I’m new to this group, I’ve managed to complete a few 10K’s and hope to consolidate this by running one a week with one 5K and one half an hour interval run in the gym.
I’m wondering how long I should do this before looking to train up to the half Marathon? Also is there a training plan out there that you would recommend, I really enjoyed the 5K and ju ju’s 10K plan so something along those lines would be good.
Thanks

Welcome to the group. I am pretty new on here as well so I am sure other more experienced runners will provide you with great advice. I have decided to follow a Nike Run Club HM training programme, I've just posted an update on my 1st 4 weeks. The plan is not quite as logical as C25K and ju-ju- 's Magic 10K plan (both of which I really enjoyed) but I'm assuming they know what they are doing.
There are plenty of plans out there. Prersonally I love devising my own. However, roseabi has provided a great plan here healthunlocked.com/marathon...
As for how long you should consolidate before starting HM training, I don't think there is a hard and fast rule and you will know best when you are ready.
Welcome to the group Tkaye! I cobbled my own HM plan together after looking at some on Runners World and roseabi's one on here. I started the plan a couple of months after reaching 10k but as Whatsapp said, see how you feel. Enjoy! 🤗🏃👍
Hello! Welcome to the forum, lovely to have you here!!!
I agree that you should see how you feel with your 10k runs. Take the time to try out some new routes - play around with different terrain (if available), include some hills if you haven't already. Have fun with it. As you gain confidence add a cheeky extra km or two 😊
My half marathon plan is still something of a work in progress, but the latest version can be found here:
It's a very gentle 16 week plan that includes two rest days between each "hard" run, cross training, strength training, and regular self checks to try and remain injury-free.
A small group of us have been trying out various versions of it since the last week of December, and we will be finishing at the end of March. At that time I will be summarising our findings and looking to develop a solid offering for this forum.
If you feel like having a look online for free training plans you will find plenty. I think that Hal Higdon's are pretty good basic plans meself 😊
Anyway, I look forward to hearing more from you. A half marathon is a wonderful project, and I hope you have a lot of fun with your training!
I’ll be really interested in your HM plan when you finalise it. I’ve a HM race in October so plan to start training properly May/June time (building in plenty of consolidation time). Good luck with your research and thank you 😊
Thanks for all of your helpful reply’s, I’ll continue to enjoy the 10K’s and look forward to starting training for the next challenge of half marathon.
