etc where if you got cold and wet it could spell disaster, where you might be on a mountain overnight etc
For the ultra I was planning it was a requirement, so being a peasant, the cost was going to be important Good news is that they’re not all massively expensive The thing to look for is ”taped seams”. Some on Decathlon and Sportsdirect 👍
sorry don't really have any answers.
I have a cheapy Karrimor that works for me. lots of pockets too
The main reason for my comment is to say WOWSERS well done 15 miles and your second one!! excellent achievement . I've been hovering around the C25K and bridge forums and seem to have missed a lot that's been happening on this side !
Thanks so much! I’ve found a Salomon for a great price now 👍🏽
Which one did you go for in the end? Has it lived up to expectations?
I tried a few and sent them back! Eventually I forked out for an OMM as they’re so lightweight and breathable. In the summer I’d rather get wet but when it’s cold I’ll use it much more. It scrunches up very small. I got a men’s as I like long arms and my bum covered.
Eek have just ordered one....🙄
🤣 you won’t regret it. Which one have you ordered?
Went for the ladies grey and purple one from Wiggle for £77.99 (!)
It’s just arrived and is lovely. Went for M as I’m 5’9 although a size 10 and the length is great - sleeves nicely long and back just about covers my bum. Looking forward to trying it out. It’s sooo lightweight! Thanks for the recommendation 😊
